Can't ended up in spot 25, only three points higher than the Zips. Kind of surprising with all of their NCAA appearances and wins but we will get lots of oppotunities to pass them this year: * NCAA Tournament victories - 5 * NCAA Tournament appearances - 5 * Conference regular season titles - 4 * Red Line Upsets - 4 * NIT victories - 3 * Leading conference in offensive or defensive efficiency - 3 * 20-win seasons - 3 * NIT appearances - 2 * Individual statistical leaders in conference (PPG or RPG) - 2 * NBA Draft picks - 2 * Other postseason appearances (CBI, CIT) - 1

Zips up 1-0. The video stream is working very well but I'm getting no audio. Anyone hearing the broadcast from the video stream? Edit: Audio doesn't matter, it finally came in but its just the field sounds (which is still kind of cool). UConn goes down (7-6 on PK's), and so does Duke. ACC has only Maryland and UNC left. Not one single Zips opponent has lost yet (Michigan came back too).

Two of our opponents (OSU, MSU) have moved on. I love seeing teams we took on move on. Makes me feel that much better about our chances.

Your question appears to ony relate only to football, but I think it is a much bigger reason. When I went to Akron, quite frankly I didn't like it, it was the only school option for me for a number of reasons. When I graduated and moved 350 miles, I didn't think I'd ever really give it another thought. But then my horizons broadened a little after I went to other schools and I realized it really was quite a little educational gem even if it looked like a few concrete blocks dropped in the middle of the city. So then I stopped being embarrassed of being from there and at the same time Proenza started the Landscape for Learning and completely transformed the campus. I told people that if it looked back then the way it looks now (with all the accompanying student ecoutrements), I might have actually wanted to go there. When I was in the honors program we had a special study carrell in the library, now they have that beautiful new dorm. Anyway, I started to realize what a diamond in the rough Akron really was, so I let other people know it as well. I started to contribute money and then realizing that sadly, a lot of perception of a university has to do with its sports teams so I started giving money there as well. The place has enormous potential and I want to help it realize it. Since the sports teams are entwined with the university, I enjoy them too. Even though the football team is having a poor year, its still an event to go to the games (especially for me because I only get to go a couple times a year). The football team will turn it around (I will be there to see their only victory this year) and all of the other teams are worth supporting. Going to the Zips NCCA basketball tournament game was a ton of fun and so was the soccer championship at Cary last year. Have my tickets ready for this years championship as well. I believe in them that strongly. So it's not about just the football team, its support of the entire university. Someday all of that potential is going to break through and many other folks will recognize what I do.

DJ Gallo included this little item in his column this week. When I first saw it, I was thinking that's kind of cool, perhaps he was equating it to the fact that he helped a team that is 0-10 not quit and give the team a chance to finally win a game until I read it and realized that he just wanted to remove the first r. D*ck. Name of the Week Gary Pride, WR, Akron: Think about it. Gary Pride is just one letter -- one small, innocent typo -- away from a major American city holding a huge parade in his honor. That's pretty awesome for a 5-foot-8 MAC receiver with 19 career receptions.

ESPN Academic All-American Team
MDZip replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
And with Sarkodie being named All-American of the year (and not majoring in something like Sports Communication). How could Porter do any better? Incredible on the field, in the classroom, recruits quailty kids (when was the last time you heard about a soccer player getting into any kind of trouble?). Caleb -
Well, we do have a Wagner as our lead "composer".

If you're looking for a positive sign, every team the Zips played this year (and beat since CSU didn't qualify and OSU got an undeserved bye) that played in the first round (Creighton, MSU, Tulsa) won their game except Oakland (who played MSU). 8 teams on the Zips schedule made the tournament. If you remove the MAC schools, 8 of the 12 OOC teams on the schedule made the tournament (pretty impressive statistic) and one of them wasn't Wake Forest and the only team that we didn't beat either. I'm still shaking my head at that one. As a comparison Maryland played only three OOC NCCA tournament participants (Mich St, UConn and W&M, of course they did have their four opponents in conference as well). With BC falling there is also now no chance of the final four having three ACC teams.
-
Seeing as how I believe it is written by a ZN.O member, I think that would be classified as "plausible".

So much for the vaunted ACC. BC and Virginia both go down and Duke squeaks by Coastal Carolina. Hope this trend continues.

At least he's keeping his word about being loyal to his city. -
iCoach is a loser. Should never ahve wasted that last time out. What an idiotic decision. Last timeout was irrelevant. Though there was little chance the fumble would be overturned it was really the only hope we had. We really have lost a lot of players (Wagner made a tackle on a punt and I'm doubting they were just trying to pad his stats). Maybe the discipline is paying off. I do expect to beat Buffalo next week. We have iCoach for probably the next two years so let's see if his plan works.
-
At least it showed some progress and wasn't a complete embarrassment. I think Miami is a bit of a fraud for a division leader. Beaten only the dregs of the East and West (Eastern and Central). Not impressed. I think Temple will destroy them next week and I hope they don't get selected for a bowl because they will embarrass the MAC.
-
Gotta give some credit. Even though Miam's starting QB is out, the Zips appear to at least be playing with some heart. Only down 10-7 at the half, I give them better than a 50/50 chance of at least beating Buffalo next week.

No surprise, we are still at the bottom but I'd like to thank Pat Forde for including this little nugget in his Forde Yard Dash. Miami (Ohio) (25). Record: 6-4. Last bowl game: 2004 Independence. Games remaining: at winless Akron, Temple. Projected record: 7-5. What's gone right: The RedHawks are 4-0 in games decided by seven points or fewer after winning a total of three games the previous two seasons. On the bright side for you Lee Owens fans, he did include Ashland in his Obscure College Score of the week (and a nice photo of Olivia Munn).

Well maybe Miami will lose a little motivation, with Ohio beating Temple tonight (at Temple), that pretty well eliminates Miami (they still have to play Temple and already lost to Ohio). Hats off to Solich for the likely MAC East title for the second year, maybe we should have hired a former successful head .... oh, never mind.

Effective ten minute scoring drought. We really ought to apply for a patent on it. -

Arrgghh - stream is too slow, can't get FXOH because the Cavs game is not carried in this area and the GD Xavier-IFPFU (or whatever they're called) game is in OT. -
Still gotta give the guy credit, that was a pretty entertaining preview.

Men's Basketball Post game Press Conference Video (Millikin)

Actually he did. He stated that he far prefers defense but recognizes that he needs to score more to help the team win and he has started to do that. -

Thought it was great how Zeke kidded around with Dambrot when he first came into the press conference, seems like they must get along well. More and more proud Zeke selected Akron the more I see him. Also found it interesting that Dambrot said Egner had the ability to become the next Romeo Travis and that Zeke had the potential to be an All-American. Dambrot doesn't hold back with praise or criticism, gotta respect that. ZTV, thanks, it's almost like we're a real program or something. I actually purchased a Sports package on Dish TV so that I can watch the Zips play at Dayton. -
NCAA Tournament Seeding
MDZip replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Unfortunately, Maryland is on Akron's side of the bracket. The Louisville (#1) and UNC (#4) brackets are the opposite side. The Zips and Terps would match up in the College Cup semi's if they win out at home.
