  1. It has been around 40 years since I last ate at the Diamond Grille. But it was the best steak I ever had. I can still remember it. And they used to have banquets and such in the back room. I recall seeing Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Howard Cosell in the place.
  2. New York Giants’ Domenik Hixon Nearing Full Strength March 6th, 2011 at 6:27 PM By Sean Carroll Just days after the New York Giants re-signed special teams return man, Domenik Hixon, news followed that he is closing in on a full recovery from the ACL injury he sustained during mini-camp last year. With the new contract in place, and formally inked, Giants fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that not only is Hixon remaining a Giant, but should also be ready to take back his role as Big Blue's return man. As reported on Giants.com, Hixon is elated about his recovery, explaining: "I feel real comfortable, I feel strong…I was joking with one of my buddies. We were running together and I told him, ‘I feel like I gained a step.'" Recovering Hixon for the next season will be a step gained for Big Blue as well. In 2009, Hixon stood-out in his punt and kick return performances. Specifically, the Akron alumnus set a New York Giants single-season record in 2009 with 57 kickoff returns for 1,291 yards averaging 22.6-yards per return. Hixon also averaged 15.1-yards per punt return, including a 79-yard touchdown. The Giants did not have any kick or punt returns for touchdowns in the 2010 season. Part of that blame rests on one of Hixon's 2010 replacements, Darius Reynaud. Reynaud put up lackluster stats in 2010 with an average of 5.7 yards per punt return and 18.4 yards per kickoff return. Despite his disappointing performance, the Giants also re-signed Reynaud to a one-year contract in order to offer some competition to Hixon for the return man position. It is unlikely this competition will amount to much. Hixon also elaborated on his preparations and training for the next NFL season, sharing: "I'm preparing myself as well as I can and getting all the rust off now so when I get back out there I'll be ready for the season and be at full speed. I'm back doing everything full speed. I'm trying to simulate the season I missed with different things." Seeing #87 fielding kickoffs and punts will be a welcomed change of pace for Giants fans, as will the speed, agility, and experience Hixon brings along with him.
  3. Obviously JT, because he goes straight to the Hall of Fame (and Canton is not far from Akron). BUT I voted for Hixon. Hopefully, he is not done. Already holds several Giants records, and can still have some great years. Unlike most of you Akron locals, I get to watch him every single game. Healthy, the best return man in the game. Just totally mis-used by the Giants. They used him on punts, but his REAL forte is kickoffs. When he gets up a head of steam, it only takes one cut and he is off to the races. I look forward to getting him back. It really screwed us last year when he went down. There just was no one available to replace him. And Chase is the most solid player on the Giants. NOT a great athlete, but he plays his ass off and manages to be in the right place at the right time.
  4.    Len gets my vote. He was INCREDIBLY athletic. He could just hang in mid air. He jumped center against guys almost Zekes size. Anyone who ever saw him play has to put him right up there, and that was the no dunk and no three point play era. He could/WOULD have had a lot more points in todays game. And Don Williams also. It was said that he tried out for the Browns, but at the expense of a possible NBA career.
  5. I actually contacted him and there is no relation, although he is the right age and from the right State. Still, he is a gentleman and I wish him well. Except against us.
  6. Does anyone know how old he is or where he is from? I grew up in New York with a Bob Senderoff. Can not be a real common name.
  7. UMASS is a "name" school. Probably the biggest name in the MAC. Welcome aboard, it is good news.
  8. After last season Nicely should move to Argentina and play FOOTBOUL.
  9. What does "Three More Feet" refer to? I watched that game, but the reference escapes me.
  10. UMASS is only an hour and a half away. I can go to a Zips game!
  11. Three active lineman. Our new Center went down with an ankle injury. Who...Adam Bice? What do we have now, like 6 offensive linemen? IF this guy plays as good as he did last year, there is a good chance he will put the Zips on the map. The media LOVES a connection like his name. You can see the headlines: "Lone Ranger rides in on white horse to save the day" "Lone Ranger throws silver bullets" "Lone Ranger to Tonto for a touchdown". And we might even win a few games.
