  1. You appear to be correct. Interesting there is no mention of a return game. Did we allow ourselves to get bought by Liberty?
  2. Akron is hosting Liberty in 2022. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155875075922073&id=164280277072&sfnsn=mo
  3. Yes, I do believe points scored/allowed aren't good metrics to measure overall offense/defense as they don't factor in pace. The more possessions in a game, the more points each team is going to score and allow. I look more at efficiency as a better metric. Akron is currently dead last in the MAC in overall fg%, 10th in 3P%, and 5th in ft%. We have the fewest turnovers per game, which is nice, but that probably has a lot to do with the fact we keep tempo at a slower pace.
  4. Not to mention E-man. That's pretty much how I see it as well. On paper I think that looks like a team that can win the MAC. My hope is that getting Utomi back to his more natural position will help him be more comfortable on the offensive end. I honestly think Banks is a much better 3-point shooter than we've seen in MAC play. He was straight money during OOC play. At this point I just feel it's a confidence issue. His shot selection has mostly been good. The shots just have quit falling. Hopefully he can be that bench scorer. If not, we may be forced to move Cheese into a Nick Perkins type 6th man role.
  5. I actually feel pretty much all of Ivey's minutes at the 3 will be filled by Utomi. Utomi may get a few minutes at the 4, but I expect that's where Williams will play most of his minutes. Riak has been the anchor of a top 30 defense. He'll continue to get his 25-30 minutes a night. We also have Reece coming in who will officially be a junior. I can't imagine Groce took a flier on a junior unless he expected him to be able to step in and be in the rotation immediately. I expect him to get most of the minutes at the 4 that Williams doesn't play.
  6. If anything the number of P5-FCS match-ups are declining, not increasing. The B1G doesn't even allow its members to schedule FCS schools now where as a B1G-FCS school match-up was common place 10 years ago.
  7. The Ivy League is non-scholarship FCS so beating them wouldn't count towards bowl eligibility.
  8. Playing a cupcake FCS team for an easy win to guarantee us 1 win closer to bowl eligibility is the safe option, however, frankly I have 0 interest in playing *insert some random school that I didn't even know had a football team* who we're expected to beat by 30. It's why I haven't attended an FCS opponent game since I was a student. In fact, I haven't even bothered to watch the game on TV during that same time. I actually have interest in a Akron-YSU game. If we lose, it means our team stinks and we don't deserve to go to a bowl.
  9. Fox Sports Ohio has reportedly reached a multi-year deal to become the regional carrier for the Columbus Crew. If you're a cord cutter who has ESPN+, you should also be able to watch matches there as long as you live outside of the Columbus media market. https://theathletic.com/817155/2019/02/13/fox-sports-ohio-becomes-new-television-home-for-the-columbus-crew/
  10. The staff literally had 1 1/2 months to assemble this class and on paper its better than pretty much every Bowden class. Your folks at 247 would agree with that. Just look at this years grades and compare it to previous years grades. You may be pessimistic, but I'm looking forward to seeing what Arth can do when given a full 12 months to recruit. If he fails to deliver, I'll be the 1st one here complaining about it. The same as I was when I lost faith in Bowden.
  11. I'm old at heart, which is what matters. Get off my lawn.
  12. I actually haven't seen what they're getting paid. The going rate for an FCS home opponent typically falls somewhere in the $400k-$500k range.
  13. I wonder what made YSU change their mind about playing Ohio MAC schools. Their AD was adamant they would only agree to a home and home. Personally, I thought it short sided on their part. It seems like a win/win for both parties. Akron will have an FCS opponent that will interest both home fans and will attract some visitor fans. YSU gets to collect a paycheck with next to no expense while also getting the opportunity to prove the rhetoric they have said all these years about being a peer to Akron/Kent.
  14. When I graduated in 2012 there was a shuttle already that picked kids up at exchange dorms and dropped them off at the student union. It came every 15-20 minutes. It's not specifically for the games. It did it throughout the entire course of the day until 10 or 11 at night. I imagine the same service still exists.
  15. The stands seemed much fuller than other homes games (Kent excluded). I'm guessing there were just much fewer STH no shows for this game compared to others. I would have definitely liked to have seen a larger GA attendance obviously, but I was surprised to see how empty the student section was for this game. Did the university not get the memo out that Akron was facing a ranked opponent or is apathy among students just that bad? They had a great turn out for the Kent game. I would have been happy if we could have gotten half that amount for this game.
  16. Our next two games are @Ball State & @BGSU. I can live with losing the BGSU game as we're currently 3 back from them with only 7 games left. The game we really need is Ball State. With a loss they would slide 1 game behind us and own the tie-breaker. The season hasn't gone the way Ball State expected, but they still have some talent and are more than capable of going on a run given their weak remaining MAC schedule. It's just best for us to bury them that way we don't have to worry about them for seeding.
  17. Yeah, I think those got left out of the ESPN box score for whatever reason. As did the 2 offensive boards that corresponded to those put back attempts. 4/7 from the field is still good.
  18. Not that this is saying much but I actually thought this was Riak's best offensive game of MAC play. He went 4/5 from the field with 8 points. I'll take that from my center. What I'm surprised to see noone mention is that I, from my seat in the bleachers, scored as many points as our entire bench tonight. I did that while taking 4 fewer shots. Banks looked like a really good 3 and D guy early on in the season. With Roscoe and Pokie not being big offensive factors, he needs to be a spark off the bench. With our thin bench we're going to be exposed in Cleveland where you have to win 3 games in 3 days. I think we're a year away.
  19. Took the words out of my mouth about attendence. It should be noted about 10 of those FT are from us intentionally fouling to extend the game.
  20. Announced attendence was ~2700. That's embarassing considering this was a top 25 opponent. I'm glad it was on ESPN+ and not on cable.
  21. Made it close at the end, but big difference in the is they made 82% pf their free throws. We made 56%.
  22. I knew LCJ was going to put up that contested 3 as soon as it was passed to him. Down 6 you need to work for better shots.
  23. Cheese playing hero ball is the only offense we've had in the 2nd half. We need to get some stops. Hard to go on a run when they're matching us bucket for bucket.
  24. I like that Riak has been active on the offensive glass and has tried to get some put backs. Someones got to hit some shots or this is going to quickly turn into a 20 point deficit.
  25. I would have liked to have seen us attack more when we got them in foul trouble. Overall I liked the effort. Lets see if we can play with the same effort in the 2nd half and get some shots to fall.
