  1. Did I do that?! Er, I mean, Good catch...you passed the test!
  2. Along these lines, it would be: Correct - "The Zips scored a touchdown." But how about this one, English majors... "The Zips' new fieldhouse." You put the possessive apostrophe after "Zips," correct? You got it. People often want to use an apostrophe to form a plural, as in "The Zip's scored a touchdown". Major no-no
  3. it's = it is. E.g. "It's supposed to rain tomorrow" ("It is supposed to rain tomorrow") its (possessive); E.g. "The team gave its best effort on the field"
  4. Alumni (plural): a group of graduates. Correct: "The Class of 2010 are now alumni of the University of Akron"; Incorrect: "I am an alumni of the U of A". Alumnus (singular): a male graduate; E.g. "Keith Dambrot is a U of A alumnus" Alumna: (singular): a female graduate..."she is an alumna of the U of A" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alumnus "Alumni" (a plural form) is often incorrectly used as a singular form for both genders; for example, "I am an alumni of Duke University," as opposed to "I am an alumnus/alumna of Duke University." This usage is erroneous in formal or historic usage. The prevalence of this usage is likely due to an ignorance of Latin grammar and the fact that printed documents and university merchandise almost always use the plural form of the word.
  5. We don't call him iCoach for nothing !
  6. Oh, good one. Ben Zemanski?(somewhere in Poland...) Zemanski Jaworski...yeah, probably somewhere. "Hey Zemmie, how you doin?"
  7. It really is misguided that he would do this "investigation" on university presidents and not large corporation executives. If the private sector executives only made what Proenza makes, the excess could do a lot of good in the world.
  8. Professor John Green of the UA Bliss Institute is the preeminent authority on religion and politics; I see him quoted in the news allot and he also now holds a distinguished position with one of the political think tanks in Washington.
  9. I choose to ignore the history of Zips football...things are much easier that way. This is the first season of the rest of my Zip-fan life and i.coach is taking us to the Promised Land !
  10. I love the bread factory... On those cold winter days when the wind is coming out of the north (inevitably also the days when we get tons of snow), all you can smell is the fresh bread all over north campus. http://www.ohio.com/news/91971564.html Buy it up. It's in a perfect location for the university, for any number of things. I like how they held off in the hopes of keeping jobs downtown, but that time is over. Make the move, UA. Buy it now, and figure out what to put on it later. You said it...any number of things. Maybe they could put the new Ed. building there instead and keep the Memorial Hall site open as adjacent green space to LJF. Or we could use some new tennis courts. Or more parking. Or another dorm (near Quaker Square and the Titanium Bridge). Or move Ayer & Zook down there Or wait until we have CHHS as well and build something really big. Why is it something tells me when it's all said and done there will be another polymer science complex there?

  16. Interesting. Seems like the campus is coming under pressure to grow more vertically (i.e. high-rise dorms). At the same time, I wish all the new dorm space could allow the aging Bulger to be retired. What's the timetable on Memorial Hall? They haven't taken it out yet, have they?
