  1. Ha!!!!! Good ol' Can't State....thanks for finding this ME
  2. It's EAT one little booger you @#$@# piece of #$#$%$$ stupid $#@!#@. Use your %^%$##$## spell check!!!
  3. I think DiLauro was being promised a scholly the last weeks of 2018, but that all dissolved when the change occurred. You show him as non-scholly anyway, but for what it's worth....
  4. Can't argue with any of your thoughts, and I agree on Sayles as #2 big. E-man has regressed to me, but if he was just a little more determined (?) he could battle back. Not bad to have both, since K-Lac is "lacking" still. Banks gets the start for me over Cheese.
  5. YAAAAAAAAYYYYY! Stability....Familiarity....And I know you guys don't agree with me, but I'm glad to have not seen another exodus (for good reason and better stuff, I agree...) from FES/CCF!
  6. Not to get wayyyy off topic,, but in running through the names of the football roster, a team as stated was DII runner-up, isn't it quaint, and isn't it a lesson maybe 32 seasons later to new football coach Arth and staff that there were 89 Ohio natives on the roster, 1 from Germany, 1 from Connecticut, 1 from New York, 1 from Virginia, 1 from West Virginia, and 1 from Maryland. Recruit Ohio Coach Arth!!!!!
  7. Me too....is it the fact that the kicker was named "Embick" coincidentally, or did you also note that the QB of that team (and later color analyst with Frenchy for football broadcasts) was named Bezbatchenko? I was hoping the Crew's Bez had some ties to the Tallmadge Bez's.....Marty B was (and is) a great guy....
  8. Rudy DiDonato....R.I.P. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/ohio/obituary.aspx?n=rudy-didonato&pid=191149851
  9. As 2019 begins and Winter sets in, just thought I'd kill some time and think about what would happen if another team drops out of The MAC as far as Men's soccer is concerned. We kinda dodged a bullet last year when we were able to snag SIU Edwardsville to round out the number to an even 6. But let's say WVU or SIU-E decide the MAC isn't where they want to be, or NIU or BG drop their program...then what? There are 24 DI Conferences out there....which one would be best for the Zips? I ruled out The Western Athletic Conference, The West Coast Conference, The PAC 12, The Ivy League and the Big West as possibilities. That leaves the America East Conference (8 current teams, U Mass Lowell), American Athletic Conference (8 teams, USF, UCF), Atlantic 10 (13 teams), ACC (12 teams), ASUN (7 teams, Florida Gulf Coast), Big East (10 teams), Big South (9 teams, Radford), Big 10 (9 teams), Colonia Athletic (9 teams,, James Madison), Conference USA (8 teams, 2 from the SEC), Horizon League (9 teams), Metro Atlantic (11 teams, Rider), Missouri Valley (7 teams, 1 from Southland Conference), Northeast Conference (9 teams, Robert Morris), Patriot League (10 teams, Lehigh), Southern Conference (7 teams, 1 from Ohio Valley), Summit League (6 teams, 1 from OVC), and The Sun Belt (5 teams, 1 from MEAC). My thoughts are the ACC would not probably add anyone, but The BIG10 might welcome us, wioth an odd number of teams and our familiarity with scheduling them every year on OC. I also think the Atlantic 10 (Dayton, Duquesne, UMass and St. Louis) and American Athletic (UConn, Cincy, Tulsa, Temple and the two FL schools) would be nice fits, from a budget and travel standpoint and might welcome an Akron. Share your thoughts and vote in the Poll above, please....
  10. As 2019 begins and Winter sets in, just thought I'd kill some time and think about what would happen if another team drops out of The MAC as far as Men's soccer is concerned. What Conference would best suit our Zippers? Which would offer us the best opportunities to continue our NCAA tournament success by offering an optimal number of tourney bids/conference? Where would we fit best to give us solid competition to grow on, expose us to other markets and more recruiting (although I'd argue we are a top draw now)? My choices would be Big10, as there are vacancies and we now play a large OC schedule against their teams already; American Athletic Conference with solid teams like Cincy, UConn, SMU, Temple, but we would be the odd team in; and Atlantic 10, which has 13 teams now, with Dayton, VCU and St. Louis to name a few). I took into consideration the ACC probably wouldn't invite us in, and also considerations for travel budget and scheduling.... Share your thoughts, please.....
  11. I agree with Zach on this one. Pluto has become unreadable to me, all he ever tries to do is push his new books. And tell us at all times that he was against picking up this Brown, or this Cav, or this Indian, when they fail to produce. Used to look forward to his articles, now never even click them. Has become Bill Livingston and that's not in a good way....stop shilling for your books!
  12. Add to that all the festivities involved, the organized games like bowling, beach volleyball, eating contests that seem to show up on the telecasts for the week-that-was, and the various charity show-ups for the teams....
