  1. Any news on who will be on the coaching staff?
  2. Personally, I actually like them. I can attend the games and still make other plans for the evening. I kind of find it a bit strange that nobody complains about noon or 3:30 Saturday football start times, but a 2PM basketball game that last half as long is a big inconvenience.
  3. Highlight them on ESPN+? I remember under Dambrot our "Saturday" games kept getting flexed to Friday primetime. I can't imagine the MAC dictates our OOC game times.
  4. It's encouraging to hear he was able to land some guys who had what would normally be viewed as "better offers elsewhere." Hopefully he can do the same here.
  5. Why even bring him in to this discussion if you know he didn't jump straight from HS HC to D1 HC huh? smh Edit: On a side note I wouldn't be against hiring the Hoban guy as an assistant coach.
  6. I'm not particularly thrilled with the Arth hiring myself. I found it strange he was a candidate in the first place. I'm just giving the guy a chance now because he's our coach so therefore want to see him succeed. Dambrot was an Akron assistant for several years prior to becoming the head coach and had prior head coaching experience at both the D1 and D2 levels. Promoting an assistant coach to head coach is extremely common.
  7. I'd certainly hope Arth would be targeting higher caliber players than he was at Chattanooga. If not, this will RI 2.0.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1 or 2 of the Buffalo games moved to Friday evening to be on CBSSN. Not like that is any better though.
  9. I'm sorry when was I going back and forth with you on the matter??? If you look back this is my 1st post on the matter. All I was stating is when you try to present a fact don't present something that hurts your stance. You named a coach that failed at not 1, but 2 programs.
  10. And how'd he do there? Edit: If you're going to find an example of someone who jumped straight from HS to D1 at least find someone who did it successfully. Faust is an example of why we shouldn't higher a HS straight from a HS.
  11. What's sickening is Marshall came into the game averaging 5 less rebounds per game than their competition, which ranked them among the worst in the nation in that department.
  12. More than $2.1 mil. I'm counting $3.15 mil. Most years we only get ~$1 mil $1.3 mill South Carolina $1.2 mil Northwestern $650k Nebraska
  13. Groce said he had a concussion.
  14. The play was actually drawn up to go to Utomi, who cut to the basket. He had a defender on him but from my angle i think the inbounder could have got him the ball. Jackson was the 2nd option.
  15. Why we waste so much time? We were only at 7 team fouls. We put up a quicker shot and miss and we could have still put them at the line for a 1 and 1
  16. 9 turnovers in the 1st half. We need to do a better job of cleaning that up and rotating on defense. They're getting a lot of easy looks.
  17. Would still do a better job than RI.
  18. I don't care about getting a coach that creates headlines with their hire. We had that with Bowden. A name loses its significance if it can't put a competitive team on the field. I don't know the ins and outs of all these coaches, but give me the guy whose best at recruiting and developing talent.
  19. Only the team hosting pays and some amount of that goes towards covering the traveling teams transportation costs. There is no real media deal or much of any sponsorship tied to the tournament so charging teams to participate kind of is the only way to keep the tournaments afloat.
  20. I hope we come to a decision by Monday or Tuesday.
  21. I believe it's $40k per home game 1st two rounds then jumps to $75k for every round thereafter. I wonder how that compares to us paying teams like Detroit Mercy or Coppin State to come to the JAR during the regular season?
  22. They should honestly just expand the NIT to 64 teams then get rid of both the CBI and CIT.
  23. Kent State quit caring about their football program. This year they took 3 paycheck games, next year they're taking 3 paycheck games, and in 2020 they have 3 paycheck games. They already have 2 paycheck games scheduled for 2021 with 1 open date still left to schedule. You can just start penciling them in for 1-3 OOC records.
  24. Akron is still a young team who is still learning to develop team chemistry. Pretty much any combination of 5 players we put on the court never played together in an actual game before this season. I expect for us to continue improving as the season goes on. I'm excited for March basketball, which I can't say I was last year. Another thing is pretty much all the MAC teams have senior laden rosters. Akron may actually be the favorite to win the MAC next year while also be in contention for it this year.
  25. Out of likes, but I agree.
