Is anyone familiar with how the athletic department budget works? It seems that at most big schools the football department helps support other sports. At Akron the ticket sales obviously don’t help much but I’m curious about the big paydays that they receive against Ohio State, Tennessee, etc. Does the football team keep this money or does it all get absorbed into the entire athletic budget? Thanks, I’ll hang up and listen.

This kid was at Alabama his first year then transferred to UConn for a year and now is in the portal again. I wish someone could explain how the portal really works. On paper you’re only allowed one transfer until you graduate. There are obviously a lot of exceptions, just wish I could understand how those exceptions are granted.

Agree but pretty much impossible to enforce. I think it’s pretty much understood that many have their destination locked up, or at least narrowed down, before they even enter the portal. I may be wrong, but I think it’s not ok for the player to have contact with another school before entering the portal but there are no rules against a parent or guardian reaching out. Definitely a loop hole

No idea about this kid specifically but people have to realize that the majority of kids…not all…that hit the portal are told to look elsewhere by the coaching staff. This isn’t just at Akron, but everywhere across the country kids are having their year end exit interviews with their coaches. It’s a massive “trade in” time for coaching staffs. If they feel they are replaceable they tell them to move on. The portal has made college football an even more ruthless business than it was previously.