  13. I am heartened by the news and source reporting that JE is staying, Me_87 is my go-to on what is facts, and if he reports it's not going to happen, I believe... It's great to read from the posters that people want to help to be proactive and fend off any future "attacks" on our coaching staff. Lots of support here on ZNO for more season ticket sales, donations to "booster" organizations, etc. All good stuff. Also the usual call to encourage the Athletic Department and Larry Williams in particular to do all he can to prop up the program more, to invest in it. I'm too lazy and don't really know where to look, but before we can make intelligent arguments to the AD, I'd like to know some numbers. And I know TennZip, ME_87 and fknbuflobo in particular probably can run these down for me.... What is Embick's total compensation at U of A, how does it compare to what we were paying Caleb, and more importantly, where does it rank vs. the "elite" or top 25 NCAA D1 college soccer coaches? Probably harder to find, but how does our total men's soccer budget compare to the top 25 NCAA programs?, Also, where does our annual, season ticket, or per game attendance rank in the top 25 programs? Also recruiting budget? It would be total conjecture and probably not fair to ask but, has anyone heard from coaches, players (current and past) or parents that the men's program is being "short changed" budget or facility-wise by the U? With these things in mind, it will help push or nudge the school and the AD to put the Zip program at the top of all of those lists to make it a very difficult choice for Jared, or any other future coach, to leave the Zips. But how does that defend against an MLS, USL or European club from coming after our coach with BIG $$? That's what happened with Caleb, and despite all of us hating to see him go, we also knew it was a big and great opportunity for him. I think we'd feel the same for Jared. Now, all that being said, we do have to face a few ugly "facts". These are definitely things I think the AD and Board probably do look at. Despite how fervent of fans we are here, and at Stamford, Wake, Maryland, Indiana, (need I go on?) where does NCAA soccer rank in terms of overall college fan interest vs. basketball and football, or baseball for that matter? Not the U of A, but overall NCAA? And how about media? The NCAA was not even able to get ESPN to show the College Cup on ESPN or ESPN2, and that spoke volumes to me of the NCAA influence on their broadcasters. Would NBCSports or FoxSports been a better choice? They might not have any wiggle room to move away from ESPN. Without advertising $ in even a small form, it's tough to allocate $ to any program. We should push the AD to form a better package with the local AM radio for coverage of all matches, home and away. How many did Frenchy show up at, and he admits he knows little about soccer, so we need a better broadcast crew, so that the casual soccer fan might get "hooked" like Blue and Gold just did. Same with our ESPN3 or ESPN+ contracts. I believe there is an audience (modest) and those funds could be funneled back into the program. And how about a weekly half hour cable or tv program with coach (how about Chad Welker or Brad Bourneval as hosts?) to highlight last week's matches and upcoming matches, generate interest and ad $. Okay, I veered waaay off topic. We've got to look at how little the MAC is in relation to NCAA soccer. 6 teams, 2 of which are not full-time MAC programs. One more team leaving the MAC probably is the death knell for it as a MAC sport, and then we need to make sure the AD looks to get us in a conference that is more competitive and gets 4-5 invites to the Big Dance each year. We've got to look at title 9 as well. And we can rail on and on about how the cost of Infocision and the debt service has on all sports at the U, it is a reality that is not going to change. And also, the arguments about whether we should pay a new football coach or basketball coach what we did or do are wonderful to have, but in reality NCAA basketball and or football has the POTENTIAL, even at lowly Akron, for easily more fans to show up, pay $$ to watch and endorse than NCAA soccer. Sorry for the rambling, not much to do the day before Christmas I guess. I'd love for ME_87,, TennZip, fknbuflobo, malone pioneer, anyone who knows where to get this info, to post it, to help us understand what we're up against. Sorry to push it off on you guys, but hey, that's what they pay you the big bucks for!
  14. Wow....I did not expect to see this thread as I was catching up on Arth and B-ball posts....felt like a blow to the lower gut when I saw the thread title...holding my breath...?
  15. Thanks for this....maybe the ABJ would be willing to treat you the way they use Brad Bourneval for men’s soccer and run his free lance stuff, and ship ol’ George off to an island with the great writer Sir Elton (I don’t mean John) from the Buckeye-centric PD.
  16. I was hopeful for Mounds and Nemec...
  17. Don’t know what you expected...but glad you showed how good of a fan you are by giving up your tix...Geez.....
  18. The Trolling Bookmark! Watch out Illini Zip...Dre can’t STAND to have his opinions questioned despite their obvious trolling qualities being exposed. You are now on the List! I honestly cannot understand any other reason he posts. He hates the city now, referencing how “ run down” and how “racist” it “always was”, of course all since he left. And I cannot honestly think of one post that has ever had a positive spin when it comes to the teams, the coaches (other than the ones he supposedly liked and “we” let them go), the AD, the Board, the Marketing Dept., the SIDS, the fans...so why post, except to troll? Glad you called him out, but WATCH OUT Now.
  19. And we still won the Wagon Wheel! ?.
  20. God no....you are middle aged....I am old...
  21. Pretty sure you are correct. Know of the same contractual language in another Zip coach and also one at KSU...
  22. Dave Pierce, one of the most respected OHSAA and USATF track officials in the Northeast, and a local resident was on the early Zips soccer teams, and tells the stories fondly. The first home field for Akron soccer was the outfield for the Firestone Stadium. If you're familiar with the site, there's a wall in left field that runs the entire length of the complex and the matches were played in that direction, and Dave said the hill above the wall was packed with fans when they would play home matches, and that Stu would trot down the wall shaking fans hands....
  23. I don't see that happening. Kosar has never been an Akron guy. No history with the program, the U, the coaches up till now. And I don't see the class of 2019 and upwards being that overall knowledgable about Bernie, nor care. These kids didn't grow up watching him, just hearing Pops and Grandpops talking about him. Maybe raise awareness to donors, but not to recruits and their families. Just my opinion, Lee...
  24. Evidently he doesn't mind the average snowfall and mean temps of NEO in the winter....versus FLA???
  25. Cykron....we have a history of doing this sorta thing, put the ex in a capacity that interacts with community and donors, maybe a few recruits, but for the most part staying away from the program. Gerry Faust did it, is still doing it. We even had Tressel "teaching" a class after he left OSU and before he became Prez of YSU...
