  1. I hope he enjoys Virginia...the Shenendoah area is very nice.
  2. That end zone berm grass has grown out quite nicely after only less than a year..
  3. Nice. IIRC, I-AA Illinois State beat us in Akron, Ohio in that Acme-Zip game and that is when I officially gave up on Faust.
  4. That makes more sense. There's nothing "east" or "Pacific" about those schools. Texas & Oklahoma are certainly capable of anchoring their own conference. I won't be surprised if Nebraska misses the natural rivalries and comes back someday either.
  5. Atlantic-East and Mountain-Prairie conferences: http://gazetteonline.com/blogs/docs-office...nt-bcs-not-ncaa
  6. I suppose anything is possible. But that seems pretty outlandish at this point. Big 10 presidents were pissed after they added Nebraska. They felt their academics were too weak. Sorry, but WVU doesn't bring the academics to the table. I didn't know the commissioner and AD's had that much authority to override the presidents...I would have thought it was the other way around.
  7. Actually both schools are about 300 miles closer to places like cincinnati, pitt, and west virginia than current member South Florida. For some of the more northerly members of the big east they are comparable and also provide better competition than south florida. USF fans can't even pile in the car for a 1-1.5 day conference road game trip and I doubt if the teams can bus/van very often. I'm sure USF would jump at the chance to join the ACC to be in a closer league. If the remaining B12 merges w/the BE at least they could form a western division among themselves along w/Cinci & Louisville which would "only" be about 650 miles distant. What's kind of funny is most of the BCS conferences screwed themselves name-wise by including the area or number of members. CUSA got it right...maximum flexibility! New conferences would be wise to learn the lesson.
  8. I think you have to look at the facilities upgrades and the fact that the past 2 AD's have been hired away and are successful in their new jobs. There is commitment from on high. Football blew up but we don't have the Rubber Bowl any more to hamper a quick recovery, given the right coach. Some schools are dropping football or considering downscaling; at least we're not having that conversation. We also have a new gem in women's tennis. If we have to suck up to bigger donors to take the next step (e.g. arena) then we'll just have to tailgate a little further out. We've come a long way overall.
  9. I just can't see Kansas & k-state in the Big East. Except for each other, every conference game would be a 1000-1500 mile trip. Times how many sports? That's hard on the students and the budget.

  11. I can see your logic here. If the conferences all went super-sized and the 'B10' took several from the BE, the BE wouldn't be able to get enough others within a reasonable distance to form a super-BE for football. Somehow, I see Cinci & Louisville remaining together in the same league, whatever it might be. Since the Sunbelt is left shorthanded, the MAC could join with them for a 24-team super-super-conference with North Div. v. South Div. "Civil War" championships. And it would help us with early-season baseball and late-season soccer scheduling, weather-wise.
  12. http://www.gozips.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB..._medium=twitter Just curious if anyone caught this and what KD had to say that was interesting, if anything..

  17. CWRU and Purdue didn't make the cut but something tells me they probably didn't bring their A teams to the contest..
  18. no way you posted this on a 5 and half year old thread haha It's what I got when I searched this Smack forum for Redhawks. ZN.o stores threads for a long time... But from the same elite university.
  19. I concur. .500 would seem to be our ceiling during transition/rebuilding, so probably just under that.
  20. http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/93674219.html How many Redhawks does it take to screw up a nice facility? One sorority's-worth, apparently..
  21. And "noone" is not a word. Try "no one". (notice my rebellious placement of the period)
  22. I never liked that rule so I often ignore that one
  23. RIP, Dr. G. Didn't realize he was a pro. musician and graduate of U@Buffalo. Nice to have the service on campus at Guzzetta Hall. He was still pres. when I started @ UA.
