  1. Cat you think that is good, bad, or indifferent? I don't know what to make of the stats. I couldn't really find much on him. I saw that he was at three different schools each for a year school for a year year before that. Texas-Permian Basin: Played in six games in 2024, recording 11 tackles, a sack, and four tackles for loss. Dodge City (Kan.) CC: In 2023, earned All-KJCCC Second Team honors as a defensive lineman…Recorded 23 tackles with one sack and four tackles for loss. Independence (Kan.) CC: Spent one year with the Pirates. Size wise he is a large man.
  2. probably doesn't mean anything for football program but ...
  3. I'm excited... I have heard from other coaches outside of Akron that he is a great coach, his players love him and he is a great teacher of the game... Coaching break down from Wikipedia if you are interested .... Garrett Mack... Garrett Mack began his college coaching career as a student assistant at Baldwin Wallace University in the spring of 2013, After gaining head coaching experience at Oberlin High School, Mack transitioned to college assistant roles focused on defensive development. In 2017 and 2019, Mack served as the linebackers coach at Oberlin College, where he emphasized player technique and game preparation for the defensive unit. During the 2017 season, he mentored Von Wooding, who led the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) in tackles with 101, earning all-conference honors and highlighting Mack's impact on individual linebacker performance. Over his two seasons at Oberlin, Mack coached three All-NCAC players, contributing to the team's defensive efforts in a competitive conference environment. In 2018 when he joined Baldwin Wallace University as the wide receivers coach and strength and conditioning coordinator, shifting focus to offensive skill positions while maintaining involvement in overall player conditioning to support team defenses indirectly through improved athleticism. From 2020 to 2021, Mack advanced to Notre Dame College (Ohio) as an assistant coach, serving as tight ends coach in 2020 during a 5–0 undefeated season and then as defensive line coach, run game coordinator, and recruiting coordinator in 2021, marking a progression toward specialized defensive front responsibilities in NCAA Division II. In this position, he developed the Falcons' defensive line and contributed to the team's success, including an 11–2 overall record and a No. 9 ranking in the final AFCA Division II poll that year. Garrett Mack was named the fifth head coach in Notre Dame College football program history on February 3, 2022. In his inaugural 2022 season, Mack implemented a philosophy centered on mindfulness and present-focused execution, encapsulated in the team slogan "Only now exists," which encouraged players to prioritize immediate preparation over past achievements. The Falcons compiled a 9–3 overall record, including a dominant 9–1 mark in MEC play that clinched the program's first outright conference championship since 2019. Key to the success was a stout defense under Mack's influence, which led NCAA Division II with six defensive touchdowns and restricted opponents to an 86.73 passing efficiency rating. Garrett Mack joined Duquesne University as the defensive line coach ahead of the 2024 football season, marking his return to an assistant coaching role after serving as head coach at Notre Dame College following the institution's closure in early 2024. In this position, Mack oversees the development of the defensive line unit, integrating defensive schemes tailored to the team's needs, and providing mentorship to players in technique and game preparation. During his inaugural season at Duquesne in 2024, Mack's coaching contributed to significant improvements in the defensive line's performance, with the unit recording 27 sacks—17 of which came in conference play, ranking second in the Northeast Conference (NEC)—while forcing four fumbles and recovering three. He guided three defensive linemen to all-conference honors: A.J. Ackerman and Jack Dunkley earned first-team selections, and Jason Patterson received second-team recognition. Dunkley's standout season included 12.5 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks, tying for the NEC lead and ranking 12th nationally in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in sacks per game. These efforts helped Duquesne achieve an 8-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in NEC play, sharing the conference regular-season title, while establishing the top-ranked defenses in the NEC for red-zone efficiency, first downs allowed, and third-down conversions. In 2025, Mack has expanded his responsibilities to include recruiting coordinator and special teams coordinator, building on his prior experience in these areas from earlier coaching stops.
