I guess my question fits here... What connection to UA does Dan Patrick have? Today they were jokingly discussing LeBron's house in Akron, when his sidekick made a comment about "your Zips" using it as a practice place or stadium.
-
Did you catch Bosh's Freudian slip when talking about the 3 of them playing toghether? Said waiting "days and months", then corrected himself by saying "not days and months". Sounding more and more like this was planned all the way, and LeBron took Cleveland, NY, Chicago, and LA for a B.S. ego ride. Man have I lost a great deal of respect for what seemed like a guy with his head on straight. Guess all of NE Ohio might have been suckered.

Kind of odd too how the Heat just happened to purge their roster while taking on NOTHING in return... What happened to the rule where you had to do dollar for dollar, or at least a percentage? Top 5 picks traded for lousy future 2nd round picks, just to dump salary??? How come the Cavs never could move guys this way? I think it was George Karl that brought up that something wasn't right about all this.

...and 2 of those 3 barely played in the second half, despite having good 1st halves. They didn't know what to do against us when Zeke was on the floor. He makes guys adjust there shot just be being in there. The one thing I hate about Dambrot is his rotations. He seems to worry too much about the other team's strengths as opposed to using his own. Instead of burying Can't with Zeke and Nik down low, he went to his "mini me" lineup with 3 guards with two being sub 6 foot. Can't simply countered with bigger guards. Nothing like a 5'8" guy guarding a 6' 5" shooter!

Elton's stumping for UA/Can't State/CSU/YSU
zipdiehard replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
My buddy and I (Can't fan) have always thought it would be cool to do a NE Ohio weekend at the Q. It could be an all day thing or over two days. Something like: Akron vs Cincinnati, Can't vs Xavier, YSU vs Dayton, and CSU vs OSU. You could have any number of other opponents for the 4 schools in this area to play (Pitt, WV, Penn State, etc). I would think something like this would draw pretty well. You might even get the fair weather OSU fans who don't know any teams outside the little11 to come. -
Just got back from the game. I think most have summed it up...poor free throw shooting and ridiculous shooting by a few UB players were the game. They had no inside game, yet we let them shoot at will from the outside. Speaking of inside game, Keith needs to quit having such a short leash on Zeke...gvie the kid a chance to get into the flow. The officiiating was bad, more so to the Zips, but bad all around. Clean blocks called as fouls, iffy travel calls while obvious ones were missed, guys barreling head down into the lane and getting the block call, etc... Also, Keith's T was deserved. From what I could see, he did it on purpose. While he was calmly discussing it, he kept on and on with it. Even Jimmy was trying to get him to stop. I think Keith was hoping it would kick start the team.On a side not: I really liked their arena. While it is a bit "industrial" in looks, it has some nice features. I especially liked most of the foot traffic being in the upper surround. It was quite nice watching a game without the constant parade in front of you. Gawd do we need to blow up the JAR. One curious thing though: both in the concourse and in the arena they had banners proclaiming UB as 2009 MAC regular season champs. ???? Wasn't BG the East champ and overall number one seed for the tourney? Does the MAC declare one regular season champ with two divisions?

Sorry for the second post...answered my own question. Akron fans are in section 112. According to the guy at the UB ticket office, they have plenty of seats left. Walk up will be no problem, just let them know you need the Akron section. Those tickets are $18 per the website.

Anyone know where the Akron section is? Going to get tickets sometime today for my son and I.

Belated Birthday wishes. I can't wait until I get the chance to see him in action. Seems like we have something going every game. Hopefully Friday (don't forget your bears).Hey Rowdies, how about this for a sign (forgive me Austin Carr): GET THAT ZEKE STUFF OUTTA HERE -
We were just at the Foot Locker @ Belden and they have new LeBron's with the Zips emblem. While they aren't those limited edition ones, they are pretty cool. They also had models with SVSM and OSwho. They will set you back a cool 120.00.Merry Christmas to all of Zipsnation

why was The Info Opener Not Televised
zipdiehard replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
not to hijack the thread, but I wonder how accurate the 27,000 number was, or what it actually represents. they couldn't get my kids wristbands to scan, nor one of our other tickets. the guy commented to me that they were having problems with the kid ticket wristbands all day.if I had to guess on why no TV: we can't get people to come normally, why give them an "out" to sit at home. true Zips fans wouldn't have missed the game for any reason. -
Well we got our tickets today...for some reason they sent 3 adult tickets and 2 kids wristbands. Must be some reverse nuclear family They said it would be no problem with one of my kids using the adult ticket.

