This guy Justice looks too good to be true. 27 PPG and a 3.95 GPA How did KD get him to come to Akron? He should have been on EVERYONES radar. Careful, use him or lose him. If he can throw in close to 20 a game, combined with Zeke and Nik on the inside this is an NCAA team almost for sure.

Well alright, I got the year wrong (GoZips confirms I was out of diapers by that time). It was 1972. But it was in Evansville, and it was Brian Westover who scored to beat Tennessee State, and their superstar, Larry Steele. Boy, I hope that was his name, or else some Old Timer will jump all over me! Was the first opponent Philly Textile (now U of Philly)? I don't think YSU ever made the post season in D-2. Didn't they ALWAYS suck? I was gone by 1972, and there was NO Internet (can you believe that)? and no Akron scores were available in NY.So no, I never heard of Brian Westover.

I was at the first one, but I don't think the second was 1970. AFAIK we did not go to Evansville in 1970, and I don't recall Brian Westover, I think he came after I graduated in 1971. I remember Quarles, Jenkins, Paul, Glover from my junior and senior years.

Right now he has not even made all-Mac, and you guys are putting him into the NBA as a Junior. He has potential to get to the NBA, primarily because of his height. But he is just not there yet. Now if he and Nik play up to their potential, there is indeed a shot at a few wins in the dance. One can only hope.

Getting drafted does not guarantee him a job. If for the sake of this conversation he was to get drafted after his junior year and does not make it into the NBA he is just another unemployed seven footer without a college degree. Since he has not yet achieved superstar status, he SAFE move is to get the degree before making the leap. Like everyone else, athletes need to earn a living. You only give up that last year when you have so much talent that someone is going to give you a really big no cut contract with a signing bonus and you don't ever need to worry about money again. If he does not get into the NBA, he will at least be a local hero with a degree and someone will give him a good job.

Wow, I'm surprised those guys all came to Akron for a Zips game. Was that the one Howard called on ABC? Always a wise ass. Back before you were born they used to have some GOLF and BOWLING tournaments in Akron that were rather national in scope. And the Diamond Grille was where the Pros and Announcers went to eat.
