  1. He's likely on the low end for D1 coaches in pay, but still probably a decent amount more than he was making at the preparatory school. The chances of him having success when he has 1/2 the number of scholarships and a fraction of the recruiting budget of everyone else is slim. I don't see him being able to do well enough with the odds stacked this against him to get attention elsewhere. On the plus side for him nobody is going to fault a start-up program with only a handful of scholarships for being bad. This should give him pretty good job security for a number of years.
  2. I want the 3 minutes of my life back that it took me to read that article.
  3. Browns make the list?
  4. https://www.hustlebelt.com/2018/10/22/18007294/2018-19-akron-zips-mens-basketball-preview-and-preseason-mac-power-ranking
  5. We narrowly escaped a 1-7 Kent State team. I'd certainly hope we wouldn't take any game for granted.
  6. Preseason poll has Duquesne finishing 11th in A10.
  7. Personally, I'm all for it. College basketball has kind of turned into a joke with all these 1 and dones and Adidas paying players to attend certain schools. Hopefully this helps return college basketball to being an actual amateur sport played by real student athletes. http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25015812/g-league-offer-professional-path-elite-prospects-not-wanting-go-one-done-route-ncaa
  8. Nebraska doesn't want to refund the 85k fans that paid to see Nebraska & Akron play.
  9. Mounds has done a great job, but I'm not a fan of not allowing a new coach to pick his staff.
  10. There were more teams. I excluded teams like WV, who I don't think we have much chance against and excluded teams like Appalachian State who are currently 4-1 so likely would have no incentive to play the game. If we're 5-6, I honestly hope Bowden would be fired at that point. I honestly don't think a 12th game will get played.
  11. Does anyone even have a list of teams available that week? Another FCS opponent won't do us any good as you can only count 1 win per year against them. That limits us to 128 FBS schools. Of those, how many haven't exceeded the 12 game limit (13 for Hawaii or any team that played at Hawaii)? Of those how many do we have a punchers chance against? Below are the select few that I could think of. There might be some that I'm missing. - Marshall - Southern Miss - East Carolina - Wyoming - UNLV
  12. We still have 3 games left against current 1-6 teams so there is a strong likelihood we backdoor ourselves into a 6-6 season
  13. If this makes it easier for students to knock out some gen ed credits at a lower cost, I'm all for it.
  14. A huge part of coaching in college athletics is recruiting. If you want to blame the lack of talent on the team that's on the coaches for not recruiting better players.
  15. We're 2-2 and 0-1 against the MAC. I think we have different definitions of good. Off to another mediocre season, I would agree.
  16. Sure, I agree this loss appears to have changed some peoples opinions. It feels odd being on the side of popular opinion in regards to this issue.
  17. He inherited a 1-11 team 7 years ago. That's a lifetime ago in sports. He's now the 2nd longest tenured coach in the MAC. That shouldn't be used as an excuse any longer for the cycle of mediocrity we find ourselves in. We should be in a position to compete for MAC Championships by now. No getting smoked by Toledo last year on national TV doesn't in my mind count as competing. I have been critical of Bowden on this forum, but I am very appreciative that he brought us out of that cycle of being bottom feeders. I just have no faith he can lead us to being top contenders in the MAC, which is what I aspire the program to be. This program just reeks of stagnation.
  18. That piece seemed to be a lot less negative than prior the annual ABJ story. I find it strange that Akron decided to add 2 additional sports while at the same time discussing the potential of dropping down in others.
  19. It's really challenging to project the number of scholarships available regardless. It's nearly impossible to project whose going to transfer or not at this stage.
  20. The highest paid coaches in the NCAA was posted yesterday and a familiar face can be found at #10. Nice to see Nebraska is getting a fine return out of their investment https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/10/03/nick-saban-urban-meyer-jim-harbaugh-jimbo-fisher-highest-paid-football-coaches-2018
  21. Nebraska ended up scheduling Bethune-Cookman to replace the Akron game. Probably a wise decision on their part so they can avoid a winless season.
  22. NIU Buffalo Kent Fresno State TCU Nebraska
  23. It's hard to fathom how Rutgers isn't better given their history to the game and the fact they're the only FBS school in a state that produces a fairly decent amount of talent.
  24. If the Zips go onto win 9-10 games I can see how his résumé could warrant P5 consideration, but at his age it's going to be hard for him to land a job.
  25. The QB lobbed the ball into the endzone in an area 13 players were standing (8 of them Zips). The ball barely crossed the endzone. If there is another name for such a play it's news to me.
