  1. Below are the current NET rankings for all MAC teams. They don't factor in last nights games as the new numbers haven't been posted today yet, but not much should change. 18 Buffalo 61 Toledo 102 Ball St. 116 Northern Ill. 134 Bowling Green 138 Kent St. 139 Central Mich. 140 Akron 147 Miami (OH) 167 Eastern Mich. 170 Ohio 269 Western Mich.
  2. No, you don't get the stuff that's on cable. You don't get the stuff on ESPN3 neither, however, very few games are on ESPN3 these days. Mostly everything moved to ESPN+. It's pretty much what ESPN3 use to be, but on steroids as ESPN went out and acquired rights to tons on new sports to bolster their offering. I previously mentioned they acquired MLS version of Sunday ticket. Zippy5 mentioned they had PGA Live as else, but apparently lost it. They air tons of foreign soccer, cricket, other misc sports. They have all the 30 for 30s available and tons of other ESPN+ exclusive shows. You also gain access to all the ESPN insider articles so those are no longer behind a paywall. I'm sure there is stuff I'm missing. I signed up for a year for $50. I'll definitely re-up when my subscription comes due.
  3. I'm not sure what kind of TV deal the Crew are going to strike this year, especially since it wasn't finalized until early December that they were staying, but all out of market MLS matches air on ESPN+. Cleveland/Akron/Canton all are considered out of market so if you live in NEO and Spectrum ends up being the regional carrier again, there are other options available to view games live.
  4. Speaking of the UNLV - Nevada game, it reminded me of the below that I stumbled upon. I thought about sharing it in another thread where we were discussing our poor promotions, but didn't. The marketing team at UNLV is on point and this deal is phenomenal. This is what good marketing looks like. If anyone at the UA athletic department is looking, take note.
  5. I see your point. These rankings make a lot more sense when you put it that way.
  6. As far as I understand it only factored in D1 football and NFL cities. Canton would therefore not be included. I just feel the metrics are kind of BS. Just sorting by the NFL ranks they ranked Cleveland 27th out of 30 cities. I wonder what kind of attendance and fan support those other 29 cities would have is they sucked like the Browns have for the past 20 years. Sure, some cities like Green Bay and Oakland would still be doing well, but no way LA, Miami, Charlotte, Indianapolis etc. would be doing better. If this study was conducted in 5 years using the exact same metrics the numbers will look completely different as of course the teams that are currently winning are attracting larger attendances and are able to command higher ticket prices due to bandwagon fans. A different sport, but Cavs are witnessing 1st hand the mass exodus of bandwagon fans. If a similar study was done on the NBA the Cavs would have been a top 5 "basketball fan base." This year they would have slid into the 20s.
  7. Interesting that we're still recruiting for 2019. Even with the recent departure of a couple of players, we're still at 13 scholarships for next year so someone still has to go. I'm not seeing anyone having the type of season that makes you think a bigger school is eyeing them to transfer so I wonder what 1-2 players "decide" to transfer down.
  8. I like ESPN+ a lot. Between ESPN+, Netflix, and the regular OTA stations I have no desire to have a cable package. Even during the dead period of Zips sports (April-July), ESPN+ will broadcast every single Columbus Crew match as long as you live outside Columbus area.
  9. Given the Zips having the night off and the arctic temperatures barricading me inside, I'll most likely flip between the other 4 MAC games.
  10. I quit reading when I saw he had Miami (FL) ranked 6th overall. Both the Dolphins and Hurricanes have trouble filling their stadiums even when they have good teams...
  11. I had a co-worker sneak up on me when I was scrolling past the above pic. I'm probably going to be labeled as the office perv now
  12. It's not easy to win on the road. The teams that can consistently do it are the good to great teams. The teams that can't are the mediocre to bad teams.
  13. Akron still has yet to get a road win this season and it's not like we're in a position to think going in this will be an easy win. Ohio is only 1 game behind us in the standings. If we lose i don't feel it's because we looked past Ohio. It would be because frankly we suck playing on the road.
  14. 4 out of the 5 MAC teams currently with a winning conference record are in the MAC East. No MAC East team is worse than 3-4 in conference play. 9 out of our last 11 are against the MAC East and another against Toledo. The home stretch is going to be tough, but we should see a lot of quality match ups.
  15. He also went something like 6-18 from the field with a couple of those makes being desperation 3s that somehow found the net. Overall I feel Akron has done a good job at making opposing #1 scorers work for their points.
  16. Hated the decision to foul. We're terrible in boxing out on free throws. They missed an easy tip in that could have tied it.
  17. Hippity hop race right on queue
  18. Already 3 turnovers by Riak
  19. I'm guessing it's one of those flags people wear like a cape. Just pure speculation.
  20. They gave the shooter 2 shots because he was fouled in the act of shooting before the buzzer, but he didn't release it before the buzzer therefore the make didn't count. The Buffalo player missed both free throws
  21. Still best to cheer for Buffalo. A Buffalo win plus an Akron win tomorrow would slide us into tie for 3rd place in the MAC.
  22. EMU offers a deal called the Little Caesars 4 pack. You get 4 GA tickets, 4 slices of pizza, and 4 drinks for $34. The same 4 pack without a drink and pizza would have cost rowdyzip $87. I'm sure plenty of other schools are offering better promotions than we do.
  23. I went out and tracked down the attendance numbers for the past two seasons off the MAC website. I found it a bit lazy these numbers weren't referenced in the article. Buffalo, Toledo, & EMU are all already eclipsing last years averages. February and March are typically the highest attended games as you're in the heart of conference play, students are back in class, and are when you play your rivals. I know both Akron and Kent still have home games left against one another plus Ohio and Buffalo. I have to imagine BGSU, CMU, and NIU will all surpass their last year averages. I think MAC attendance is going to be up compared to last year because of the higher caliber play of the conference this year. This is at a time when attendance has been trending down a crossed the board for all sports. It's unrealistic to expect going from playing in a 1/3 filled arenas to sell outs in 1 season. It would take a string of seasons of playing at a high level to see the big jump in attendance that Alexander is expecting. 2018-2019 1 Ohio 5,048.0 2 Buffalo 4,681.0 3 Toledo 4,400.0 4 Ball State 3,205.0 5 Akron 2,341.0 6 CMU 2,058.0 7 Kent 2,044.0 8 WMU 1,786.0 9 EMU 1,703.0 10 BGSU 1,561.0 11 Miami 1,327.0 12 NIU 921.0 2017-2018 Ohio 5598 Toledo 3990 Ball State 3721 Buffalo 3570 Akron 2824 Kent State 2800 WMU 2226 CMU 2132 BGSU 1917 Miami 1671 EMU 1233 NIU 998
  24. I don't think I've ever made a food purchase at the JAR. I grab food beforehand or afterward, typically at Euro or Score.
  25. Single game tickets are outrageous, I'd agree. The value comes in getting season tickets, but that also means your're committing to go to more than 1 game. That said, price isn't a deterrent for students as admission costs are already built into their student fees and I saw maybe 150 students at the game Tuesday. I'm not sure why we don't see better promotions such as a $1 dog night. Those type of events seem help draw fans to Rubber Duck games. Also selling alcohol at the JAR would open up opportunities like having a craft beer night which could appeal to the younger alumni.
