This thread from last year for a visiting Syracuse fan should give you a start.http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?sh...=19098&st=0

I'm still worried - the only time we have ever beaten an FCS team at Infocision is when we give them some of our players beforehand - I just don't see that here.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

This is going to be the major upheaval that everyone expected was coming. When they write the story should it be "The Pitt and the Pendulum"? -
Is the VMI game the last straw for Ianello?
MDZip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
What do you expect the line to be? No line as of yet.Zips by 10. -
The only consolation - the only other MAC school on the list (even the waiting list) - Can't. Northeast Ohio - proud football traditions (sigh).
-
And right at a time when the NCAA puts Boise on probation. Is it not possible to do well in NCAA D-1A football without cheating?
-
Discounting UA-Temple the MAC was 5-5 (Miami didn't play). Four of the losses were the BCS team and two to ranked teams. Only one team looked totally outclassed playing like competition. Guess who that was? (sigh)
-
Holy crap - up 15-7.
-
But still trying to give it away. A missed field goal and a 15 yard penalty on a play where they had an 11 yard sack. CMU also tied with Kentucky. The MAC looks to be improved this year. We may be in for a heap of trouble.

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
MDZip replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
Actually, sitting in the shoe last Saturday for three and a half hours felt no different than sitting on one of those. Thanks for reminding me....If you happen to have a toilet in your Sauna. -
Don't know if I have ever seen this posted but here is the ESPNU "U" logo for Akron that they created. I like the pouch but little else. Any of you good graphics guys want to give it another shot? (didn't see the animated version but have been told it "hops" so bonus points for that). For those of you not familiar with these, here are some links to other schools logos -http://30fps.mocksession.com/2011/01/27/espn-logo-update/http://30fps.mocksession.com/2011/01/26/espnu-logo-update-2/http://30fps.mocksession.com/2011/01/28/espnu-logo-update-3/http://30fps.mocksession.com/2011/01/27/20...uary-27-23-7-0/http://30fps.mocksession.com/2011/01/26/20...ary-26-17-47-0/

Yeah their board appears to be much like ours, except they have some hope. I did find their one topic that had nothing to do with Temple amusing, It went on for 32 pages about nothing. The first two posts were:Nothing to do with Temple but..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------How about Forsberg going to Colorado. What a jerk. He was all about coming here and then the Flyers hit a slump and he bales. Unreal... What a piece of work!!!! Sorry had to vent for a moment.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NJ SchmittyPost #2435Pocatello, Idaho Since this thread is for things that have nothing to do with Temple, I'd just like to chime in and say that the Ocean City-Somers Point bridge reconstruction appears to be on schedule.and it denigrated from there (much like many of ours). More interestingly, apparently Zipmeister masquerades as NJ Schmitty on their board.

Mwila isn't the only former Akron player doing well. McKauly Tulloch has six goals and an assist at UCF, Ben Speas has three assists for North Carolina and if you count him, Tony Walls has a goal and an assist.

Not surprising that the Zips are still on the list (albeit moved up from #4 to #6) but what is surprising is that Ianellos postgame comment made the Bottom 10 waiting list. Also, this confused me. In the AP coaches poll, in the Others Receving Votes category there is this list:Others receiving votes: Baylor 117, South Florida 97, Iowa 44, Utah 42, Georgia 35, Houston 31, Northwestern 30, Arizona 28, UCF 18, Hawaii 17, North Carolina 15, Michigan 15, NORIL 13, Clemson 13, Southern Miss 12, Air Force 10, Notre Dame 8, Tennessee 5, Brigham Young 4, Maryland 4, Georgia Tech 3, Washington 3, Texas Tech 1, California 1, Cincinnati 1I'm pretty sure NORIL is Northern Illinois. Even when the MAC gets votes, it's disguised. NORIL sounds like a top secret government installation vice a college.

It just keeps getting better. At least this one didn't have anything to do with ICoach. Plus a last place spot in the MAC Daily rankings, a negative mention in ESPN's Forde Yard Dash and no doubt a continuing appearance in the ESPN bottom 10. Oy.

