Hearing some rumors of Missouri State for our 12th game. They also only have 11 games scheduled and would be open Dec. 1st.

I would be interested to see if our AD responds to those emails on his flight home from the game.

Game #12 Can't State (Friday Nov 28 @ 1pm)
flipthezip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Does anyone know if when we win at Can't and become bowl eligible if we can continue practicing until we get official word of a bowl invite or not? I am sure some down time is needed but can't deny the extra work won't be valuable towards next year. -
I have found at least 1 positive tonight (at least for me). I seem to have some extra vacation days to use since the ones set aside for a bowl game won't be needed.

Was that Zippy or a blind squirrel?
-
Glad I am not shaving this month. If we continue to play like this through the end of the season, I will need to hide my face as a Zips fan.
-
At least it was the first ball thrown Pratt's way all night that was caught. Get it together Zips!

Not only do I know the words, but I have been singing it to my 2 year daughter every night before she goes to bed for the past year. She now asks me to sing "Close Beside" every night and sings right along. Start them early. My son turns 1 in May and his indoctrination into Zips Nation will begin shortly after. Go Zips!!!! And at the time of this past and in the future ... Can't State Sucks!!!!

I think OSU would be out. He would have needed to have been on campus and enroll for their winter quarter which began last Monday. If that had occurred, it would have been known by now by someone and made public. I guess we will know soon enough if he is staying put come Monday.

Gerry Faust was fired the following morning about 10AM but it wasn't announced until mid-afternoon. There is quite a bit to work out when there are years remaining on a current contract. The buyout agreement and language of the press release will be reviewed (and some points possibly renegotiated) by both his and the university's attorney before the official announcement is made.

We should cut our losses but not a chance we would get him to come here. He will sit out the rest of the season and got another chance somewhere next year. At worse, he goes and works for one of his brothers. We had our shot at a Stoops and missed by hiring Owens. That chance is not coming around again.

We could still have Alex Allen back in the mix. I was under the impression that he was petitioning for a 6th year.

Yeah, same here. Do you know what was annoying me?This offsides rule. From the few times I have seen it called, I assume that you are not allowed to pass the ball into the box, it has to be dribbled into it?Wow, that just seems like a score killer.BTW, how would you like to be Jordan Graye today? That's got to feel miserable.I hope this helps. The mindset to begin with in understanding the rule it is that you can't be cherry picking. Here is what I found on the internet that was labeled as "Offside Rule easy to understand"???? When is a player called offside?A player, usually a striker, is called offside when he is nearer to the other team's goal than both the ball and the second last opponent. The second last opponent usually being the last defender from the opponent team, an offside occurs when the striker is closer to the opposing team's goal than that team's last defender. To put it simply, try to picture an imaginary line on Team A's last defender, a line parallel to the goal line (similar to the first down line on televised football games). If Team B's striker is over this line when his teammate passes the ball, then he is offside. If Team B's striker is on the same line as Team A's last defender (or under the line) then he is in a correct position. One more thing to look after in an offside: it doesn't matter if Team B's striker is over this line when he receives the ball. The moment to look after is the moment the midfielder passes the ball, which will trigger an offside if the striker is over the last defender line.

I think this actually makes us 23-0-1. In the wisdom of the NCAA, this gets counted as a tie. You knew after having to change the home field rule from last year the NCAA wasn't done finding a way to put it to us.Either way - I say if it feels like a win and looks like a win, IT IS A WIN!!!!!!!!UNC ain't calling it a tie
-
I would actually like us to keep with the tradition we started by also the naming the field. In this case, I would love to see Coleman Crawford Court at Hipsher Hall.Andrick must have been idolizing Jamie Bosley.

