Once a Can't State Thug ALWAYS a Can't State Thug
zipdiehard replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
GP1, you remind me of Kenny Rhoda or Peter Brown: make ridiculous statements just to get people riled up. I pray that your racist remark is just that and not probably the stupidest comment ever made on this board. -
Can't State on ESPN.com's Top Stories
zipdiehard replied to Bleacher Bum's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
While not defending what they are doing over there in any fashion, Ford's previous quoted comment needs to be in context:"I don't care what people say. They're going to have their opinions, but I know what kind of mindset Tyree is in. I didn't know him five years ago, but I know today he's as quality a kid as we have in our program." Whether the "today" Evans holds out is the question... -
I don't know if there is a shred of truth to this but I just stopped at Ritzman's and the lady told me they had no more tickets/vouchers. She said they were told the game was completly sold out. Anyone else hearing this?I kind of chuckled when she said "there are a lot of Akron fans going to the game". I of course said "where have they been for the last 20 years?"

We always hear how Keith really goes after good kids from good families. This couldn't have been more evident Friday night at the Meet the Team function. My family and I were very impressed with how cordial and friendly all the "kids" were. They all were great at making the fans feel comfortable and "part of the team". The same can be said for Keith and his staff. We should feel fortunate that our basketball program is in good hands, and is headed in the right direction. I want to give a special shout out to Mike Bardo who seems to be an incredible person. We have met him twice in the last few weeks and he has gone out of his way to be friendly towards us. He even took my eleven year olds "challenge" to box him in the inflatable boxing ring! For those that weren't there, Mike also boxed Keith.Things like this only add to the goods things we see and here from the team families such as the McKnights and a soon to be Zip (15 days)! It is quite refreshing to see this happening at the U, when are "friends" to the East go on the recent path of recruiting convicts.

Who won the Michigan game?
zipdiehard replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I must have missed the announcement that you were a "zipdiehard".Either way, I have read my own post considering I typed it. Yes he came back later, after he flopped and faked an injury. That is definitely grounds for booing. Maybe you and your son should join in on the booing and stop being such sticklers for good times.Sorry about that. My response wasn't to your post. Anyway, if you read my first post my point was how bad it appeared that a guy was booing an injured player. As I previously stated, I wasn't alone in thinking this, as some of the Rowdies around him were looking at him like "Is he really booing". Once again, it is all about appearances. I don't know if you look at them, but most MAC fansites bash us as the most obnoxious fans in the MAC. I personally think that is a joke, especially with the current crop of Rowdies we have. In the 25+ years I have been attending Zip's sports, this is by far the best student support I have seen. Booing for bad officiating or a player gesturing the crowd is justified, booing for an injury is not no matter how its spun. I think that your previous response about him booing something else was probably the case, but it didn't come off that way at that exact moment. There are plenty of threads on here where we bash other teams and their fans (see BG & BSU threads). Had this happened the other way around there would be a thread on here about what jerks the Michigan fans were. Someone more savvy with this website than I am can probably pull a previous one out.Well i guess i misunderstood what you were trying to say. Sorry about that, i agree though we are thought of as obnoxious fans. But in a way i take pride in that, it's way more fun to be hated then loved. Though i completely agree, it is not alright to cheer/heckle/boo an injured player. Luckily in this case, that was not happening and thank goodness the injured player was boo'd only because he was faking and nothing else. That was my mistake. I seem to always forget to add the previous post!I can see your point in taking pride in having other fans dislike the Zip fans. Like I said this current crop of Rowdies is great. I particularly like the one that is relentless with the other team (ex: following "Winston" up and down the field calling his name). Good thing he is a big guy! -

The fact that the booing was coming out of one of our fans during an injury is exactly what gives all fans a bad name. Unfortunately people only really remember the bad. Whether or not you thought he was faking is irrelevant and doesn't make it any less unsportsmanlike. If the guy would have really been injured would you still feel the booing was justified? Soccer games are full of Varejos and Divacs, so going by these thoughts we should be booing every time ANY player goes down writhing in pain only to pop right back up. The Zips did it themselves three or four times last night. If the guy was responding to a Michigan player, so be it, but the timing of it still looked bad. -