You maybe the only person that thinks they are "cool". They got destroyed on twitter....they are hideous. I like them. A few years ago, Oregon's crazy uniforms also got lamblasted - they're just so different - but now most people, especially younger people, absolutely love Oregon's uni's. I live in the state and I like them too, really like the use of the state flag in them.

Dave, There is always hope, otherwise we wouldn't be fans. Actually, Chisholm showed a few good fl.ashes against OSU, I'm interested in seeing what he can do this week.

I actually ended up going to the the game. My brother in law had two extra tickets so I hopped on Rt 70 and headed up for the game. I was hoping for two things, the Zips to not get completely embarrassed and have a good game day experience. Neither really happened. I would have even been happy if the Zips had gotten the field goal and we'd have gotten the same respect that I felt from the Penn State fans a few years ago. We were pretty much just as bad then but I enjoyed the "Happy Valley" experience about ten times as much. I'll provide some examples. At Penn State, we were welcomed by fans whio wished us luck (but of course both of us understood we had almost no chance), at OSU we were "greeted" by fans wanting to know why we were even bothering to come. There was a real sense of entitlement (so maybe that spills over to the football team). I wanted to see the "dot the i" in person. Their guest dotter was a guy who has donated about $100M to OSU. About as subtle as T Boone Pickens being the drum major at Oklahoma State. My sister had to stop on the stairwell from the heat after the game and one guy coming by saw our Zips shirt and "comforted us" by saying that at least we got to play "at the Big House". How condescending (and besides "The Big House" is Michigan). At Penn State, after the game, we were allowed to go n the field in the end zone and take pictures, at OSU I went back in the stadium to take a couple pictures from the walkway at the lower concourse and was yelled at by security to please "exit the stadium". Why, is the president coming? Or is the Shoe one of our nations's most sacred treasures? And the whole reason I went was because OSU is supposed to be one of the iconic college football experiences. I've been to Penn State and Michigan and would still love to see a game at Notre Dame. I've also stopped to see any stadium and college when I was near any D1-A town. I do it because I like college football and that gives me a better sense of the whole community feel. Lets just say I was not impressed with my stop at OSU. Between the oppressive heat (not their fault but they did nothing that we could find to help the fans out - even ran out of water - unless you were in the big money donor sections), the fan attitude and the terrible Zips play, should have just stayed home and watched it on TV. I was expecting better. I may well return to Penn State, but I doubt I'll make the return visit to the Shoe.

Yep I lost it too. Thought it was my machine but apparently not. -
Reading his story from high school reminds me of the story of Stefan Georgevic from Ampipe High school. He disagreed with the coach and got labeled a black sheep. My dad grew up in Ambridge, PA, so I always got a kick out of that. But I'm REALLY gonna be pissed if CM8 is only 5'7" I wondered if anyone would catch that. Old movie and I know I spelled names wrong. The yard trashing scene is classic "WE didn't quit! YOU quit!" Wonder how much Zach would pay to see that played out here.

I think this is awesome. All of the complianing about not having a place to root and here it is offered up on our board and it isn't met with an enthusiastic response? This is a heck of a good test case. Everybody who is interested ought to show up to show that we can be an actual fan base. Of course since I'd have to drive six hours to get there, this is pretty much just rhetoric from me. But if I was there I would absolutely go.

Name Your Top "Zips vs. BCS Opponent" Moments
MDZip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
You only get to count two there, Cap'n, Naval Academy is not BCS. Good news is that means you get to list another. How is Dennis Kennedy's TD to beat NC State not on there? That'd be my number one. Number two would be Alex Allen's TD run against the Orange that put the game out of reach. And number three just because I was there and it gave us something to cheer was Deryn Bowser outracing the Penn State defense for a long TD. -
Weekly College Soccer Polls
MDZip replied to GoZipsGoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
NCSAA has the Zips at #1 in the Great Lakes region ahead of Louisville. A little surprising to me since Louisville has their whole team back and just beat UCLA who was #2 in many rankings. I kept the above link for only one reason. I find it funny that the URL said ../reporter/edition but ended up being abbreviated to ...porter/edition. I think all US college soccer stories ought to have a link like that.
