  1. Tickets already in hand (plane and Cup). I I believe I believe that I believe that we I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win! I believe that we will win!
  2. Update via Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated. Looks like he thinks the Big East will be taking UCF and TCU, but One other possibility is Temple re-joining the conference, but I can't imagine that's high on the wish list. Probably not, but they certainly have put themselves in position for it. The only way I could see this happening is if Villanova doesn't want to make the investment and turns the BE down. I've been to Villanova and they do not have a very nice stadium. Maybe we could sell them ours?
  3. How do you know when you've played a tough schedule? When you can lose to Cleveland State and still stay #1 in the NCCA RPI. Wow.
  4. I have to give Mike credit, well done. The part I liked the best, however, was his player rotation. PG: McNees, Abreu SG: Roberts, McClanahan SF: McKnight, Diggs, Egner PF: Cvetinovic, Euton C: Marshall, Bardo Loved seeing that Egner might get some playing time. Really want to see him in action.
  5. Looks like Jason Taylor may hang it up after this year. Dang, used to love seeing him on national games showing he was from Akron. Even have a picture of it from some game in the past. Sorry he never won a Super Bowl but not rooting for the Jets for him to get it.
  6. I think it depends on how you're thinking of the vote. Emotionally, I think every fan would love to get rid of a coach that is performing poorly. If you did, where would that leave you? With coaches who know that if they do poorly in their first year, they'll be gone? Who would want to take that job other than a desperate coach? I also think the Zips should have been able to at least win a couple of games (and maybe they still will). Those thinking with their heads also know this is a dead topic. Even without the financial considerations, iCoach wil be here for at least another year and probably at least two. There have been plenty of examples cited where coaches who do very poorly in their first year do turn their programs around. I have no idea whether iCoach is one of those folks, but the bottom line is we still have time to find out because he is not going anywhere. Unless T. Barberton Pickens is out there somewhere that we don't know about. Or Gary Taylor is upset and has a lot more influence than we think.
  7. This isn't a bad idea. A couple of years ago Coach K wouldn't let Duke's players use their locker room because he felt they hadn't earned it. How about games at the Rubber Bowl until they win? Shouldn't inconvenience more than about 500 fans. There must be at least that many seats still in usuable condition. Or for a really good promotion, let the first 500 fans roam the sideline with the team.
  8. And College Soccer News has us at #2. The loss was disappointing but ultimately may mean little other than showing this team they are vulnerable. Still predict at least a top 4 seed (assuming no more surprises along the way) which means you get to play at home until the College Cup. I still expect and
  9. He's got a pretty good lead now (7%) so keep pushing it. Voting closes in two weeks (Nov. 14).
  10. Top Drawer Soccer dropped us to #3. Seems fair.
  11. Looks like the winner of FAU-BGSU this week will the the 4th team in Akron.
  12. Up-Temple 41 L-Akron-daisical 10. Seven of the Temple points will come on a turnover and the Akron defense will outsore the offense again.
  13. Similar one from the NCAA web site. Highlights the Zips in a few places: Linke currently holds a variety of jobs, but his current one with Fox Soccer Channel brings him to different college locations all over the country to broadcast some of the best games in Men's college soccer. A little over a month ago, Linke and broadcast partner Keith Tabatznik traveled to Ohio to see Tulsa face Akron for a match of the top two schools in the country. "It was electric," Linke said, "1,500 people were there an hour before the game." The Zips won 4-0, and from start to finish, the crowd was always involved. Linke saw fans of all ages, including grandparents, jumping, shouting, and cheering for the Zips, but regardless of location, it has been the same story everywhere. The partnership has brought television cameras to some of the best soccer schools in the country like Akron, Maryland, UCSB, and UConn. These four schools also make up the top four teams in the country in terms of attendance.
  14. As another example, Top Drawer Soccer lists the top players from each conference. If you scroll down, the Zips have the top 11 players and 12 of the first 13, meaning that Top Drawer considers the first person of Akron's bench to be better than all but one other player in the entire conference. That's dominance.
  15. After seeing the ad, I'm just surprised there wasn't a voice at the end asking him if he "learned anything".
  16. I read that the Zips just tied the Indiana record for going unbeaten in conference (28 games, 26-0-2), hopefully we set that record when we play Hartwick, so I was looking through the MAC's Mens Soccer Record Book. I was expecting to see UA all over the place (and I do) but just how dominant is amazing. Caleb has done an incredible job but the team was no slouch before him. The Zips started MAC soccer in 1993. The have never finished below second place in all of that time and only once lost more than 1 league game (they lost two in 2000 and finished in a four way tie for first anyway). Their cumulative league total over that time is 87-10-6 for an over .900 winning percentage. On average the Zips lose OR tie just once a year in the MAC. There can't be too many more sports that dominate their leagues the way the Zips have dominated MAC soccer. Just a few more points of pride for the best team we have on campus. Worth a look.
  17. The Sun Belt is attempting to upgrade their RPI. The Sun Belt will announce Monday afternoon that it will demand all of its teams, beginning in the 2011-12 season, to play non-conference games against teams that have a three-year combined power rating that is within the top 150 or if that school finished with an RPI inside the top 150 in the previous season .... The Sun Belt tried this mechanism once before from 2003 to 2005 and the league's RPI went to No. 12 in 2005. The Sun Belt was RPI conference number 23 last year. Their champ, North Texas, got a number 15 seed. Something that maybe the MAC should consider?
  18. Not true, the kids on the end zone grass were having a ball and not paying one bit of attention to the game. They got their money's worth and more.
  19. On the bright side, Capt. K, JohnnyZip and Dr. Z all made outstanding chili, I consider myself the winner for having sampled each. Thanks guys! . Also got a nice nap on the "grassy knoll" (seems like an appropriate metaphor) end zone grass in the third and fourth quarter and got to see the Zips beat WMU in soccer. Still a good day despite watching one of the worst D-1 football teams (perhaps ever?). Are we talking historically bad yet?
  20. He's up 4 percentage points over #2. Keep it up!
  21. I can. Hopefully, this puts Z.I.P.'s worried mind at ease.
  22. New projections are up. This is all for fun right now, but look at who the Zips projected bracket opponents would be. That would be a tough road. In my opinion, by far the toughest of the four regions. #1 Akron Region: First Round – Sacred Heart (NEC Automatic) at Penn State (Big Ten #4)
Second round – Winner at #1 Seed Akron (Mid American Automatic) First Round - Colgate (Patriot Automatic) at Connecticut (Big East #5)
Second round – Winner at #16 Seed Brown (Ivy #3) First round – Virginia (ACC #4) at West Virginia (Big East #3)
Second round – Winner at 8 Seed Ohio State (Big Ten #3) First round – Cincinnati (Big East #8) at Tulsa (CUSA #3)
Second round – Winner at #9 Seed Creighton (MVC Automatic)
  23. That was really well done and shows the Zips and the program in a very positive light (nice that they were there in an absolute destruction of Michigan). Nice interview with two AK-Rowdies (using the Info as a backdrop) and a look at one of the Michigan red cards in another video. Well done or I might say Top Drawer. In an unrelated note, I will get to use my soccer season ticket when I come in this weekend for a little Zips sports fix. I will also stop by the tailgaters and attend the football game. Come on, we have to pull one out sometime.
  24. Info looks nice even when it's only 1/4 full.
  25. How many games would a decent team lose against a killer schedule like this? http://www.butlersports.com/sports/m-socce...msoccerschedule You caught me in the middle of trying to get the link to work too - since it had the word rank s ummary in it you can see what happened.
