Doubt it will be Fick. I think Meyer will keep him on his staff if possible.

If the future of Akron football depended on winning one game...

We can only hope it's true.

I know sarcasm, but... Some people need to get their butt to the Winking Lizard tonight and make a stink. You have an open forum there and could easily voice your opinion of Ianello. Don't you feel the empty stadium speaks louder than anything anyone can say? I would love someone to ask him "Why does this team appear to keep getting worse and can't even be competitive with the worst teams in CFB?" -

Formula is hire an experienced HC that has a history of consistent winning and running a good program. There are many D1-AA coaches out there that fit the bill. I'm not opposed to that either, but proven coordinators for former HC's rom BCS schools should also be considered. I think you even said so yourself in a post the other day. Just don't hire anymore stinking recruiting coordinators or position coaches with little or no experience. In almost 25 years since joining 1A, this school still hasn't figured out how to hire a football coach. Yes, I did say that. I have no problem with a coordinator. If it's the right one. They can be tricky though. They haven't been the head dog and some aren't cut out for HC. Some coordinators are great until they become the HC and then they forget all knowledge of football. I agree about no more freaking position coaches though.

I heard Urban Meyer might be available. Nope, he's very, very close to being off the market.

A USC offensive coordinator isn't going to come to Akron.
-
Wrong. Tressel came from a D1AA, not D2. Also, he had multiple NC at that level. Winters is at D2 and has not won any championships or even played for any or was close to any. Not even close enough to call apples and oranges. I do agree that Coach I has to go though.

I work in Marlington & there are 3 D-1 players on this years' team - 2 seniors, 1 junior. One senior is going to Michigan State, 1 is going to Tennessee and the junior has already committed to Michigan. Word on the street was none of them liked Fickell & Co. very much. Thought they were too pushy to get commitments and downright arrogant/mean-spirited when the kids were looking @ other schools. Just a rumor, but I'm sure there's some fire here. From everything I have ever heard it is the recruits and players love Fick. He is just not a very good coach right now. Pittman is 1 guy down there that will probably change his mind back when UM is announced as HC. Strobel is over rated and was afraid of sanctions. Dunn may change against OSU when UM is announced as HC. UM doesn't use big backs. Luke is a great recruiter. His problem lies in experience and handling pressure. I would pass on Luke right now.

Fickell has looked like a deer in the head lights all season. Sure he was placed in a bad position, but he is totally lost. Even the defense, which is his specialty has regressed. No to Fick.

Because that worked out so great for us the last three times. Who? L.O was an OL coach. JD was a WR coach Coach I was a recruiting coord.
-
No. Why do we want a D2 coach? L.O is looking good at D2 also. I want either a BCS level coordinator or a constant winner from a D1-AA or whatever the hell it's called now. A slightly above average D2 coach....Really?

Ouch. Contract or not, Dr P can't let this continue after this season.
-
Yeah, I remember CK and I arguing about that before the season.

I don't think there has ever been a worse team in major college football than the 2011 Zips. We won 1 game against a lower level team and then lost by 1 point to another bad team. Other than that, we have been destroyed in every game.

Want Ianello Fired? Send the Message to Dr. P
Buckzip replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips Football
I think Dr P knows their is a problem. He can see by the team record and the stands at home games. Nothing we say to him will make a difference. He knows how the fans feel. If UA can't eat the rest of the contract, they won't eat the rest of the contract. -
I'm sure there are as well. But will they? The Paterno machine is alive and well in Pennsylvania. It has become cultlike (see riots to support Paterno). There aren't too many elected officials who want to risk their future elections on a complete investigation. The only solution at this point is Federal involvement. The Feds are already looking into the accuracy of reports submitted to them pertaining to this issue. My understanding is schools are required to submit to the Federal government reports on campus crime and this may have been covered up or not fully reported. I think this is just the tip of the ice and much more about Paterno and others is going to surface. Always remember my Zips friends, we never really know much about the people we see on TV. When you hear reports about what great people like Paterno and Tressel are, you should really question how well the people saying that know them. A lot of the time, they have things in their past that make the opposite true. Just curious, is there a reason that you had to use a guy that enabled a child rapist to do his thing and a guy that covered up that his players were selling there own stuff for tats in the same sentence? I take it that in your world those things are similar. I remember a couple months ago you were bragging how awesome JoePa was.
-
Both universities make so much money from the sport, they are willing to hide any wrong doing so they can continue to benefit financially. Both AD's had little control over their head coaches. As far as football is concerned, the results may be the similar, a change at the head coaching position. I think there are similarities. The differences are obvious.Apples and grenades. Oranges would be too close for what you are comparing. The OSU thing wasn't a coverup by anyone but the coach. This is a coverup by the entire higher ups of the university. This isn't over free tats...This is child rape...Do you really think they belong in the same sentence????????
-
I don't really see anyone here enjoying it. This is beyond disgusting. This isn't free tats or free shoes, or any of that minor BS. This is way beyond college sports.
-
You would lose that bet very badly. For you to even compare the 2 says a lot.
-
Which is totally irrelevant to the fact that the statement summarizes Paterno's testimony to the grand jury. By all publicly available evidence to this point, Paterno did nothing wrong.Buckzip, I know of all the people posting on this forum that you have shown the greatest concern over seeing a Big 10 coach unfairly accused of transgressions based on assumptions rather than clear and compelling evidence. I would like to hear the almighty JoePa speak in his own words about this. This is disgusting. As for being unfairly accused. This is a whole lot worse than anything else we have discussed. There is evidence here and it is criminal.

Prepared statement by someone else.
