Any losses by teams above the Zips to teams with high rpi could bump them into the thirties and could muddy up those last 5-8 at large bids. I’m not an expert in this but my best guess is anyone above the Zips can just stay there and no one moves up.3 points

Here is an article about how the Pacers have had to rely on 2 way players this season because of injuries and how these players have stepped up. Includes a quote from Freeman. Good stuff!! https://www.forbes.com/sites/tonyeast/2024/11/13/indiana-pacers-surviving-while-relying-on-new-two-way-contract-players/3 points

No doubt. Just get in and go to work. And I’m with you, it’s likely the Pitt or Ohio State second round.1 point

At least some of us thought that the defense might have been the strength of the team this season. There are some individually good players no doubt. But as a unit this group of players and coaches has shown little ability to help control a game enough to help the team win. They have been pretty much getting gouged by the run and big plays all season. NIU did exactly what it wanted to do. That was to be rugged and beat up the Akron defense on the ground. We are way past trying to figure out why the offense does what it does. Three seasons in, this is not where the program should be.1 point

Bobcats got their clocks cleaned again at Memphis.... this league is a mess. Ohio, Kent, Akron have all been dusted by 20-points by quality competition. Toledo looks decent, but haven't played a P5 yet. We'll see.1 point

I can't answer your question.....but one site had interesting info .....on 2 brothers being all americans Louis immigrated with his family from North Macedonia, then Yugoslavia, when he was thirteen years old. His family settled in Akron, Ohio, where he attended Central-Hower High School. After high school, he attended the University of Akron where he played as a forward on the men's soccer team from 1974 to 1977. He and his brother George were top players with the Zips. Both Louie and George earned first team All American honors in 1976. This was the first time in NCAA history that two brothers received first team recognition the same year. Louie then garnered second team honors in 1977.1 point

Well, I hope everyone enjoyed our weekend of happiness and welcome back to the reality of being a Zip fan. On Tuesday, Zips basketball took a beating on the boards and in the paint and showed as much toughness as your daughter's favorite Teddy bear. On Wednesday our football team lost and went scoreless in the 2nd half and now are 2 and 8. And then our soccer team took it on the chin on Thursday losing in overtime and now Zips fans will worry the whole weekend whether our record is good enough to get an at large bid in the tourney. Remember our motto, if being a Zips fan was easy, everyone would be one.1 point

I never met Gerry in person. Only attended one of his games, when Terry Forbes' McKinley team whooped Moeller in the snow at the Rubber Bowl for the OHSAA title. However I know what a truly fine man he was. I attended the Notre Dame game versus Hawai'i at Aloha Stadium in the early '90s. Several Notre Dame fans saw my AKRON ZIPS cap and came up to tell me we were fortunate to have a great guy and leader of men as our football coach! But an even more personal story occurred around that same time just around 1990 or '91. I used to call a service that you would call on your land-line phone and listen to college basketball and football games -- it was HQ'ed in Akron. Well after a while I got the idea it would be cheaper to call Akron's radio station myself (WHLO then) and listen to the games. I called and they would put me on hold so I could hear the broadcast. About the third time I called the receptionist asked for my phone number. I thought she meant in case I was cut off she could call back. But about a week later I got a call about 5:00 Hawai'i time (10 or 11 in the evening in Ohio. After answering, the voice on the other end said "Hello, this is coach Gerry Faust. I hear you've been calling the station to hear our games! I just wanted to thank you for being such a great fan". I almost peed my pants! Again, late at night a college football coach makes a cold call to a stranger to just say thanks. That's the kind of guy Gerry Faust was!1 point

Gerry was not a great college head coach. He was a great guy in general. He was 43–53–3 at Akron. Sadly, that's pretty good in comparison to recent Akron football.1 point