What will happen to our commits to the 2010 Class?
flipthezip replied to zipsfan111's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Several scenarios will now play out.1. Those who committed to Akron based more on the school and facilities will look to keep their commitments if the new staff will want them. Remember, one of the knocks on JD and his staff was some of their questionable recruiting choices so these players will need to be re-evaluated by the new staff.2. Those who committed to Akron based on the coaching staff and their relationships may begin looking and calling their second and third choices.3. All of the students who have committed to Akron will be getting their phones blown up by other schools.4. If the new head coach and members of his staff come from other 1-A schools, they may bring athletes who committed to them at other schools to Akron if that student committed based on the coach rather than the offerings of the school. The key is to get a head coach and staff in place quickly. The fax machine will be a buzz on Monday morning with resumes and fed-ex envelopes will start arriving on Tuesday. The phone calls from coaches and AD's will begin by the end of the week recommending their guy.Hopefully the new coach and staff will be in place within the next 4-6 weeks. -
Will a win against Can't State carry ANY meaning
flipthezip replied to ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net's topic in Akron Zips Football
I was looking at next weeks game as a chance to beat Can't which is always nice and as a way to take some positives from this year.THAT HAS ALL CHANGED!!!!!Listening to some of the wrap up today from the Can't game and there was discussion about next weeks game. It was being stated how ready for the game Can't is due to the payback they wish to deliver for the stadium vandalism. Also for the pictures of the Zips with the wagon wheel that were apparently sent to them. They are ready to come into Infocision and take it back as well as to have bragging rights of winning in their first trip to our new stadium.Screw them!!!! Take it to them boys and remind them despite our problems this season that at the end of the day -
Maybe they should have been scouting the flag football playoffs and championships this week. Saw a kid hit a punt the other night for every bit of 70 yards.
-
Make the move today!!! You have an off week to make the transition and get ahead of the curve in looking for a new coach. The program is nearing a complete meltdown. Under his watch we have lost scholarships - academics, have dismissed the starting quarterback and a suspended a DL becuase of assault charges - discipline and character, suspended an assistant coach for potential recruiting violations - lack of institutional control, and lastly we aren't winning - coaching.

Petition: Ending Open enrollment
flipthezip replied to ksu sucks's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
This is not the time to be getting rid of open enrollment. The economy is in the tank and cuts are being made deep in to higher education funding and financial aid. Just last night I heard on the news that Spring tuition is going up 3.5% and that we are facing a budget short fall. Right now we need to take it as many students as possible. If for nothing more than to help fill Info.I am all for UA becoming more selective in enrollment practices and criteria, but right now is not the time.Either way -
I voted 20-30, but I think the better break down question would be 20-25 or 25-30.I figure Morgan St and Indiana are 30,000 games.Ohio (Homecoming) and Can't draw 20,000 min and could approach 25,000Temple may get a draw being on Friday night but the success of the season to that point will determine if it is 20,000 or 15,000.Eastern Michigan - "Black Friday" will take on a whole new meaning. No students on campus. 15,000 at best if the game means anything for the post season. So 30 + 30 + 20 + 20 + 15 + 10 = 125/6 = 20+But 30 + 30 + 25 + 25 + 20 + 15 = 24+ *with a little Akron attendance adjustment call it 25

Marketing effort sightings
flipthezip replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I know we a few weeks away from camp actually starting, but I would love to see a an hour show put together talking about the team, our opponents, and including a tour of the stadium. Run it on STO and get some buzz going. I know we are going to see dozens of Suckeyes shows starting anyday now. -
With summer classes still in session and the possibility that some players may need to complete course work for 2009 eligibility, not all returning players may be a certainty yet. Also, until recruited freshman, who didn't enroll early in summer courses, actually arrive for the first day of camp, they are in limbo.I would expect to see a roster somewhere around the 7th or 8th of August. That is if what I read about JD starting practices August 6th in the stadium is accurate.

That would be sweeeeeeet. I have no suggestions for songs however. My wide array of musical awards is only outdistanced by the number of good citizenship awards presented to Can't St basketball players.By the way, I haven't seen it mentioned in a while but

Do I see the first component of the scoreboard in place?
