  1. Could the Reakin have thrown up a bigger softball? The jokes relating to Can't just write themselves! Anyone notice the creative angle of the photos showing the stadium sign? Even better is the one showing the Sean Hannity sign...wonder what he thinks of the target audience of this shop and scholarships?
  2. 166 players? Also, is that really Lee Owens in that photo? Looks a little "big".
  3. It looks real nice. Not sure what the random black seats are for. Do they spell something? Kinda looks like all the repair jobs at the Rubber Bowl!Sure hope they can fill that place. According to the NCAA site they averaged around 2700 fans this year, up from 1500 the year before. Other than Memphis, they don't have too many attractive in league visitors or natural rivals. Let's face it, the average fan doesn't know anybody outside the ones you see on TV. Did anyone notice the "other" 3 pt. line? Assuming that is the new one for next year.
  4. Have they ever mentioned UA?
  5. Thanks to the guy that gave us our props. Using some of their logic, FSU would finish in 4th in the MAC b'ball and the MAC is better than the ACC in football since Duke is terrible. Also, Northwestern and Rutgers are basketball forces since they are in a big conference.
  6. Did anyone look at the brackets? They might as well have put the Suckeyes straight to NYC. What a joke their bracket is. 1 team that was a potential NCAA team (Dayton). I don't see a single team that we couldn't beat. The bracket they then meet is pretty average as well (VCU has a good chance of making some noise). Then take a look at our bracktet...Syracuse, Maryland, Minnesota, UMass, FSU. Even the bracket we would meet has ASU, S. Ill, Creighton and Florida in it.For some reason the national media still thinks that Oden and Co. are still there. Look how much talk they got about the NCAA when probably 10 teams had better resumes.
  7. Did I read the Beacon article right? Did UA offer the holdouts over $1 million for their business and they turned it down? I wouldn't think the whole block is worth that, let alone a couple of small businesses. They better hope some arbitrator doesn't give them what it is really worth and they lose hundreds of thousands of dollars. From what I have read, UA has way overpaid so far.
  8. This is a take it for "what it is worth" post. For all the talk about how weak of a schedule we had, it really wasn't too bad. Having said that, we definetly need to step it up in terms of scheduling. One or two games against high profile schools wouldn't hurt. Anyway...UA - ended up with 4 NCAA teams and 2 NIT teams on its out of conference schedule. 2-4 record.OU - 5 NCAA and 1 NIT. 3-3 record.MU - 6 NCAA and 3 NIT. 3-6 record. Can't - 5 NCAA and 2 NIT. 5-2 record.Obviously, we needed a better record against those teams, which shows in Can't more than likely getting an at large bid no matter what.
  9. Speaking of the banners in the JAR...has anyone else noticed that the one shows "MAC Champions" with two years? Shouldn't it read MAC East Division Champions? In answer to this post...NCAA all the way. I went to Minneapolis back in '86 and it was a blast. After we nearly beat Michigan I had non Akron person wanting to buy my OVC Champs shirt that I was wearing! The recognition doesn't compare between the two (or three now).Do we have a realistic chance of NIT or CBI bid? Does the selection commitee do a make up call for the heat they took last year?
  10. There is a small article in the Beacon today about the Mr. Ohio in boys basketball and Anthony Hitchens is mentioned without reference to the Zips. Of course they point out the 2 going to OSU and the 1 going to UC. Life as a "mid major"!
  11. In regards to CSU, I remember a time when all the NE Ohio schools had good programs and coaches. I hope I'm not mixing timeframes, but if I remebmer right at one point UA (Huggins), CSU (Mackey), Can't State (McDonald), and YSU (Rice?) all had good teams in their respective conferences, which ultimately led to some great games between each other. I for one would like to see it get back to that. Heck, how about a set of games in December at the Q - UA vs CSU, Can't vs YSU.
  12. I know it doesn't mean a thing, but the Zips got a mention at the half of the CAA championship game. They were discussing VCU's at large chances and were talking about their lack of a marquee win. Doug Gottlieb did however say they had a nice win at Akron. Even though we were mentioned in a losing manner, it was nice to hear that at least someone knows who we are, especially since VCU did beat Maryland and Houston.
  13. Must have been something with my browser at work. It cut off the ACC and Mac from the end. Worked just fine at home. ??? Voted for Zippy! Thanks
  14. How does one vote for Zippy. When I click on the link it only brings up the BCS schools and for some reason Conference USA.
