  1. I actually thought Dawson was posed to have a breakout year. I felt he was going to be able to absorb much of the offensive production we lost with Ali transferring as outside of Castaneda he would of perhaps been our best perimeter shooter. I don't think it's back breaking, just unfortunate
  2. I wouldn't fret too much over game threads or things people say immediately after losses. Generally they're speaking with emotion instead of logic. Most people I've talked to believe Joe will right the ship. He inherited a roster that was bottom 5 FBS in talent. Even with the transfer portal it's going to take some time to build this roster
  3. Funniest thing there is one of the commenters actually thinks BG has a chance of winning the MAC East. It pains me to say this, but Kent is likely the heavy favorites to represent the division. I do think Miami can challenge them though. After those two the division is pretty terrible.
  4. I think LeBron is much older than you realize. He was born in 1984. The Cowboys won 3 Superbowls in the 90s.
  5. I'll be joining you in the bleachers this season. At ~$4/ticket to watch a competitive basketball team it amazes me these don't sell better.
  6. The NCAA doesn't own the media rights. The individual conferences do so you would have to get all the conferences to agree to it.
  7. The problem is there is no one network that owns the right to simulcast all FBS games. The NFL owns RedZone so when they reached a TV deal agreements with Fox/CBS they reserved the right to show live highlights. There is no centralized party to do the same for college football
  8. I'm expecting a close game. I'm going to say 27-24 BG, but this is a game that we definitely can win.
  9. Do they not realize that college football is very much a spoils system? It most likely means they all will be fired too when a more permanent coach gets hired to replace Herm.
  10. What I'm saying is if all G5 programs are getting the same bump in revenue from the expanded playoffs then its not like that gives Akron some new competitive advantage compared to the other G5 as they will be getting that same money too. The P5 will even be getting more so just furthering that gap.
  11. Realistically even winning while helping doesn't solve everything. If it was Akron basketball would have had no trouble filling the JAR for the last ~15 years given that it only seats ~5500. Football is obviously bigger than basketball, but it's going to take a lot to convince people to sit outside on a Wednesday night in November when it's 30 degrees for 4 hours. If we could average a real 15k for a season then I'd say that was a success. By real I mean the university not having to buy tickets to remain FBS complient
  12. I think what also isn't getting brought up is that since these games are often scheduled 5-8 years in advance it's hard to actually know how good some of these teams will be. Like sure if you schedule an Alabama, Ohio State then sure you know going in that's almost certainly going to be a top 10 team. Using Kentucky as an example, we reached an agreement with them in February 2018 so before the 2018 season even started. At the time we made the deal the last time Kentucky was ranked was in 2007 and they had some miserable seasons inbetween, including 2 years of going 2-10. They were the kind of opponent that you would think a good G5 team could upset. Fast forward to now and they're a top 10 team.
  13. If all the schools are getting the same bump in revenue then really none of the programs are going to be getting a bump in revenue. That money is quickly going to get eaten up by coaching staff pay increases all across FBS and other related expenses
  14. This could actually be a game if the Zips weren't in year 0 of a rebuild. Akron will look less over matched compared to their prior two games, but Liberty is far more talented still. I say the Zips lose this game 35-14
  15. BG knocks off Marshall in OT 34-31
  16. I'm hearing the 2025 season. They told them to cancel because the 2nd game of the series would be in 2025 or later
  17. Scheduling 1 FCS, 2 home and home, and 1 money bag game had been the norm for years. It's only in the last 5-10 years or so that scheduling 2-3 money games has started gaining steam at the MAC level. Reality is pretty much all MAC schools were spending and expanding their campuses expecting enrollment to keep growing. Now that it's falling they're all struggling to just get by. As migration shift continues it's only going to keep getting worse. The places that have benefited are places like Georgia, Carolinas, Tennessee, etc as people are moving where the climate is better. This allows conferences like the Sun Belt to expand their budget
  18. They should have just kept Bo Pelini. He was winning 9-10 games every single season with them, which is about the best Nebraska could hope for now. This isn't the 90s anymore.
  19. St. Francis is a pretty mediocre FCS team at that. They last finished a season with a winning record in 2016 and most years hover around 5-6. If our offensive and defensive line gets dominated by them then I'm really concerned how bad it will look when we're facing FBS level competition
  20. A few take aways I had. 1) Why was this game on a Thursday when it wasn't even televised? Why not have it on a Saturday so more students and alumni could attend? 2) The offensive and defensive lines both need lots of work. We were out played on both fronts by an FCS school. 3) I had us winning 4-5 games this year, but after this game I'm going to revise that to 2-3. I'm still on board with Moorhead, but I feel I might have overestimated how fast he'd be able to infuse talent, particularly in the trenches.
  21. I saw the commitment here, but I admittedly haven't watched any tape. He obviously has the size and build I'd like on the roster. I'll wait for @Hilltopperand others opinions once he's on campus on whether or not he's ready to contribute right away or will be redshirted because he's too raw.
  22. I wasn't arguing that it would level the playing field. It might slightly change who is near and at the top. NIL is still relatively new and many schools and boosters haven't gotten too deep in it yet. It will take time for it to play out on which schools will have the largest war chests and which ones won't. By then Saban will be long retired
  23. There is no dispute that coaching is important. I'd say really only Clemson and Ohio State have had anywhere near the talent Alabama has had over the last 5 or so years. Texas A&M actually received the most booster donations over the last 2-3 years. They have more money than you think. Texas Longhorn boosters have already endowed a fund to pay each offensive linemen, regardless of starter or backup, 50k per year. Alabama boosters certainly have money, but they don't have big Texas oil money.
