  1. 20th in Mid-Major Madness. This poll includes the 10, MWC, and C-USA. https://www.midmajormadness.com/2020/1/13/21064518/college-basketball-poll-the-other-top-25-rankings-mid-majors-and-so-many-atlantic-10-teams
  2. I'm surprised to see he left for anything less than a head coaching job.
  3. No, and neither is the AAC, MWC, and C-USA. It's pretty much a coaches poll for mid-majors and those 4 conferences have opted out of participating. I guess they don't like being categorized as "mid-majors". It's particularly funny for C-USA who has taken a nosedive since they lost all their basketball schools to the AAC.
  4. That's last weeks poll for college insiders. A new one should be posted sometime this afternoon/evening. Some teams ahead of us lost last week so I'd expect us to move up some.
  5. The A10 is much improved this year so I'm expecting them to finish 10-8.
  6. Anything the Civic Center currently hosts can either be handled by the JAR or the John S Knight Center.
  7. I think I heard the announcers say LCJ had 12 fouls drawn near the end of the game. Ball State guards were just not quick enough to keep up with him, which led to them being out of position on defense. Personally, for a game that wasn't all that physical I thought their were a lot of fouls called. Granted Akron's 3 main ball handlers (LCJ, Cheese, & Xeyrius) are all terrific foul shooters so a tightly called game helps Akron, but personally I don't like to see games turn into free throw contests. I saw a lot of ticky tack fouls on both sides. Edit: Akron's foul shooting is going to make it challenging for any team to overcome a late game deficit. If we have Banks inbound it we can field a lineup of 4 80%+ ft% shooters, 2 of which are nearly 90%.
  8. Have to give it to the poster who last week said LCJ was in the running for MAC POY. He should be getting his second straight POW honor as he put up a stat line of 22.5 7.5 2.5 this week. I still think Xeyrius is the best player on the team, but LCJ is the motor that gets the offense running.
  9. For some unexplainable reason we seem to always struggle when we have to go to DeKalb.
  10. Xeyrius just said Akron's esports program played a part in him choosing Akron.
  11. Why are we guarding teague at the 3 point line? He's a .250 3p% shooter. Play off of him and dare him to shoot. He's blowing past our bigs on the drive.
  12. You can find a stream here. https://www.reddit.com/r/ncaaBBallStreams/comments/en0d2o/game_thread_akron_vs_ball_st_0900_pm_est/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
  13. Tipoff pushed back to 9:10 because of Buffalo/Miami game ?
  14. I went looking for it earlier. Titanic Hoops had their twitter handle shutdown for what I'm guessing was copyright infringement.
  15. We do seem much more athletic, which should help our chances in Cleveland. It's tough to win 3 games in 3 days when your best player is pushing 300 lbs. I still feel the one weakness this team does have is we don't have a good back to the basket post scorer. It's not that we need it to be a focal part of the offense, but when we're going through a shooting slump and the other team is going on a run, it would be nice to be able to dip the ball down low and get an easy 2 every now and then.
  16. Are you saying some school is going to pay him to come play for them because he's certainly not going to make it in the NBA? If he wants to play in Europe of somewhere playing in Akron won't hinder him. We have tons of players overseas and they don't seem to care where you went to school. Players are paid based off how they perform. If he's transferring it's probably because he either wants to go someplace that has a better grad program for what he wants to go to school for or because he wants to experience an NCAAT tournament run. Playing somewhere closer to home I guess would be another possibility. Personally, I have him penciled in an Akron uniform for next season because he has one year of eligibility remaining. I'll have him there until he says he no longer wants to be here. I can't begin to guess what's going through his head nor know what his priorities are.
  17. Akron has 3 players who are all in the running for 1st team All-MAC (X, Cheese, & LCJ). That doesn't even count Banks who is leading the MAC in 3P% and is one of, if not the best, perimeter defender in the MAC. I doubt we get 3 1st teamers, but I'd expect all 3 to make 1st or 2nd team. Edit: Had Xeyrius not gotten into foul trouble and had to sit a large chunk of the 1st half and the majority of the 2nd, we'd probably have beaten WMU by 25+.
  18. I see Cleveland is hosting an 11 vs. 6 game. It would be fun to play a tournament game there. I doubt Akron climbs that high as that would be above the bubble line, which would probably require Akron going something like 17-1 in MAC play. Odds are even if we were awarded an 11 seed, the committee would probably send us to one of the other sites as I doubt they'd allow a 6 seed to play what would amount to being a road game.
  19. If only the JAR sold alcohol...
  20. The two 13 seeds listed above us both lost to pretty bad teams since that was last updated. We'd be a borderline 12 seed as of today IMO.
  21. It's been a long work week. I need to know who his bartender is.
  22. Akron listed as 4 point favorites.
  23. I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting. We still owe about 20 years on Infocision.
  24. I think it would have been fun to field a better team to contend with Buffalo last year. For years Dambrot complained about how the decks always stacked against us because nobody good would ever come play at the JAR. There was actually for once a team last year in the MAC that would have given us a crack to get up to 2 tournament resume building wins. I heard over the years people saying they wanted Akron to become the Gonzaga of the east. People overlook another WCC that has capitalized off of Gonzaga's success to become one of the best mid-majors in the country. That team would be St. Mary's who used some wins over Gonzaga to help catapult them. Those two teams emerging also helped attract BYU to the conference, which made the conference even better. I'd love to see the MAC become a multi-bid league.