We are there as well. I believe it is the first lot across Exchange, down Brown St. I apologize for no link, but one map I saw showed it there.

Let's hope mine gets resolved like some others...ordered family four pack in June, decdied to add one more ticket for my 7 year old. The girl I spoke with said no problem, they would just put the other ticket on our Visa. A few weeks later got a call from a guy telling where our five seats were, and that they would be mailed in August. Well our parking pass showed up a week or so ago, but no tickets. I finally called on Friday only to find out they hadn't mailed any of our tickets because "we" hadn't paid for the fifth ticket (see above). No explanation why they didn't send the four, so I can only assume they wouldn't have shown unless I called. Anyway, I gave them the visa number once again, so hopefully they show up in the next few days. Also, they never said anything in regards to them being general admission, just 2 adult tickets and 3 kids tickets. While I thougth they may send GA tickets, I assumed it would be similar to soccer w/ different prices. For a couple of reasons it makes sense that they wouldn't send just general admission tickets: 1) its a "family" section. they want to get families out there and provide them a cheaper alternative, and an area to be around other families. We have all sat around those fans that sit there the whole time being rude and obnoxious. Not exactly a family atmosphere. 2) if they were going to send general admission ticks for anyone to use, they would have just offered a similar season ticket package.See you all on Saturday! hopefully...

wasn't Central Florida the school that came into the lowly MAC to dominate in football?
-
I believe it is all in the perception. Recruits don't normally commit to "smaller" schools as they are waiting to see what bigger schools are doing. UA getting commits early like the "big boys" can give off the vibe that it might be a place to check out. You can't tell me that recruits don't scan the recruiting sites and take notice of what schools are on other recruits lists. I highly doubt the coaches believe these kids are bench players. More than likely they are kids with huge upside that the big schools won't take notice of until the start having a big senior year.

What a bummer. I have gone on several road trips with her, and have seen/talked to her at countless games over the past 25 years. What a fantastic lady. We are all dwarfed by her as Zips fans.

I was a few years out of high school. My parents and I rode the UA sponsered bus up there. Something like a 14 hour bus ride. Great bunch of people on the bus. If I remeber correctly, Barb who just got put in the UA hall of fame was on their with us. We were interviewed by the Beacon and appeared in an article about the fans going up there. I actually have a scrapbook of the OVC tourney and the NCAA. Great pictures of a young and thin Bob Huggins! I also have a VHS tape of the game. The atmosphere at the game was great, even though watching basketball in that huge of an arena was weird. The Michigan fans were very respectful, and one of them even tried to buy my "OVC Champs" shirt. The prior game saw Jeff Hornacek hit a big shot to lead Iowa St over the Ron Harper Miami team. My biggest disappointment the whole weekend (next to the loss) was getting asked by one of the team members to go to the night session games with the team, but not being able to go. John Loyer was in one of my classes at the U. It was all an experience I will never forget. Unfortunately I can't share that experience with my sons this year, but am expecting to in the years to come as this team makes annual trips to the tourney.

OU Game - thoughts and predictions
zipdiehard replied to zipdiehard's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
60-51 Zips! Vegas nailed the line once again. More proof to stay away from betting. Can someone that was there give us a synopsis? ThanksON TO CAN'T! -
Unfortunately I can't make it tonight due to my son's basketball practice. I expect the Rowdies to be out in full force, especially with it being Nate's last home game. This is a winnable game for the Zips. OU has some of the same issues we do, mainly some youth and inconsistent play throughout the year. I was surprised to see the line as high as it was (Zips by 9).Zips 62OU 57

I heard that as well. They later said one of the teams (men golf?) was ranked in the country "academically". I wonder if they meant that?

We were just talking about this topic at work...while Ben has definetly started his way to the HOF, being the QB on two Super Bowl teams isn't a guarantee...just ask Jim Plunkett.