  12. Stark County POY Nyles Evans is considering going the Prop-48 route at Akron. What is Prop 48?
  13. APRIL FOOL!
  14. You are showing your age. I remember KW too. They actually had some big guys and were a good opponent.
  15. I think some of the Creighton fans had it right before we played them this year. What good program wants to risk losing to (ugh) Akron? IF we were VERY weak or VERY strong it would be attractive to top programs. As a better than mediocre team that can beat a big once in a while we are not that attractive an opponent. Beating us does NOTHING for them. Losing to us becomes an anchor that drags them down. IF we had beat ND at the dance, wow. They would have thought they were in the Twilight Zone. To ND, ranked #5 in the country, that game was all down side. They were SUPPOSED to beat us, so winning got them nothing more than advancement to the next game they were supposed to get anyway. Losing to us makes them the laughingstock of the dance. What WE need to do is get so good that top teams WANT to play us so they can say they beat us. That is where Butler is at right now. Win or lose tonite, they went to the finals two years in a row. They are a force.
  16. Resources are money. Notre Dame is a small school and one can't say they have a lot of money. Resources come from ticket sales, ads, alumni donations, etc. If you get enough of that, you have the resources to win. Your school can be as small as 100 people with one really rich donor. Not only can I say Notre Dame has a lot of money, I can say they have a boatload of money, and that's a fact. They are freaking Notre Dame. The Gipper WE learned their fight song in grade school in New York. They have everything they need to get a national championship in every sport every year. They are Notre Dame.
  17. Thought he grew up in Kenya? 30% of Republicans would probably believe it. And if it's reported on Fox Noise, that number jumps to 80% of Republicans believing it. I believe it
  18. KD will stay as long as Zeke is here. He stayed with LeBron then got a better job. Zeke is the ticket to the next level.
  19. I feel it's disrespectful. Like calling Kareem Abdul Jabbar Lew Alcindor, yeah his name once was Lew, but it's not anymore. Does this look like the place you went to when they called it Akron U? Looks like the Golden Arches to me. When I went, we called it: Capital of West Virginia U.
  20. Is that right, we play them next year? Yikes
  21. A mid major will be playing for the national championship. There is hope for us and the MAC And damn it, we should have beat ND.
  22. And I STILL say we just might get a diamond in the rough. Earl and Walt would have gotten a big time school IN THE NORTH OR WEST just to satisfy the race baiters, if anyone had any idea how they would turn out.
  23. Major schools were recruiting black players, they just made certain not to recruit too many bacause in the 1960s that would have been taboo even at northern schools. I think the last all white SEC basketball team was coached by the racist coach Adolph Rupp at Kentucky. Pat Riley was one of those players and they were run out of the gym in a national championship game by a team with an all black starting five. Even to this day, there are a certain number of white people who still get upset about the number of black people playing basketball. They also get fixed on the increased number of coaches who are black. It isn't a hard one to figure out....players become coaches for the most part. If most of the players are black, eventually, most of the coaches will be black as well. It's a natural evolution. I did not intend for this to be a racial discussion. My point was, at least three of those players would have been recruited by majors if they had any inkling of how good they would turn out to be. Do you really think that ANY university (other than MAYBE a few in the deep south) would leave Earl the Pearl on the table for someone else to recruit? Or Walt Frazier? Or even Bill Turner that that matter, he DID play 6 years in the pros which is 6 years more than most of the players in the Final Four will ever see.
  24. I am NOT buying into that one at all. There were plenty of black players at major universities in those days. And Phil Jackson was not black, even then. Not in the south. Here is a team picture of the 1966 Alabama football team. Try and find just one black player. SEC And that somehow proves that no major university would recruit a black player? Because, strangely enough: 1967 Consensus All-America team Consensus First Team Player Position Class Team Lew Alcindor C Sophomore UCLA Clem Haskins G Senior Western Kentucky Bob Lloyd G Senior Rutgers Elvin Hayes F/C Junior Houston Wes Unseld C Senior Louisville Bob Verga G Senior Duke Jimmy Walker G Senior Providence So like I said, maybe they were just undiscovered talents in high school.
