  1. The zips have won 7 games in a row Akron has the leading goal scorer in the country. Emil has 16 goals. #2 in the country has 13 goals. https://www.ncaa.com/stats/soccer-men/d1 For my money, Mitch Budler has been the best GK in the Big East. He stood on his head repeatedly to help the zips get wins against Georgetown and Xavier. Beto Ydrach and Jonas Buechte , in my somewhat biased opinion, are the best CB duo in the Big East. Akron is playing as a team.....and is playing good soccer. The zips are ranked #18 by Top drawer soccer the zips are ranked #24 by the United Soccer coaches. https://unitedsoccercoaches.org/rankings/college-rankings/ncaa-di-men/ at the beginning of this week, the zips were #37 in RPI. Typically, only the top 40 or top 41 get into the NCAA if they don't win the conference. The zips must get wins at home on Wednesday night and on the road at Marquette. A loss to either would be absolutely devastating for RPI and would almost ensure that they would have to win the Big East Tournament in Boyds, MD. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpi This is an absolutely monster game for the zips. The weather is supposed to be perfect. 75 degrees during the day...62 degrees at 7 pm ...57 degrees at 9 pm I sure hope that the SID and the marketing department are posting signs all over campus....trying to get students to attend the game. The guardians season is over. I hope that the crowd on Wednesday night.....will be good. Sadly, I must ask......our attendance experts...... and @zippy-claws, and @fknbuflobo over or under 1,000 ???? go, Zips !!!

  2. One wednesday afternoon result was absolutely shocking to me Georgetown, 4-1-0 ...in the league played Villanova 0-5-0 the 2 teams played to a 3-3 tie this tie against a winless Big East team dropped Georgetown down to #10 in RPI UConn and St. Johns can both tie Georgetown at 4-1-1 if UConn and St. John's can get wins tonight Marquette played at DePaul this afternoon the 2 teams played to a 2-2 tie Marquette now has 8 points as a result of their 2-2-2 record DePaul is now 1-3-2 Go, Zips.....The zips can win the Midwest division with a win tonight in all honesty, they would also win the division with a tie.... as of 5:37 this afternoon, the zips are #32 in RPI The zips need to get the full 3 points tonight. Creighton is #48 in RPI...they are the highest ranked RPI team on Akron's remaining schedule. The zips must get a win tonight......to further improve their RPI.

  3. You make a really good point. You sound indifferent. I'm indifferent at this point. I don't blame you if you are. Like the WWE or not, Vince McMahon is a brilliant entertainer and promoter. I highly encourage everyone to watch the Netflix documentary on him. He talks a lot about "heat". When someone boos or cheers, that means the superstar is generating heat. The greater the heat, the more important to the WWE the character is. No heat? Better find a way to generate some or look for another career. The Zips football program hasn't generated heat for a while now. It does little to nothing to support the at athletes students alumni fans and general community around Akron. Why would anyone care? We are looking at something worse than a disgusted fan base. We are looking at an indifferent fan base. It's the worst place for the program to be. Crushing a season before it starts is not a good way to generate heat.

  4. I agree Texas has a territorial advantage. As do the states of Georgia and Florida. However, there is enough talent to recruit in Ohio and the surrounding states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. I know the staff mostly sticks to a 4 hour radius, but certain coaches on staff - like our OL coach - have personal connections to other states like Florida. Talent should never be the issue. It was under the previous staff, but now there is enough talent on this roster to win some games. Hopefully, that starts on Saturday.

  5. The players are obviously amateur, but the coach is just as obviously professional. Along with a salary comes expectation of results. That applies to any of us working anywhere. Without looking it up, I will shoot from the hip when stating that Simonetti’s MAC record over 3 years has been unacceptable, even atrocious. Had I been AD, I would have hired Jen Simonetti as head coach. She has many leadership's qualities. Great resume. But at some point she needs to justify UA’s investment in her. I fear her Day Of Reckoning is approaching. She needs to show something positive this year, or she may not be welcome to return.

  6. I'm agreeing with @fknbuflobo on this one. I'm saying 1,250-ish! I did get notices from Akron that there's a sale on GA tickets for the game. But student participation is a must! I never did hear any more about the rumored end of the AK Rowdies. Anyone know anything? How wonderful to have the hill full of students for this one. Please!!!

  8. If they played South Carolina, Ohio State and Rutgers to begin the season, and dealt with all the budget cut related issues we have I doubt they would have 6…5…or 4 wins. They are maybe 1/10 of a notch better than Akron, but with a table much better set for success.

  9. Tonight Sam Houston State beat FIU to get to 6-2 on the season. This is just their second year in FBS and are already going to a bowl game. Last year they went 3-9. I know it is tough for Akron to build up a program, but I mean look at a team like SHSU. Even in todays state of college football it is possible to improve greatly over a short time, why not us?

  12. When Guthrie scheduled Ohio State ensuring that we'd start the season at best 1-3 I had zero excitement about this year's football season, an emotional void regarding Zips football I hadn't experienced since before Lee Owens was hired as coach. Not good.

  13. Or Curt Cignetti at Indiana. He started at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Elon before getting a larger job at James Madison.

  14. Lets have a real conversation for a minute... With ZERO wins against teams ranked higher than 296 in the RPI, 0 conference wins (2 ties and little hope of winning last three), is it about time for a conversation about the coach? She has "her recruiting classes" now, maybe(?) some quality transfers, and yet another Akron program poised for a sub .333 win % total, and maybe a .100 win percentage against conference opponents. Outside of N. Illinois (RPI 117), the ties are pretty underwhelming, against RMU (284), Eastern IL (307). And just as an FYI: Win % by year Not looking much better than her predecessor in terms of overall performance and over same time period. If the University of Akron cares about women's soccer, and recruiting better players, maybe it's time to make a change...
