  1. The scores might not have been, but the outcomes certainly were.
  2. It appears this thread has turned into the official 2017 OSU thread. I'll make sure to avoid it. I come here to talk Zips sports. I don't care about dwelling on any other specific team.
  3. I feel Akron's only chance is to jump on them early. If OU is playing with a lead they will be even more inclined to running the ball which I don't see Akron having any chance of stopping.
  4. The race in the West has certainly tightened up.
  5. Thank goodness, I won't need to keep my phone open to track stats any longer.
  6. With WMU loss last night, it looks like a 2 horse race in the West.
  7. Its definitely what Section210Zip states along with factoring in strength of schedule and home/away and perhaps a trickle of some other stuff. Just like Kenpom in basketball, this metric doesn't care about wins and losses. They derive their odds using other factors. Not to say I agree or disagree with it, but that's how they are determined.
  8. The real problem is there is there is 130 teams competing for 4 playoff spots. All having unbalanced schedules. There will always be people complaining about something in said system. Edit: I don't feel its a perfect system but I feel it would be an upgrade if they expanded to 8 teams with the 5 P5 conference winners getting an auto-bid, the top ranked G5, and 2 wildcards.
  9. I feel WMU is a better team than OU and we still found a way of beating them. I do agree that OU is likely the better team, but they certainly aren't unbeatable.
  10. Urban Meyer is only 53. If he's holding out for the OSU job, he might be waiting a very long time.
  11. You can buy slim streaming bundles that don't have ESPN at all. You also have people that have given up live TV altogether and get their "TV fix" solely from Netflix.
  12. This is the year Akron needs to clear the 15k average so I'm sure they will finish the season somewhere in the 15k-18k range. I'm also sure that Akron will be transferring $400k-$600k from the general fund to see those numbers are met. http://www.cleveland.com/datacentral/index.ssf/2017/03/university_of_akron_sports_sti.html
  13. Rome wasn't built in a day. Attendance will always lag behind success. If we finish out this season strong you could probably expect to see some sort of small uptick in season tickets next year. People perceive our progrum as the dumpster fire of FBS from all the years of failure and little to no prior success. Its going to take years of winning football to overcome that perception.
  14. Remember the poster that thought we could average 15k fans this season? I agree with Balsy though. I'm kind of over talking about attendance. Its going to continue to blow until the culture surrounding the game improves.
  15. I think you can still get that on like MTV8
  16. 10 wins should be considered a terrible season for any D1 basketball program. Last year only 2 MAC programs won fewer than 15 games and all programs won more than 10.
  17. It's definitely a factor, even if its only a small one. I kept cable a long time just because I enjoyed watching ESPN before bed. I would also listen to ESPN Radio on my commute to work and back and while sitting at my desk at work. I cut back my viewership (and eventually just quit watching/listening all together) not only because of the politics talk but also because of the constant TMZ journalism. I give zero sh!ts about which player is hooking up with whose girlfriend/mom/sister. I can't stand the constant making news stories based entirely off speculation and zero facts. They got away from real reporting and talking about the on the field/court product. I can't be the only one that felt the same.
  18. I'm not going to go as far to say last season was a complete failure. I hate the if you're not 1st, your last mentality. I'd give last season a B. We fell short of what I expected, but still had a pretty good season overall. Had we not got run off the court against UTA i'd probably of given it a B+.
  19. 6-7 teams get priority over 5-7 teams. In a system where ~60% of the teams make a bowl with fewer and fewer schools scheduling FCS opponents, its statistically improbable for a 6-6 or for a 6-7 team to not make a bowl.
  20. I doubt they know where they would be going this early. I imagine they would be getting these passports more as a just in case scenario.
  21. I like the long-term outlook for the team, but this season will most likely be a rough one. We are thin at about each position and we will be asking a lot of unproven players to play big minutes.
  22. Fair or not TV ratings and ticket sales is what drives bowl match-ups. An 8-5 Iowa will generate more viewers and ticket sales than a 11-2 Toledo.
  23. Glad to hear he is having success. I sometimes grew frustrated with this shot selection, but I could tell he always gave 110%. He should have a successful career in whatever league he ends up in.
  24. As did I in my detailed explanation I provided you, but it still doesn't change the fact you're here claiming your opinion is more right. We're just are using different measurable.
  25. And I would love to see this happen. It would certainly silence many of the critics for the time being. Like I said the way to silence nay-sayers is winning and winning often. I imagine very few people would be critical of a 9 win season.
