  1. Texas fans would be hard pressed to travel to many/any league road games. Are the teams going to want to travel that much and play in colder weather? Will potential TX recruits find that scenario attractive? I'd be very surprised if UT goes for that.
  2. Does anyone know if they are planning on a special teams coordinater?I'd love for the Zips to dip into their bottomless pit of money and get one. In reality, there is not bottomless pit of money and they can barely afford to pay competitive salaries to their head coach let alone their assistants. There will be no special team coordinator.Special Teams Coach = $13.99 @ book storeChapter 1: Don't catch a punt on the 5 yard line. Let it bounce into the endzone for a touchback. Then you get to start your drive on the 20 yard line instead of the 5.Appendix 1A: Field position is important, especially if you can't punt effectively.Chapter 2: How to punt effectively.
  3. http://www.mercurynews.com/breaking-news/c...?nclick_check=1Overall, Cribbs is fifth in the league in kick returns at an average of 27.8 yards. He is second in punt returns at 13.3, behind only the New York Giants Domenik Hixon's 15.1. (Can't/Akron story line missed by writer)... Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski (knees) was among those who missed practice. Now there's no doubt about Charlie Frye starting Sunday.
  4. What a gracious invite. Welcome aboard, Penguiroo !
  5. I'm pleasantly shocked they're updating it in practically real time. 5 GA's(?)...that will help keep the costs down. Is it good to hire unit coaches before the coordinator? I guess RI is being very selective about a DC.Its possible that some of the hires won't be announced until the bowl season is over.True. The hiring of assistants hasn't seemed as speedy as the OP suggests.

  8. http://www.gozips.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB...TCLID=204860742AKRON - The University of Akron wants your help to name the All-Akron team for the past decade (Jan. 2000 - Dec. 2009). After nominations are taken, Zip fans will help name the All-Akron Team of the Decade. These All-Akron teams - male and female - will not be for each sport, rather picking the 10-15 best male and female UA student-athletes over the last 10 years (pending the number of qualified nominees received). For example, a nomination form (which should include at least 5 and no more than 10 student-athletes per gender) could look like this:Male:Dwight Smith (Football, All-American) 2000Charlie Frye (Football, Akron's All-time leading passer) 2001-04John Russell (Track & Field, five-time All-American) 2003-06Romeo Travis (Basketball, MAC Player of the Year, UA career leader in blocked shots) 2004-07Steve Zakuani (Soccer, National Player of the Year) 2007-08Etc...Female:Christi Smith (Track & Field, NCAA Champion) 2000Beata Rudzinska (Cross Country/Track & Field, 4-time UA Female Athlete of the Year) 2003-06Danielle Beland (Swimming & Diving, 4-time MAC Champion) 2004-07Stevi Large (Track & Field, NCAA Champion) 2006-09Jenna Compton (Rifle, NCAA Champion) 2009Etc....

  10. Kind of shocking to see another football program get dropped, even if it's a FCS/Hofstra. Their Colonial conference mates Northeastern did the same a couple weeks ago. Maybe a few good players will trickle up to the MAC with fewer FCS choices.See http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/...03_hofstra.html That could apply to a lot of schools.I don't know what the Colonial plans to do about the football vacancies.North New Hampshire 6-2 10-3 Maine 4-4 5-6 Hofstra 3-5 5-6 Massachusetts 3-5 5-6 Northeastern 3-5 3-8 Rhode Island 0-8 1-10 South Villanova 7-1 14-1 Richmond 7-1 11-2 William & Mary 6-2 11-3 Delaware 4-4 6-5 James Madison 4-4 6-5 Towson
  11. I consider it a good thing. We wouldn't be as good as we are if we didn't have players who are good enough to advance early to the next level...if that made sense. And CP can recruit good enough new talent to minimize the loss.
  12. Raiders win !! Way to go Charlie !
  13. "FootballScoop Staff: Buffalo has a coach; and it opens up a lot of possibilities throughout the country. www.FootballScoop.com"What are the "lot of possibilities throughout the country"?
  14. The Missouri fanbase is split about 50/50 on joining the Big Ten. Check their message boards.Mizzou would seriously consider making the jump..http://www.kansascity.com/159/story/163396...nk=omni_popular
  15. FootballScoop.com:Akron: We hear North Dakota State linebackers coach Charlie Camp will join the staff at Akron.
  16. See...they DO listen to us !
  17. FootballScoop.com:Akron: FootballScoop has learned that Akron head coach Rob Ianello has hired John Latina as offensive coordinator. Latina previously served as the assistant head coach for offense / offensive line coach at Notre Dame. Before that, he served as the offensive coordinator / offensive line coach at Ole Miss.Any more Notre Damers and we're going to need a Touchdown Zippy painted on the south side of the fieldhouse..

  20. For most of us, this was our first up close and personal experience with the tiebreak system. Once you've been through it firsthand (win or lose), you're better able to form an opinion. I liked the analogy someone gave of settling a tie basketball game by lining up for free throws, or playing home run derby to decide a tie baseball game. It's fair enough if that's the rules, but it's not what the game is about. Because soccer is usually low-scoring (or no-scoring), it could take a lot of OT to finish; that's why there should be some kind of rule adjustments in OT. I think if you took a poll of fans (other than Akron and UVA) about 95% would be in favor of modified-OT rather than penalty kicks.
  21. I don't know if we played to our full potential at C.C. or not (they kept talking about our forwards slowing down in the "red zone") but I'm convinced that overall we're not much better and not much worse than those top ACC teams, and they have a lot going for them. We should try to schedule some games with them during regular season to prepare for the tourney. The experience this year will help a lot if (when) we get back. Caleb just needs to keep doing what he's doing and it will come. Yeah, it sucks to wait another year...all we can do now is focus on winning the MAC in hoops.
  22. I disagree...I think that is the perfect solution.
  23. I agree. In championship games, they should play until someone scores. There just seems to be something wrong with a PK ending.Soccer will never be widely accepted in the United States. It just isn't an exciting sport to watch. Baseball has a more exciting pace. Great season Zips! The future looks good! They should also keep removing a man from each team for each OT played to open things up. With 2 even teams like that, you can't organize anything at the top of the box without drawing a crowd. I appreciate the skill and endurance of the players but it was some brutal spectating. What few shots there were were either off target or easily blocked. Still would have been nice to bring a home though. I think American football's place is safe for a long, long time regardless of immigration.
  24. New hoops arena and a winning football program, for starters...
  25. Mike Thomas, you're on the clock...who's it gonna be?FootballScoop:Cincinnati: A report out of Houston is saying that UC has asked for permission to talk with Kevin Sumlin.DON'T LET A FORMER AKRON AD TAKE YOUR COACH, MACK !! Sumlin spurns the marauding Mike Thomas to stick with Mack. Way to go, Mack!
