1. Referees aren't hired by the MAC. The same referees who work B10, Horizon, A10, MVC, etc are the same refs who work MAC. I'm pretty sure college football is the only collegiate sport where conferences have their own officials.
2. Once UC, Houston, and UCF leave, the AAC is pretty much going to be what the C-USA was 10 years ago. I'd say it's a upgrade, but really not all that better than the MAC. I'd rather just save the millions we'd have to spend flying our non-revenue sports teams to places like Texas, Florida, Louisiana, etc and instead invest that money on better coaches and facilities.
3. These writers for the hustlebelt write these previews and articles more as a hobby. I doubt they make any money off the site. They probably do watch a couple MAC games a week, but given how bad Akron is they probably only tune in for the games their teams face Akron. The majority of these previews are them just looking through stats and boxscores and then adding in whatever anecdotal opinions based off the few highlights they've seen. Edit: And that's not meant as a knock to the writers. They're certainly trying to step in and fill a gap since the national and local media outlets don't give MAC schools much attention. I'm more so just pointing out these writers have other jobs so it's not like you're going to get the best stuff from them.
4. They're not really honors, they're predictions. Honors will happen at the end of the season voting.
5. I just think it comes down to there not being much to talk about. If it was as simple as people not posting because the Zips were bad at football then they would have abandoned the program under Ianello or Arth
6. I'd say most teams still run the QB sneak under center. The Browns run it 2-3 times per game. It's just a growing trend of more and more teams deciding not to do it. It wouldn't seem that hard for a QB and C to stay after practice and spend 10-15 minutes snapping the ball under center that way it's not foreign to do in game situations
7. When a moveable object meets a stoppable force
8. It's year 1 and I feel Joe is creating a fun offense that 18-23 year old skill players will want to play in. Irons is #12 in the nation in passing yards. We have 3 receivers in the top 100 in receiving yards (#20 Shocky, #86 George, and #87 Adams). Obviously we're not going to go out and land 4* and 5* freshmen, but I feel very much we can become a preferred destination for skilled players who have talent, but got buried on the depth chart at P5 schools and just want an opportunity to showcase their talent.
9. I didn't like settling for the fg or punting on 4th & 2 on Kent's side of the field. Despite our defense playing well in the first quarter, it has been garbage all season. You have to be aggressive on offense to score points because you can't count on the defense to get stops.
10. I actually thought this was some creative marketing that poked fun at students wearing other teams gear on campus, but done in a fun, amusing way.
11. Toledo and choking in the postseason...name a more iconic duo
12. Anyone get their season tickets in the mail yet?
13. I didn't want to create a new thread for this so figured I'd put it here. There is talks going that the NCAA is looking to expand the tournament by 20 or so teams. My first thought is that would be great that the MAC would have a chance to get an at-large. My immediate second thought is I bet the tournament would just take the 12th and 13th place Big 10 team instead.

Sources: The Division 1 Transformation Committee has had dialogue to expand the NCAA Tournament in all sports to include 25% of the programs who are eligible.

This would mean the Men's Basketball NCAA Tournament would expand by approximately 20 teams.

Many have opposed this.
— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) October 20, 2022

14. It's good to see some MAC schools are doing well, but that's not the norm throughout the MAC as a whole. All 3 Michigan schools, Akron, and NIU have all experienced severe enrollment declines to various degrees https://www.mlive.com/business/2022/10/michigans-public-universities-have-lost-45000-students-since-2011-its-about-to-get-worse.html Edit: I didn't realized you posted this last month. I just received the notification today. That's weird
15. I don't think the Zips have a QB on the roster who can challenge Irons for the job, but I'd love to see some competition get brought in for a QB competition next year. Irons while I think has the tools to he really good seems to hold onto the ball too long, which leads to many costly sacks. I get our o-line isn't good, but he needs to get better at throwing it away or checking down instead of taking costly sacks.
16. Well if you're saying Joe is a good coach then the answer is time. I don't see any meaningful improvement happening this year, but I expect to be more competitive next year when Joe has a full recruiting cycle to get his guys in here.
17. Was approaching field goal range for opportunity game winning attempt only to fumble and let CMU return it for a TD Zips going to Zip...
18. I honestly don't think it would help much. Students can get in for free and they still don't show up
19. What's going to hurt Schiano is that Rutgers plays in the second best division in all of FBS. Most years UM, OSU, and PSU are going to all be in the top ~15. Maryland has steadily been improving under Locksley and MSU is normally good to great. I almost feel the B10 would need to realign before Rutgers would have much of a chance.
20. We already have a series lined up with them in the coming years. Edit: Realized I may have misinterpreted your message and you were saying that we scheduled them.
21. I really hope not. That Kentucky game is scheduled to be at home. I can't recall the last time Akron has had a ranked OOC opponent come to Akron to play a game.
22. We're to the halfway mark in the season and Gibson has only thrown 2 passes all season. I can't imagine to many ~21 year olds are eager to transfer places just to ride the bench.
23. My game 6 thoughts is Joe Mo is creating a fun offense that should be one of the best, if not the best in the MAC, in the coming years. I can see how this would be attractive place to play for skilled position players who want an opportunity to showcase their talents. On the defensive side of the ball I suppose the bright side is it can't possibly get any worse...
24. Basketball season can't get here soon enough...
25. I honestly don't know what people expected of this season. Anyone that could look at this roster without wearing their Zips colored lens would have seen this roster was devoid of talent. Nobody was going to turn this team around in 1/2 of a recruiting cycle. 2-3 wins was all that was ever going to be achievable with this roster.
