Costco in North Canton has some Zips gear on sale. I picked up a hoodie and quarter zip today for ~$28/each.

I know that when I saw the Zips schedule, I immediately said that the game at St. Louis would be the toughest non conference game on the schedule. After looking at the box score tonight for #20 Cornell hosting #21 Cal Santa Barbara, I am now convinced that Cornell will be the toughest game on the non conference schedule. Cornell started the seaon on August 29 with a 3-0 win over Marist. Tonight, Cornell hosted Cal Santa Barbara. Cal Santa Barbara has their best team in many, many years. Cal Santa Barbara(UCSB) has not had the best luck in getting wins....but the statistics say that they have been dominant against Excellent teams. UCSB played historic top 10 team Marshall. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. UCSB dominated the stats. SB led 25-9 in shots ; 7-5 in SOG and 10-3 in corner kicks. In their next big match, UCSB played #2 ranked San Diego. Again, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. However, again, the Gauchos led 21-11 in shots and 5-2 in SOG. San Diego did lead 4-2 in corner kicks. San Diego's only goal came on a PK so it appears that UCSB dominated the run of the play. Well, what happened tonight ...when the Gauchos traveled to Cornell? Cornell won 2-1 . The statistics are unbelievably dominant for Cornell(especially considering UCSB's prior ranked matchups) Cornell led 20-4 in shots Cornell led 6-2 in SOG last but not least...Cornell led 12-0 in corner kicks Zips fans need to rush to First Energy Stadium on Tuesday night. They are going to see great soccer on Tuesday night.

I haven't been overly critical of him. If Akron fires him, he'll get a much higher paying job elsewhere. I think he's doing the best he can considering the circumstances.

I feel it's a bit overstated how competitive the MAC is in these games. Looking at week 1 only Toledo and UMass played a competitive 4 quarters against P4. Kent is down 43 points. Miami is down 31 points. Ball State is down 46 points. Ohio is down 21 points. Buffalo needed a goal line stand to beat an FCS teams. BG lost to Tarleton State.

Player Participation/Depth Chart & PFF now added to original post. I went back and rewatched the first three quarters. When I saw PFF had Nunoo rated so highly, I thought it must be wrong. It wasn’t. Some of the plays I thought Johnson made were actually made by Nunoo. I retract that Curtis should be starting. Although, I do think Curtis should be the third man in the rotation at this time, the starters should definitely be Nunoo and Johnson based off this game. Our secondary tackled well outside of the one busted tackle that led to the long touchdown. I couldn’t tell if that tackle was missed by Moss or Davis. There were a few bad angles taken after catches, though. Coverage was actually pretty solid. It’s just unrealistic to expect coverage to be great when the QB has that much time to throw the ball. On offense, it looked to me like we did not identify several of Wake’s blitzes. There really weren’t a ton of times where we flat out got beat one-on-one in pass protection. However, as mentioned before, we didn’t get much push in the run game either. I was really impressed with RG Hampton. He’s one I doubt we’ll be able to keep around too long. On the other hand, redshirt freshman Gould struggled at LT. One other note is that TE Alexander made some nice blocks on the perimeter.

I feel OK with last night. -Aside from the Indiana game we blew, this has to be the most points we’ve scored against and only time we beat the spread against a P4 program under this staff. -We would seem to have multiple competent options at QB..who are only going to get better with more experience. CB is a great running threat, seems to be able to throw the ball accurately, and make smart decisions. Roggow was obviously great in his limited time. Poffenbarger who? - I don’t know where everyone stands from an injury standpoint, but I think it’s encouraging that a lot of young/new players seem to be getting snaps over players who have played in the past. To me that means we should be better and the staff does a good job developing the players who stay long enough to be developed. - Freshman (either true or redshirt) that I saw receiving significant playing time last night: CB, Luke Sivon, Tairan Davis, Daunte Curtis, Nate Hampton, Jonathan Gould, Vann Kavals. None stuck out to me as not holding their own. -Aside from CB taking himself out (hopefully nothing serious there), only other injuries I saw were cramps. Still seem healthy. - my biggest general concern is the defense after last night. DL didn’t get any pressure, but Durham was out and I think we know we have solid guys there. JoeMo raved about the DL in the pregame show. LB rotation should sort itself out pretty quickly. Both Donelius Johnson and Daunte Curtis look like they can be good players in that group. For the DBs, we know Catrell White, Flowers, the Branches, and Terence Thomas can perform in the MAC. -I didn’t see Omari Bivens get any playing time.

I’m not going to do as in-depth of a take on this game, though will touch on a handful of things. Offense: CB is a playmaker and will only get better with game experience. His mobility is going to be invaluable to this offense. Also, Roggow looked confident and in command with the backups, which is something every team wants to see out of their backup quarterback, but often isn’t the case. What was even more impressive is that Roggow moved the offense with all backups in around him. I really like what we have at the skill positions and look forward to when the OL starts to gel. Speaking of the OL, they were overwhelmed in the first half against Wake’s ones. Once the twos came in, our OL more than held their own. I think we have some guys in place to have another solid OL, but it’s probably going to take a few games to figure it out. Defense: I’m already on the JD Williams bandwagon. He looked like he belonged and was a load in the middle. However, I didn’t like that he seemed to get gassed so quickly. Omari Obor looked explosive against the backups and also when he was left unblocked against the ones. He’ll need to continue to develop as a pass rusher, but he’s going to be difficult for MAC opponents to deal with. Waye and Kavals also had their moments. Outside of those guys, our pass rush and effectiveness against the run was almost nonexistent. I liked what I saw out of Daunte Curtis and Donelius Johnson at linebacker. I believe they should be receiving most of the snaps from here on out. It’s hard to say much about the secondary. They at least tried to play physically, but they were put in bad spots way too often. Besides all of the penalties, I think Wake is a solid team that should at least make a bowl game. The Zips came out, fought to the end, and came away with some positives to build on. It so frustrating to see so many MAC teams really compete against these P4 teams every year and we get absolutely destroyed in every game. Throw out the Indiana game and every other game has been a complete embarrassment.

It will be a mid-November Wednesday Maction game in Amherst, maybe with someone's bowl hopes on the line.

I don't think Gruden has both oars in the water these days.

One last note on the Gruden diatribe - he mentioned Ara Parseghian as a Zip?! He was born in Akron, and enrolled at Akron, but didn’t attend classes…he instead enlisted in the Army (WWll). Dwight Smith wins him a Super Bowl and he pimps Ara Parseghian?

Apparently, not all Virginia Tech transfer QBs are made equal. 19 of 22 for 197 yards and 3 TDs with no interceptions along with 6 carries for 40 yards - VERY impressive.

Looks like the team is wearing hoodies that say something about "creating our own luck". I hope they send one to Tod.
