I agree... For all the talk of the Zips having a week schedule, Winthrop stands out as a pretty good team and i did not expect us to win.... we should be fine.

I disagree.Frye is only as good as he is running for his life in Cleveland, because he was good at running for his life in Akron. First, Cleveland needs a good offensive line. Second, Charlie has done a good job of adjusting to the speed of the NFL.It always takes time to devlop a quarterback in the nfl, especially w/ a weak line. Show me rookie phenom, Rothle.., Brady; and i'll show you a quarterback surrounded by a good line and teammates that are willing to do the small stuff to make things happen. Look back in time...... Kosars diminshing skill couild be directly related to a weaker offensive line and injuries to his supporting cast. Frye is a good quarterback in the mold of Brady and Rothle... There is a reason the Pats and Steals are good year in year out. They don't rely on one overpaid superstar, who tends to do more harm than good (81?). Charlie has progressed nicely. Benching him for a rookie, another unproven Quarterback, or someone unfamiliar w/ the system would be foolish.

Dale Earnhardt once told Jeff Gordon to ignore the boo's. It is when they ignore you (Buffalo, etc.) that you should start worrying. Did i just quote NASCAR??? 2006

If you would have told me this earlier....

I think all of Akron loved Dennison. There was a huge backlash when he was let go for Faust that still lingers to this day. I think it was at that point that the team lost its' identity w/ the community, and we are just now getting it back.To the ol' JD and the new JD!go ZIPS

Embarrassing????? 1) This was not a Thurday night game of undefeateds' #3 and #15.2) Those weren't Jordans Bulls.3) Did u see Utep vs UAB friday night??? On ESPN2???? A huge empty stadium even w/ the endzone blocked off. Birmingham attracted more fans to their XFL games 4) Percent capacity for 2006 prior to this week: Akron 53.8%, UAB 30.9%.It is what it is, but remeber the Faust era when 2,000/game was the norm. It will ALL take time to build.

Must this topic go on FOREVER??????? The rules have changed twice.Originally you had to average 15,000 in paid attendance. Akron wqas the first school to move up to D1a and the city of Akron garunteed attendance by purchasing enough tickets to meet the quota. Problem. Some schools got lazy and relied upon this. Akron could have possibly been guilty in that as well.Rules were changed to butts in seats to counteract this trend at the lower levels of D1a. It worked and renewed efforts to increase attendance.Problem..... See thanksgiving day game 2005.Rule change back. Rules were once again amended to state that it was paid attendance. NO i repeat NO D1a school will have a problem meeting this requirement.+

You're thinking of the Interbelt Club

Ahhh yes, I miss the Dennisson era too. JD is building us back to that point but it will take some time, and a new stadium to help (re)build our fan base wont hurt either. I was really impressed w/ the student section at the NT game, i fondly remember being one of 10, yes 10 students who showed up for a game in the Faust era. I also believe the Can't loss could have been a good thing. It keeps our new found (and deserved) ego in check (wake up call??) and reved up THE rivalry for the first time in years. Who knows, maybe this year will spark an actual Cant fan base , and i agree that we have a lot of new players gaining new skills in the process ala Can't State2005. The rest of the year is a toss up but i am confident that JD will make the right choices towards building a good team for the long run, not sacraficing everything to win now. The Can't game was an off day, CMich was reality, and NCSU is things to come Rest of the season: Cincy is a toss up and the NMich Browncows are a lot better than any of us realize. The rest of the games are winnable, but loseable too. In the end i still see us w/ a winning record and being bowl eligible. Now actually making a bowl well................ win or lose
-
I guess the real question is Can't really that good or are the MiamiO's and Big Girl State Univ that bad this year. How this game turns out win or lose will tell us a lot about the rest of our season. Here's to a first half blowout Go ZIPS

Thanks Cowtown,Glad you enjoyed your visit. Back in the Faust days, i never (let me repeat that) NEVER thought i'd see the day where Akron would take its' foot off the gas because we were winning. Yes, the atmosphere ROCKED! our band has come a long way as well. If they keep it up more fans/students will return! All in all an good game, and i enjoyed seeing the MEAN GREEN. Would love to play you guys again when you are in bowl form! Best of Luck in the Sun Belt.

CAPn' I'm a ZIP fan living in Carolina nd all my NCState friends are either to busy or too afraid to attend the game. How can i find you and fellow members of the ZipsNation?BTW these puppies are ripe for the picking. To quote a few NCState fans "Who's Akron?" Gonna be a good one!For anyone attending. Look for Mitches Tavern after the game on Hillsborough St. accross from the NCState clock tower. This is the tavern where the fight scene in "Bull Durham" took place.

Mario Williams.Yeah, He went 1st last year, and a lot of Pack players were drafted. But they still struggled to a just better that 500 record last year????? I think that says a lot more, and it is the main source of fan frustration here in raleigh. Amato is ON the "hot seat"!

Acme Stadium! Thats even better than the RUBBER Bowl!

I was very warmly greeted by PSU fans in 2004, and enjoyed the game. My only complaint was the incessant playing of their fight song throughout State College. As for their treatment of OSU fans, a number of them expressed dissapointment on how they have been treated in Cowlumbus in the past and chose not to return. Truth be told, OSU fans are not known for being sportsman like or poilte. There is a great college football atmosphere at OSU but not if you are in the visitors section. A a very ironic tradgedy really and we'd do well to avoid that in our own house.
