I thought I would just put this out there...D Hixon is an Akron alum. He was drafted into the NFL, and got a Superbowl ring. He was both a starting WR and KR and PR. He ALSO played DEFENSE for Akron. Now, I doubt he played long enough or was a big enough star to be set for life financially. I think he is done as a player (really, as a lifetime Giants fan I hope not, but reality bites) and will eventually be looking for a JOB.So MAYBE someone from UA should send out some feelers. Bring him in as a receivers/returners/special teams assistant, and when he progresses and iCoaches contract is up....Again, don't get mad. I am just putting it out there. It could be a good opportunity for us. We don't have that many former players that were pros, and Jason Taylor does NOT need the money.Comments?

A fine Zip has reached the end of his NFL road I fear. After that spectacular circus catch on Monday nite, it is now being reported that Hixon tore the ACL on the same knee that had ACL surgery last year.Probably the end of a fine career for a former Zip. Sorry Dom.

Doing an MRI right now. Latest word was that it may have been a calf injury, not the knee.

Is the VMI game the last straw for Ianello?
akronzips71 replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think the Zips win big. One of us will be wrong. I expect the that the loser will be man enough to say they were wrong and willing to change their opinion. You can count on that from me if you are correct. Have you ever hired anyone?? Most will rely on personal observations and experiences. I do not have a problem with TW using personal experience to help make a high risk decision. People make mistakes....he may have made one. But to make that determination now is not something that is not prudent or wise. TW has also done many good things. I am willing to wait until the end of the season to make any judgments on the football situation. Can I have some of what you have been smoking? Our opponents have been taking it easy on us. They could probably all have scored 100+ against us. We are NEVER going to win "big". MAYBE we can eke out one win, but I would not count on it. -

How did that work out???A whole lot better than our game. Even without Vick for almost 1/2 the game. -
Dave, we don't always agree, but in this case...I don't see PN7 being better, and if we had Manning (either) on the field it would not help. This is a ship with no captain.

Dave:He is still here. How can we move on? Really....isn't that last comment what is wrong with the culture in the USofA right now?? We had Bush...and his haters could not move on. Now we have Obama and his haters cannot move on. Seriously...find a way. This has nothing to do with Bush or Obama. They were both elected by the people and were entitled to serve out their term. iCoach is merely an employee. Right now, I find this to be incredibly embarrassing. The WORST Div I team two years in a row. Are you kidding me?Let me put it to you this way:Akron, a perennial Soccer powerhouse, is the NATIONAL CHAMPION.Mens Basketball has won 20+ games every year under KD, and has become a perennial post season participant. In fact, I think we may be outgrowing the MAC in hoops. This has the potential to be a banner year for us.And then there is FOOTBALL. So lets see, we can attract Soccer and Hoops talent, and that talent can be coached into being big winners. Is there some mysterious reason why we can't do that in football? Do we lack funds? Do we have a horrible facility that no one will play in? NOWhat we have is an incredible inept coach who has no clue how to call a game or use his players to the best advantage to use the skills they have. His entire game plan is hand off to Chilsom. then when we get wayyyy behind, the game plan is try to throw to anyone. In between handoffs to Chilsom. At this point, we have to save face and fire the man. By going on with the season with him at the helm we just show everyone we are losers. Football is big time for college. This embarrassment WILL affect our recruiting for ALL sports, our recruiting of good students, and our fund raising. No one likes a loser. The only out is to get rid of him, and find someone who understands college football. -
As I stated before, the OL can NOT protect a pocket QB. Moore needs a different, more fluid offense to have any chance of success.

Clayton Moore Transitions from JUCO to DI-A
akronzips71 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football
Would it be fair to say that we don't have an offensive line that can protect a pocket quarterback?Everyone will get intercepted if they have to stand there and get hit while throwing, or if the defense gets in close enough to tip the ball.LR8 seems somewhat mobile. Maybe we need to abandon the "pro" offense and make the game more fluid. -
Time to shut down Football -- experiment over?
akronzips71 replied to K-Roo's topic in Akron Zips Football
The real question is when will the administration finally get fed up with being a laughingstock. Not for anything, but football has to do with STUDENT recruiting. People want to attend a lot of schools because they saw their football teams playing on Sat mornings and on New Years Day.This disaster hurts the University. They need to bite the bullet and fire him. Let him sue for the rest of the money. I suspect many alums and students would kick in out of their own pockets to buy this guy out. They need to find a REAL college coach, who can devise offenses and defenses that our players can actually play, not keep trying to pound square pegs into round holes. -
Time for a gadget play:Handoff to Chisholm.
-
Well, the football players do get the cheerleaders. So the question is, what will Daddy AND Mommy be telling the kids?
-
But why is a team that is just about the worst in DI playing a "pro" offense.Maybe our guys would be better off trying a high school offense.Interestingly, most of the guys who play pro offense are ..... wait for it ...... PROSWhich our guys are NOT.
-
WOW talk about negative vibes. We are gonna be GOOD this year.
-
I turned it off with 13 minutes to go. Why bother? We definitely may be rated as the worst team in all of Div IThere is really no excuse for this. We have resources, we have active players in the NFL. No way we should be this awful.
-
This is too embarrassing. Game needs to be called due to incompetence. This coach just does not have a clue.
-
Should I start a new fire iCoach thread?Maybe he will give us a break and quit?
-
What are the Vegas odds on us winning even one game this year?
-
exactly.I REALLY liked what I saw

Blackburn looks to work out for the opening created by the season-ending injury to Jonathan Goff.Hixon is listed as the No. 1 punt returner on the Giants' Week 1 depth chart.Corner hasn't tweeted since being cut by the Bills.Jason Taylor gave kids a shopping spree with $300 each. It's about time they got Hixon back on returns. He is one of the best in the NFL.
-
WOW ANOTHER handoff to Chilsom. Who would have thought?
-
CM8 showed some stuff at the end. Yes, I know it is prevent defense and all that but the point is, he is mobile and can make things happen. iCoach has to learn. Turn CM8 loose and let him make stuff happen. Use the assets you have.
