  2. A scrappy performance got the women's soccer team a come-from-behind draw yesterday. Still cleaning up down here from Milton, but still have power and internet and watched the match yesterday. First, Chad Welker continues to do a boffo job on the broadcasts. Second, the team got hosed a little at the end of the half when the referee decided to stop play with 6 seconds left so that Northern Illinois could retrieve a loose ball to play a corner, even though no one on the Zips kicked it away. That allowed NIU to score with 1 second left, although Mr. Welker questioned if the ball actually crossed the goal before the zeros showed on the clock. It tied the match, then NIU scored early in the second half on a mistake from our goaltender. Happens. But the Zips fought and fought and finally caught a break getting a deserved PK with 1 minute remaining and Katie Stafford slotted the tying goal. Lots of grit displayed, seems like the squad is missing a lot of their key players right now to injury? Keep up the effort, Go Zips!

  3. Zip football is maddening for anyone to watch, but it is heartbreaking for anyone who wants to see the Zips win. Under Joe I ask myself why do we find ways to lose? He is a knowledgeable, good coach. He has assembled quality talent vis-a-vis the rest of the MAC. He has a good staff. The culture seems to be getting better. Yet we find ways to wrestle defeat from the jaws of victory in unbelievable fashion. You may not agree we with, but I have come to believe it's all about discipline. Joe expects discipline from his players, but he does not demand it. All winning coaches demand commitment to discipline. They are almost maniacal about it. There is a right way to play and when things go haywire, if you stick to doing things right, that discipline will somehow carry the day. How can these unfathomable mistakes still keep arising on this team? I'll answer that by quoting a coach I respect who said when the same negative issues keep coming up "You are either tolerating them or coaching them. " It's time to start correcting them. There is no curse here. This team should be winning.

  4. Joe took over the second-worst offense in the country and after 3 years of hard work, dedication, long hours and millions in University funding, he transformed them into the fourth-worst offense in the country. Truly Magnificent

  6. It’s too big of time suck for me to go back and do all 5 years, but here are the 2021 stats (Arth’s 3rd year) vs the 2024 stats (Moorhead’s 3rd year). Arth Vs P4: Outscored 59.5 - 8.5 Yardage 617.5 - 208.5 Vs Non-P4: Outscored 35.5 - 22.1 Yardage 437.4 - 356.6 Moorhead Vs P4: Outscored 50.3 - 10 Yardage 489.3 - 212.6 Vs Non-P4 Outscored 27.7 - 21.2 Yardage 364 - 354 The caveats here are that the 2024 team played 3 Power games and the 2021 team played 2. Also, Arth did not finish out the final 3 games of 2021. And there’s always a chance the last 5 games of 2024 alter the 2024 stats. On the surface, there is little difference in the offensive numbers. Defensively is where there is a substantial difference. Edit - Might as well further this comparison: Arth: Wins: 3 One Score Wins: 0 One Score Losses: 3 Moorhead: Wins: 5 One Score Wins: 3 One Score Losses: 11

  7. No team is going to win by giving up 4 turnovers and creating none!

  8. It’s not the portal or roster turnover. Gathings moved on to UCONN and hasn’t had a single flag thrown on him this season. Miss. State’s QB missed the bowl game in 2019 due to a black eye. A teammate felt bold enough to punch the QB just days before the bowl game. Don’t get me wrong, fights happen at practice. It’s football. But players know which lines are acceptable to cross and which aren’t.

  14. As the son of 20+ year GK Jusssi Jääskeläinen, and younger brother of current GK Will Jääskeläinen, I imagine Emil has practiced a fair amount of PKs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jussi_Jääskeläinen
