Between the portal stuff and seeing schools have a $20M "NIL" fund, I wonder how many years it will be before people start just not caring about college football. I'm starting to get there.

From what I understand the Zips are going to 105 scholarships and splitting into a Blue and a Gold team. The intent is to double the revenue from P4 OOC games and pay off the stadium debt. Week #1 is - Akron Gold vs. Penn State ($1.9 million) Akron Blue vs. Florida ($1.78 million) Week 2 is a west coast trip. USC and Oregon are the rumored opponents. $4.1 million in total revenue. More details to follow. Dr. J is also in negotiations with Kent to loan players in the event too many Zips get injured in the first couple weeks. Lots of outside the box thinking going on from the interim AD.

WR commit. Might turn out to be a sneaky pickup, despite being lightly recruited. Good size, hands, and top end speed.

Garrison Smith is a huge loss, was a nice to have a real kicker for a change. Hopefully they can find another guy like him

I can't say I'm excited, but Northern Kentucky is a good mid-major program and worth a 25 minute Tuesday night drive down Route 8. Their record this year isn't so great, but you never know what you're gonna get when you schedule a year or two in advance. Few mid-majors are like the Zips, and a guaranteed winner year-in-year-out. If it were Otterbein I'd stay home.

Every fanbase thinks the world is ending and this hurts their team more than anyone else. It's just a new reality that everyone has to deal with and whoever can learn how to take advantage of it before the others will succeed. Part of this working at a MAC school is bringing those recruits back that you recruited out of high school and went elsewhere, and you have the connections and foundation to bring them back on the second try. A big part of why high school recruiting will still be important

Not excited to see Moore, James, Kellom or Smith in the Portal, however I'm not surprised at all. I'm still hoping we can somehow keep Norton and McCoy, but I'm worried about them. I guess the way I look at the current state of college football is that it's just a constant revolving door. Any good or great players from G5 will enter thinking they are better than where they are currently and the P4/5 players not getting the playing time they think they deserve will enter hoping for more playing time, respect, whatever from another P4/5 or a G5.

Because you replace them with someone else just as good after 1-2 years. It's just a big re shuffling

I could support that. My objection to the A (and like of the Z) is uniqueness. I just was scrolling across on ESPN+ to see if the Zips were available tomorrow and ran across Army and App State that at a quick glance could have been Akron. Just doesn't stand out. But the tire tread A? Would the Rubberducks sell? 😉

It appears we have lost Kellogg, Golden, Rush, Smith and Moore to the portal. Losing the first three is not a big loss in my opinion. They all had limitations, even for the MAC. But I hate to see Smith and Moore go. Smith was the reliable, consistent kicker we have lacked for years. Moore was on his way to All-MAC. I realize he will find a better program and probably get some NIL money. That is the nature of college football today. We took a chance on him and his bad grades, but he played so well other schools will now take him and make sure he gets the necessary grades, one way or the other. Our DL is a rebuild at all four slots. If this is the end of the transfers we lucked out. I'm not holding my breath that we are done.

Finally showed up. And it was $35 not $55. I think they did a pretty good job on it.

And no they don't, there is nothing unique about those.
