Of next years OOC opponents, Wyoming was on the bottom ten waiting list, UAB was mentioned plus we have Duquesne. Throw in Nebraska, whom I'm not going to say we would beat, but they are definitely lower echelon Big Ten not like Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State, all of whom we've played in the last decade. That is a damn reasonable OOC schedule to try to get the Zips off to a good start. Feeling a little more hopeful for next year.

In contrast the Zips got only two of the bottom five (of course we couldn't play ourselves). Combined current conference record of the other teams (6 of the top 7) we played is 30-16.

The other kind of amazing thing about that season was that the Zips ended up being tied for first with Miami and Bowling Green each going 5-3 in conference. Miami had beaten Akron, Akron beat Bowling Green and Bowling Green beat Miami so there was no tiebreaker there. They had to go to a tiebreaker where they judged strength of conference opponent and Akron narrowly came out ahead. Without that, there is no Getsy to Hixon.

Actually it was a loss that was one of my favorite moments (to be honest nothing could have topped being at the national championship but this came very close for me). In 2018 when the Zips made the national championship, they played Maryland. My daughter had just graduated from there and happened to be in San Diego at the time. So I flew out and we went to the game together and it was pretty cool being with her and having her team win a National championship on the same field that the Zips had 8 years earlier.

I am not surprised we have only scored 14 points. I am shocked we have given up zero.