"If you think we drove the goalie crazy, then you should have seen his mom who was at the game. She was convinced that everything we did (horns, the drum section, shouting, standing behind him) was illegal."I wonder if that was the same older lady and gentlemen I was behind at the concession stand. She was complaining to him about our fans "taunting" their players. I almost said "I am sure Michigan fans are all just little angels". I sure that when Columbus Tech is in town they are just as cordial as can be to them. I guess love is blind. It's like when I use to work with a die hard Steelers fan that truly believed that Browns fans were the worst and that Steelers fans never cussed or treated visiting fans badly! My son and I always enjoy the Rowdies, but I do have to say the one guy was way out of line by loudly booing the Michigan guy they hauled off the field. I do have to give props to the Rowdies around him who kind of just looked at him and somewhat distanced themselves from him. I think he got the hint because he looked around and then shut up. -
Can't State Basketball's New Theme Music
zipdiehard replied to g-mann17's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Shamelessly stolen from a "Bobcat Attack" thread. A sign idea: "Can't Read, Can't Write, Can't plead not guilty". -
I personally don't think that winning has much to do with who they consider when looking at expansion. If that was the case how did USF end up in the Big East? Had anyone even heard of them prior to going to the Big East? I think the points about facilities, fan support (ie $$), and geographical location are what really drive who they look at. The Big East rumors I have always heard stemmed from the proximity to large cities and markets that some MAC schools offer. Expansion for the Big East would involve expanding their market as well. It is also tough to try and say how would Akron do against WV or Pitt when we haven't been exposed to the increased recruiting that comes with being in a bigger conference. While we would take our lumps initially, one could assume that our recruiting base would expand almost immediately. We lose out on kids all the time that we would have a much better chance of getting having Big East tied to our name.

You don't realize how small our defense is until you see it spelled out like that. As they say "size isn't everything", but it sure doesn't hurt to have a little of it to go against those 300 lb lineman that most schools have these days.

The ones near me were fine, except for one that was annoying as heck. This guy stood behind everyone and talked almost non stop. A BSU player could puke up his spleen and this guy would be gabbing away about how he really got some distance on it. On top of that, when he did actually shut up, he had these long drawn out clapping sessions with himself. I am guessing the BSU fans that were thirty rows in front of him had previously expelled him from the club.

Did anyone else see the pictures that went with the "Mortgage Fraud" article in today's Beacon? The article states one of the indicted was Michael Dowdell. The picture sure looks like the former Zip b-baller. Is that him?

I'm surprised that some on here haven't tried to blame Anderson's stellar performance last night on Charlie!

A co-worker knows the family...from what he knows, KD wanted Cameron to walk on but he realized we were loaded at PG for the next several years, so he looked at other avenues. He apparently played very well at two recent AAU tournerys (WV and Vegas I believe) and really opened some eyes. Problem is that no one has schollies left. He is a bit smaller than Dru, but very similar, especially in knowing the game. Walking on a Can't gave him the best shot at D1.

The Beacon reported he was cut. That Giants link in the D Hixon thread shows him no longer on the roster.

ESPN Article on the Zips (and LeBron)
zipdiehard replied to AK-Zips's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I know we are getting off subject here, bu I'm not so sure I would call Cant's basketball accomplishments in the last 10+ years "comical". If we had their same success we would be struting around with our chests out letting everyone know about it. We have had some REGULAR season success of late, with a decent NIT run last year and most of us are proud of that. No matter how much we hate them, you have to give them props for 10 straight 20 win seasons, several NCAA appearances that include that elite 8 run that we would love to have on our resume (all of which has been done despite the numerous coaching changes). I honestly have never understood the slight that Can't gets nationally when they talk about succesful Mid Major programs. I guess it goes with the other posts concerning the MAC being seen as a joke. -
Not sure if this has been posted before...Does anyone know if they are going to have or honor the Kid's club passes at the new stadium? With three kids they save me a bundle going to the various events.

It will never happen, but now that the court has set the value of the property, does the city, county or state go after them for the appropriate taxes?

Great...err..Highly Controversial Column By Bob Dyer
zipdiehard replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Man, why do people read into things so much? How one would get 'anti-Catholic' out of this is beyond me. The article is solidly written and contains many facts to make its point. Private schools have an advantage both academically and athletically, whatever the cause and effect is that you apply. We all know how high school sports work, and yes that includes public school recruiting. When I was growing up, kids went to certain Akron public schools based on what sport you were strong in...CH for basketball, Garfield for football, Ellet for baseball, etc... I see no problem with considering a different division or realignment for private schools as long as it doesn't put them at a disadvantage by placing a really small school in too big of a division. SVSM did it themselves in basketball when a certain player was there. Let's be honest here in that we are really talking about the sports factories, not every single private school. -
Wow, first Andrew Moss, now Rydell Brooks

Did anyone else notice the "lawyerspeak" about Rydell's commitment to the University? Tell me he ain't playing off all the good things about the U lately! -
Another question...does the '09 recruiting just stop? What if something would fall through with Zeke? Do they just now concentrate on '10?

He made so few mistakes you never knew he was there. UA's version of the invisible man.
