I have heard that most coaches are telling kids if you go in, you’re gone, they won’t have you back. They can’t sit there waiting for the kid to get in the portal and weigh his offers, they have to aggressively go out and fill that spot. If coaches allowed that you’d have the whole team out there testing the waters. It would be even more chaos that it already is!

The athletic dept is caught in a whirlpool that they can’t get out of. I think they truly do want to improve the football program but they are so desperate for the money to keep the entire athletic department afloat that they can’t resist the big payday games. Vicious cycle
-
I have also heard rumblings that this is going happen…

Correct me if I’m wrong but the only position groups that don’t have a portal entry are QB and TE? Does anyone know for sure if Tahj and Finley are coming back? A little surprised that one of the TE’s didn’t hit the portal but glad they didn’t.

Basically, most/all D1 football programs have a “training table” for their teams. A training table provides better food and nutrition vs just the standard cafeteria food that the student body gets. It’s pretty important for kids that need to gain weight or maintain a certain weight level. Akron got rid of their in a budget cut earlier this year.

Jayvin James has gotten offers from Maryland, Georgia State, USF, and Cincinnati. He’s off to a good start. Looks like he’s gonna get his training table

I agree 100%, they need to do what’s best for them, and in this new, ever changing world of college football most kids will likely make a move at some point in their playing career. Having said that, the drama in some of these announcements seems a little over the top and self absorbed.

I bet 99% of these guys have never once in their life uttered the words “with that being said”. It’s also amazing how much God is involved in portal decisions.

I don’t think these have been noted on here yet. Here’s three more, the line at the exit is getting longer.

I would agree about football being more of an injury risk and playing 15 games is too much but it’s not like the OHSAA is swimming in money and getting rich off football playoff games. From what I heard they are just trying to stay afloat - sounds like Akron’s athletic dept -

In Indiana every team makes the playoffs. Why don’t people complain about basketball, baseball or soccer? Every team makes the playoffs in those sports too. -
Surprised that he was making that much at OU but it sounds like he’ll probably be making about $1 million at Charlotte - probably a big enough raise to make the move
-
That’s a very surprising move.

Maybe the coaching staff told him it might be a good idea to hit the portal?
-
Heard Chuck Martin is a candidate for the Purdue job. He’s done really well at Miami but that would be a great move for him.

I wouldn’t say it’s common but it’s not totally uncommon either. I think it obviously depends on the player. If it’s someone leaving that they don’t really care if they lose then they would not save that scholarship for them. If it’s someone they really want and do not want to lose then I’m sure they would welcome them back. Having said that, once they enter the portal, they are surrendering that scholarship.

Based on their Twitter accounts it looks like none of the bigger three portal guys (James, Kellen, and Nunally) have received any offers yet. It’s still early, but technically these guys could still come back to Akron if they don’t get the offers they are looking for.
-
Question: if guys aren’t even technically in the portal yet (until Dec 9) how are they receiving offers? Amd how are schools giving offers?
-
Actually more than three have hit the portal. I get your point, but this isn’t just an Akron thing. Every team will have several kids hit the portal - it’s the new world of college football.
-
And none of that revenue will go to the football program. They will still eat the standard cafeteria food, have limited resources, and practice in the dark indoor facility with flashlights.
-
This has to be so incredibly frustrating for coaches.
-
Glad you mentioned that. Do you know the new rule and can you explain it? I always thought it was 85 scholarships and 105 roster limit. Are some schools now going to 105 scholarships? If so, what is the new roster limit?

Great info…the major wildcard here is the portal. The minute some kids have some success (whether real or imagined) they want to set off for greener pastures. Sometimes it pays off but sometimes it blows up in their face. I assume there will be some very tough meetings this week between players and coaches. Some players will hit the road on their own and many will be told to hit the road. Buckle up, I think it’s going to be a crazy portal December.