  4. I'm can admit that I do not know the number game and I do not pretend to understand how the system works. But if Google is correct, and I know the internet is NEVER wrong, I just inquired if Akron university university opt into the 20 million dollar revenue sharing like other division one colleges? And this was the reply: Yes, the University of Akron (UA) opted into the NCAA settlement to participate in revenue sharing with athletes. As of July 2025, the Zips announced their commitment to this structure, which enables them to directly compensate student-athletes for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL) through a new Competitive Excellence Fund. Akron Beacon Journal +1 So if Google is correct, why is there NO money for football? I understand the Basketball team getting the large portion because of their success. But there should be SOME money for the football team... The players get 91$ a month, they didn't get their winter coats until the end of January and that was the only gear the returning players got. Obviously, I know the scholarship players get their education so you don't have to make that argument... I'm just pointing out that the players that come here from JUCO colleges say Akron is just like going to another JUCO college. I would love to see Akron build a winning program and for players to WANT to stay here but to use Kreed's Pirate's analogy, Akron is nothing more than a minor league farm club team. A player comes here with only the hopes of getting on the field and getting some film to move on. Where is the 20 million at? It is in the football team or the coaching staff...
  5. I bet Akron is right behind them !!!
  6. This is the "Google" write up about the college that Buchanan came from: The Western Mustangs football team competes in Ontario University Athletics (OUA), which is part of the U Sports organization in Canada, not the NCAA. They play at the highest level of Canadian university football (formerly known as CIAU). Wikipedia Conference: OUA (Ontario University Athletics) National Organization: U Sports Location: London, Ontario, Canada They are historically one of the most successful programs in Canadian university football. I don't know anything about the level of competition he faced but to compare: Buchanan 6'1 245 lbs in 11 games 30 solo tackles 34 assisted Cooper 6'2 225 lbs in 11 games 27 solo tackles 39 assisted Summers 6' 225 lbs in 10 games 24 solo tackles 30 assisted Can't really complain about Tibs success with LBs though..
  7. Not exactly a "Portal Departure" but Defensive Line coach Leonard has departed for Marshall university. I don't know if they have named a new d line coach yet or not but I don't certain players are going to be getting 700 snaps this upcoming season
  8. any Zips from last year doing the combine next week??? Dewalt is the only I remember mentioning that something about draft eligible? It would fun to watch if there was anyone
  9. @zipsfb posted on Instagram today. A picture of football players added to the zip's team and said that there are 26 players added to the new spring roster doesn't say if they are scholarship players only or if it includes walk on players, but it does say that there are 26 new players added to the team.
  10. so ridley and duncan played together at pasadena community college in 24. i don't know about snaps comparison but here are their stats.... duncan from his last year there in 24 and ridley in 25 Duncan 6'2 220 Ridley 6'3 260 10 solo. 32 solo 5 assisted 15. assisted 4 sacks. 1.5 sacks 1 fumble rec. 1 fumble rec both played 10 games.
  11. I'm guessing now that school is started and a couple weeks in that we will not be getting any college age commits until the end of the semester right? nobody would be able to start school this late i don't think? I could see getting some very late high school senior commits but it wouldn't make sense to get to get any commits from anyone right now in the portal that could not attend college or am I way off on this thinking? I remember last year laventure, duncan, and brown came at the beginning of june so i am kind of expecting the same. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing cause it will give the returning freshman the whole semester to get their feet wet and see what the have before any new blood comes in.
  12. yeah you might be right. I did not catch that about the offer to play part.
  13. He posted this the exact same day???? 100% committed? The two posts are back to back???
  14. new tight end, Wyatt Hook, is on campus so both of the new guys are here. That should pretty much complete the offense. hopefully they get that chemistry rolling right away...
  15. josiah Graham most likely played for leonard at monmouth or they probably have connections there from when leonard coached there but Graham has offers at Troy, James Madison, and Hawaii mcGowan committed to Louisiana Monroe on January 18 according to 247. Byndon and Ridley are similar in size armstrong is listed at 6'6 and one site has him at 260 and one site has him at 280. If i read correctly it said something about him playing tight end in 23 or 24 so maybe he is athletic also?
  16. that's great for McManus. He was very well liked by the players. JRod really knows his stuff. I have never met him but the way his players transferred this year to Programs is a heck of a recruiting platform...
