  1. What arguments do you have for him to be any higher? If Frye played for the Colts, he would have better passing stats, more wins, and get to the playoffs more often so by SI's criteria that means he'd be ranked at least near the middle of the pack. If Manning played for the Browns, he would have worse stats and fewer wins so that means he's a mediocre QB, right? These are team rankings more so than individual QB rankings.
  2. Worthless rankings. No consideration given to the team they play on, receivers, OL, running game, etc. Take it for what it's worth...nothing. SI is a joke for sponsoring this tripe. As for how I arrived at my picks, other than with a divining rod, I used a few measuring sticks. I value wins from my quarterback, and that helped Manning and Brady, the leaders in victories over the last two years. I value postseason success, and their seven combined wins over the past two years is significant. Completion percentage and yards-per-attempt are the two passing stats I value the most because they tell you how often a quarterback succeeds in efficiently moving the chains through the air. Finally, intangibles. Brady led all passers with a 10 on a 10-point scale, because he's a coach, an offseason facilitator, a free-agent recruiter -- and he does it while retaining respect from the guys he often has to lean on hard.
  3. Manny wanted to locate near the U. to have lots of business, now the U. is expanding and he will have to relocate...that was the business decision/risk he chose to take. He needs to realize his business will only get better with the new stadium and Spicertown redevelopment but he'll have to make a change like all of us have to from time to time. The U. should help him out if they know of any good alternative properties -- any realtor would be more than glad to help with that too. If he wants to stay and fight progress and state law that's his perogative too but it will be very expensive. Worst case is he will get fair market appraised value plus plenty of free advertising through e/d and reopen elsewhere. Manny will be fine, far from "getting out with nothing".
  4. "I'd like to be part of the University. I've been on the Zip Strip for 25 years and I don't think it's fair for me to get out with nothing now just for somebody else to come in and do what they have to do," said business owner Manuel Nemer. Can someone tell me what he means by "get out with nothing" and "someone else to come in and do what they have to do"? I don't understand his lingo.
  5. It's a lot of dough ... I don't know how much they'll have to do to convert it for dorm use or how much more that will add to the 22.7. It's expensive to build new dorms too though. Does anyone know how many shops are still running at QS? Would UA have to wait til those leases run out to take over? Probably couldn't be ready until the 08-09 school year whereas the stadium site dorms should be gone shortly. It will be quite a (uphill) hike from QS to the east end of campus. I don't think there's a contiguous connection to the rest of campus but it's pretty close. They should keep the Quaker name for the new dorm as an Akron historical link rather than rename it "Joe Blow Hall".
  6. Good research, zipboy. I think we would get the most benefit/exposure from playing 1) the good programs in Ohio and neighboring states 2) any big name school in the eastern US, regardless of hoops strength3) good programs with strong academic reputationsOf the names in your lists, my preferences would be:ButlerBucknellGeorge WashingtonUMassMississippiPennWest KyWright StateTempleRichmondRutgersAuburnUABTulsaSt JoesNorthwesternAnother good topic for study might be the effect of a spiffy new arena, for "midmajors" who have built one, on their attendance and strength of home scheduling. Examples: St. Louis University, DePaul, NIU, St. Joe's.
  7. I like Rosscoe_9's prediction
  8. This should put us close to Title IX parity...if you add up the women-only sports (volleyball-tennis-swimming-golf) it comes close to a football team. I would hate to see any other sports get axed.Womens golf should help us get more points toward the MAC female all-sports standings where we're still finishing near the bottom. Let's hope they can bring in a good coach and some good recruits for a fast start to the program.
  9. UCF's stadium cost (according to the video) is $55M, about the same as our budget. If you want a 45,000 seat bowl, there will probably be a lot of aluminum involved. My conspiracy theory is that the admin is being quiet about announcements & construction because there are a lot of critics that would raise a big fuss about state tax money being spent at a time when the local economy is slow, people have lost jobs, etc. And a lot of the faculty would rather see the money go toward academics (pay raises for themselves) than to athletics. I prefer the optimistic view that it will be a major asset for economic development of the city, downtown, university park, UA, and also bring tax revenue back to the state.
  10. Please be a bowl... Please be a bowl... Please be a bowl...You mean like this? http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/coll...-mult-headlines(see #13)
  11. It's tough to judge Akron coaches fairly & accurately with the current stadium situation. When the new one is complete that evaluation will become much easier (another reason to get it built asap)
  12. Boy that really sucks, it's quite appalling actually. At least when I wrote to Bobinski back in the day I got a courteous thank you letter in return. If he's too busy or uninterested to respond personally he should at least have a staffer do it. Sounds like we need to start directing some (tactful) correspondence to MR's bosses office and let them know this won't cut it.
  13. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.d...08&Profile=1008I won't be surprised if we see a "virtual" NEO Univ. created with a College/Branch at each school, sharing general studies courses in English, Science, Math, History, etc. which would be accepted at any of the campuses/branches and would make instuctors/GA's interchangeable within the region. To maintain their own identities, the individual schools would specialize their upper-class undergrad programs and graduate degrees so that students could choose which degree they want from which school.I don't know if the schools really want to cooperate that much & it may be difficult to execute but the state govt seems intent on finding synergies, reducing costs and reforming/improving(?) the 'university system' in NEO.
  14. Yeah, we probably won't see as many mid-majors winning the national championship anymore with this rule change. Actually it won't change the distribution of talent to the schools much if at all but it will make the first couple of rounds of the tourney very predictable and boring. Big schools getting eliminated early takes too much revenue out of the stream I suppose. They might as well go ahead and subdivide Div. 1 at this point.
  15. "I can't wait until he's in a position where there's some continuity and a little bit of a running game and linemen to protect him on his drops."Amen to that. You post the QB ratings but I don't see you posting the OL or running game ratings...why is that? When CF has some more talent around him he can settle in, get comfortable & confident and put up good numbers. It's not a difficult concept for most of us.
  16. I don't think the admin is too concerned about having to fire KD for excessive losing and thus having to carry the remaining years. Given his past mistakes I'm sure the contract includes outs for UA in case of anything similar. And given his expressed interest in staying here it is probably a good time to lock him up at reasonable rates before his value goes up due to our coming run of and NCAA appearances. The biggest risk of him leaving (in frustration) would be if the scheduling situation and/or MAC gets any worse.
  17. If the Browns franchise gets run into the ground they may leave and not be back.
  18. Don't forget they gave up this year's 2nd round pick (#36) as well. I agree the Browns (Cowboys) 1st round pick next year will be much higher than #22. Stupid move...Jerry Jones owns Phil Savage.
  19. I agree, however life in general and in the NFL isn't always fair and CF will not back down from competing with all comers...he is not done in this league. I'm sure he appreciates any chance he gets (not to mention the $$)
  20. True dat.
  21. If we have all local players and they can't win games, no one will come. If we have all out of state players and the team is ranked, people will come. What we need to improve attendance:1. outstanding players2. new stadium on campus3. win games4. outstanding marching band, promotions & marketing5. OSU not contending for nat'l champion
  22. Getting credit for recruiting players that make the lineup is one thing but if they lose a lot of games, what's it really worth?
  23. With the mobile QB's, do you foresee an option attack as a major component of our offense this season?
  24. http://www.buchtelite.com/media/storage/pa...s-2830624.shtmlSorry, ladies, football is here to stay and flourish and the local business owners are ready to cooperate with new stadium plans (see the above article). When the area is redeveloped and the Zips are nationally ranked you will understand and appreciate the direction we're taking.BTW, admins, since hoops is over and we're into spring practice, will football be rotated back to the top of the topic list soon?
