  1. I'm actually with @zippy5 on this. Akron hangs banners for regular season championships, not 2nd or 3rd place finishes. Winning a regular season title also guarantees us nothing worse than a NIT postseason appearance.
  2. What I find great is NC State lost so badly to #11 VA Tech that they went from being ranked to not even receiving a single vote. I'm not surprised to see Buffalo still ranked. As I mentioned previously, their loss to NIU dropped them only 4 spots. They would have needed to fall 8 spots, if I remember their ranking last week correctly, to slide out of the top 25 and BG is better than NIU. Buffalo doesn't have a game until Saturday so as long as they beat CMU @ home, which I strongly feel they will, they will be ranked when they come to Akron.
  3. The Ball State player traveled when he hit the 3-pointer to force OT. It all evened out.
  4. There were. The arena seats over 13k so even at 8k the arena is only ~75% full. That's the problem with an oversized arena.
  5. They probably still had ~8k there. The problem is the Convo Center seats 13k+ so even with 8k in attendance that leaves a lot of empty seats. That's the problem of playing in an oversized arena.
  6. They still might be. They only dropped 4 spots when they lost to NIU and BGSU is better than NIU. It really just depends on how the other teams in the 20-30 range do.
  7. Buffalo had 49 at the half. BG played great defense in the 2nd half and used that to turn an 8 point half-time deficit into an 11 point lead with 3 minutes left. Buffalo stormed back and actually missed a 3 that would have tied it near the end.
  8. BGSU up 61-60 over Buffalo with just under 12 min left. Edit: BGSU up 79-71 with 6:19 left
  9. I've never had one, but if it's anything like trying to endure a 2nd half Zips road game, I want no part.
  10. I try to forget our road games given how poorly we play them. Thanks for putting a damper on my weekend.
  11. I'm not normally one to get involved in recruiting discussion as frankly I'm not going to pretend to know something about some kid in Georgia who I've never seen play. That being said on the surface it seems despite Arth getting a late start on recruiting, we're actively involved in recruiting battles against other FBS schools. It seemed under the Bowden area we landed a lot of guys who we were their only FBS offer. I feel it's a positive sign.
  12. I'm looking forward to Williams playing next year. He'll be a nice stretch 4, which should free up Utomi to see more minutes at his more natural SF position. Reece is coming in as a junior next year too so you have to think Groce thinks he can make an immediate impact in the big man rotation to offer him a scholarship instead of taking a flier on a freshman.
  13. Even if he loses his waiver to be immediately eligible for fall semester, he'll still be eligible for the spring semester by sitting out now. Him leaving the team now was the best decision for him. We have 3 bigs that are better than him and we only play 1 big at a time. He wasn't going to see meaningful minutes and his departure doesn't hurt the Zips chances.
  14. GT actually wrote a decent piece ?
  15. Yes, I gathered that much. I just wasn't sure if he was for NCAA levying sanctions for incidences that arise like 1981 grad mentioned or if he was simply just stating a fact.
  16. I was asking a simple question. I wasn't sure where he was trying to go with his post.
  17. Are you wanting the NCAA actively involved any time an incident arises involving 1 of its 460,000 student athletes?
  18. I have no problem with teams policing themselves. That's how it should be. The NCAA coming in to conduct an investigation and banning players/coaches should be reserved for things like the Sandusky scandal where a program failed in policing itself.
  19. I don't think it's that terrible for them. The team that's getting screwed is WMU as now they have 4 games in 8 days. Kent plays Akron Friday then plays WMU that following Thursdays. WMU during Kent's 5 off days plays both at Ball State and at home against NIU. It will be the most winnable road game Kent plays all year.
  20. I doubt any D1 coach would take him. He'll probably find his way onto a JUCO or NAIA roster I'm guessing. Has he even been convicted yet? You're opening pandora's box if you're wanting the NCAA to ban players without a criminal conviction.
  21. Historically its been in the 10-15 range. The MAC returned something like 12 out of its 15 All-MAC players so this year was expected to be a very good year for the MAC. Now MAC rosters are loaded with graduating seniors so next year we should see some drop off. Also, I'd be very shocked to see Oats returning to Buffalo so who knows what kind of fall out that will create for them. If they were smart, they should take a page out of PCCC playbook and promote from within to prevent a mass exodus of transfers and keep the momentum of the program.
  22. I said I'd revisit it next at the end of the season, however, I stumbled upon the below on reddit so figured I'd share. The first set of rankings was the one I was previously calculating in my previous post. The MAC average position on teams has actually improved considerably compared to what it previously was and has actually past the WCC and has narrowed the gap with the AAC and P12. The 2nd set of rankings is the kenpom adjem added together for all teams then divided by the number of teams in the conference. This metric places WCC ahead of the MAC because Gonzaga's adjem is 31.39. Buffalo's & Toledo's combined (MAC's 2 highest teams) is 31.63.The other 2 rank offense and defense stats of the conference. The MAC ranks 8th in offense and 10th in defense. Once again Gonzaga 126.6 (ranked #1 in country) boosts the WCC average.
  23. For whatever reason I thought it was 12, but you're right it is 13, my mistake.
  24. We're currently at 13 scholarships for next season according to @Illini Zip spreadsheet, which actually already puts us 1 over.
  25. They moved up to ~60 after their dismantling of Toledo to start MAC play. They've been sliding down the rankings ever since. If they keep playing the way they have, it won't be long until they join the rest of the pack in the ~140 range.
