  1. Well we know what this year's version would do at least.
  2. Not trying to pick on you but this was unintentionally funny and accurate. Football is supposed to be the marquee sport but I agree with you it has become the Marquis (as in de Sade) sport. All of us who follow it year after year have to have some masochistic tendencies. :-)
  3. Assistant coach was a bit upset after a call went against the Zips. :-)
  4. Akron up 3-2; 5:30 left
  5. Maryland students chanting "Jake from State Farm" and "Where's your khakis?" at Fenlason who responded by apparently bowing t9 the crowd after he made a big play.
  6. 2-0 Zips. Richie Laryea
  7. Najem scores at the 22 minute mark. Sept out with an arm injury.
  8. Doesn't D'Orazio have eligibility left? Can we get him back? :-)
  9. Damn it - Pohl gets them down there and then gets pulled - unless he's hurt don't get it. And then miss a chippie field goal - that will hurt us
  10. Jerome Lane makes an impact and he doesn't go down easily
  11. Oklahoma fans coold not have been any nicer
  12. Yuarchek must have built a solid foundation. Coastal is going to be joining the Sun Belt next year.
  13. And now we can start complaining about the conference schedule Our double crossovers this year are CMU and NIU. I really did like the format where it was your division, the other division and finish with yours again. Not as big a fan of this one, we don't see Can't til the end of February and then again in two weeks. And will already be done with Buffalo before we ever see the Flushes. Tues., Jan. 5 – at Buffalo* Fri., Jan. 8 – Western Michigan* Tues., Jan. 12 – at Central Michigan* Sat., Jan. 16 – at Toledo* Tues., Jan. 19 – Eastern Michigan* Sat., Jan. 23 – Miami (Ohio)* Tues., Jan. 26 – Northern Illinois* Sat., Jan. 30 – at Ball State* Tues., Feb. 2 – at Ohio* Sat., Feb. 6 – Central Michigan* Tues., Feb. 9 – at Bowling Green* Sat., Feb. 13 – at Northern Illinois* Tues., Feb. 16 – Buffalo* Sat., Feb. 20 – at Can't State* Tues., Feb. 23 – at Miami (Ohio)* Sat., Feb. 27 – Bowling Green* Tues., March 1 – Ohio* Fri., March 4 – Can't State*
  14. I just hope at least one of them sticks on an NFL roster somewhere.
  15. For Pitt we didn't, amazingly, it was a 1-1 deal, I think it's a lot harder to do 2-1 deals in football but in basketball with the number of games I could give up a home date if it meant bringing in a big name opponent. The only way the Zips will get the recognition they need is to knock off someone with a name. The tournaments are good for that but it would be great to bring in a name people recognize. But barring that Dave brings up a good point about other mid-majors, I don't believe that no one will come to the JAR that would be a good matchup for both teams that aren't high major conferences. Last year in the 50-100 RPI range you have Valpo, Iona, Harvard, Georgia State, Green Bay, Richmond, Louisiana Tech, Yale, Murray State, Illinois State, Northeastern, La Salle, High Point, South Dakota State. All reasonable mid-major opponents and all of them are terrified of Akron or unwilling to do a home and home series? Have a hard time believing we couldn't set up one or two a year with those types of schools. Even though RPI's vary from the time you schedule them, even in a down year last year the Zips RPI was 120, so that wouldn't be a bad matchup for one of those teams. I'm not asking for Duke to come in, but would Illinois State be so hard?
  16. Easy, the two best coaches in each teams history - Sasho Cirovski and Caleb Porter. Five Finals appearances and three National Championships between them.
  17. Nobody loves being on that field or being a Zip more than Cody Grice. Absolutely my favorite player to watch. We might know what we get out of him more than the others but what we get out of him is always 100% effort. Want to see if we see him carry the ball again this year.
  18. I don't get to see the pro version but since my daughter is a junior at UM she and I will be going to see the college version on Labor day.
  19. So now we know that Baker Mayfield will be Oklahoma's starting quarterback, but they and we have no idea who ours will be. Advantage Zips.
  20. Nothing to do with being pessimistic or not supporting the team - all Zips teams deserve support, but simply an observation of where the Zips currently are. And since you mentioned it, Ken Lolla was a reasonably good recruiter and the closest he ever got was the Elite Eight (still really good but 3 very hard wins short of a title - being ranked #1 and finishing #1 are two very different things). Caleb was a phenomenal recruiter and had great recruiting classes every year and you always felt they had a chance to win a championship (right with the power teams of the sport). This Zips team is still going to be very good, but if they do the same, they probably will have over achieved (and that would be great).
  21. I stopped reading when I got to this sentence about Buffalo's new head coach. As an aside, Leipold's best hire is wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello, who quite easily ranks as one of the premier recruiters in all of college football.
  22. So anyone planning on going? I have some friends in Tulsa I haven't seen in a while, so I figured this would be a fine time to go out, so I'm in.
  23. 48? SMH. Caleb used to regularly bring in top 5 classes. We're right there with Wright State, Temple and FIU. We used to be with UCLA, Maryland and UNC.
  24. ESPN topic on one writer's opinion on who should be the next person from each team to make the hall of fame. I read the Dolphins one with interest. Miami Dolphins Jason Taylor. Taylor should be the next Dolphins player enshrined in Canton. The former defensive end is sixth all time with 139.5 sacks and was elected to six Pro Bowls. His eligibility begins in 2016. -- James Walker Next year - that would be awesome - I think he has a legitimate shot.
  25. There was a young woman killed at that exact spot when I was a junior - it's when the discussions about closing Buchtel Ave through campus started in earnest. At least most the money we're talking about for capital investment did significantly improve the campus. It's almost unrecognizable (for the better) to those of us that were there 30 years ago.