  15. Come on now, I am sure Treeoman was on here last year saying we were the better team after dispatching them at the Q! I'm also sure there was no "whining" when OU beat them this year. I'm sure there was nothing but hippie love flowing for the refs in that game.
  16. "HAHAHA You guys can't spell throw? WOW what kind of education are you getting?I was little disappointed I thought you guys were Rowdys, you were quiet and KentFans was louder."Going by your post, the same education that Can't is giving out! In case you can't read, it should be:"I was a little disappointed. I thought you guys were Rowdys. You were quiet and the Can't fans were louder.
  17. I wouldn't call the posts about the officiating whining, I would call it the reality of how bad of officials the MAC is stuck with. They are continually bad and inconsistent. Don't you think that Christian is upset the way they let Can't play D in the first half and then whistled them left and right in the 2nd? That kind of officiating makes it rough on both teams to adjust and get into any type of flow. I was sitting 4 rows from the floor and saw two perfect example of how bad the MAC officials are: 1) Dials goes in for a layup and is swatted across both forearms and the ball goes out of bounds. Clear foul, yet the official rules it out of bounds to UA. If it wasn't a foul then it was out off of Dials and it should have been Cant's ball. 2 for 1 special on bad calls! 2) Dials fouls one of the Can't players under the hoop - the official near half court makes the call despite his view being blocked by several bodies, yet the official 2 feet away from the play eats his whistle.
  18. Sorry for the second post. Complete schedule (less times):2008 FirstEnergy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament ScheduleWednesday, March 12 No. 8 Seed vs. No. 9 Seed, TBA No. 5 Seed vs. No. 12 Seed, TBA No. 7 Seed vs. No. 10 Seed, TBA No. 6 Seed vs. No. 11, TBA Thursday, March 13 No. 2 Western Michigan vs. No. 7/10 Winner, TBA No. 3 Akron vs. No. 6/11 Winner, TBA No. 1 Can't State vs. No. 8/9 Winner, TBA No. 4 Seed vs. No. 5/12 Winner, TBA Friday, March 14 No. 1/8/9 Winner vs. No. 4/5/12 Winner, TBA No. 2/7/10 Winner vs. No. 3/6/11 Winner, TBA Saturday, March 15 Championship Game, 7 p.m. (ESPN2)
  19. That was a cut and paste from the MAC website
  20. According to the MAC website the schedule is:Thursday, March 13 No. 2 Western Michigan vs. No. 7/10 Winner, TBA Livestats Recap Box Quotes/Notes No. 3 Akron vs. No. 6/11 Winner, TBA Livestats Recap Box Quotes/Notes No. 1 Can't State vs. No. 8/9 Winner, TBA Livestats Recap Box Quotes/Notes No. 4 Seed vs. No. 5/12 Winner, TBA Livestats Recap Box Quotes/No Going by this, we have the 2nd afternoon game. This would sense as it would give the #1 seed the "primetime" game on Thursday night.
  21. Maybe I didn't dig deep enough, but I didn't find any love for the Zips. In the "The state of the other 22" rankings part he didn't even have the Zips listed in his poll, but did have both Miami and Ohio in it. I guess despite beating both of them twice this year isn't enough.
  22. The Suckeyes are living proof that it is who you play not that you beat them. They benefit from being in the same conference as tourney teams such as Indiana & MSU. They are currently 49th in RPI and considered a bubble team, yet their "signature" wins are against a 31 & a 60, with the 31 being in league. They are 1-9 against top 50 teams yet are still on the bubble. Who do you think they will take: Can't with a higher RPI or OSU who was in the championship game last year? hmmm let me think... Do you honestly think the selection committee is going to let both FL and OSU sit, despite neither of them deserving to be in?
  23. I didn't want to take a chance, so I bought my kid a ticket. I think the post about "if available" is what I remember on the kids club.
  24. I'm as big a homer as anyone, and while it is great to read this, reality is Can't is still in a better position than us. They still lead the division and league, have a better overall record (and rpi, sos), and have the only "at large" chance of any MAC team (albeit slim). I think this article gives the impression we are suddenly in the driver's seat and Can't is done. It did however leave out one small detail:
  25. Ummm...what the he** is a facebook anyways?
