Many times coaches are fired right after their season near the end of November and a replacement isn't named until after bowl season because coaches are still coaching. 28 days is not as rare as it sounds here.

Interviewed not offered. Ok

Interesting that he says he was offered the job twice and turned it down.

OSU already hired their QB coach/OC and LSU has Studwara. Unless Stud get a HC job somewhere that isn't happening at LSU.

Paul Winters Overall Record (Wayne State)
Buckzip replied to afootball's topic in Akron Zips Football
No. Why would we? See if someone at the I-AA level will give you a try with that record first, and we'll take a look at you again next time we need a coach. That's what I think. He's barely above 500 in a lower division. Even the D1aa guys aren't calling him up. I get the Akron love and all, but geez. PW is settling big time. Even if he could do at Akron what he did at WSU, do we really want to be a 500 team? I understand that right now that sounds great, but if he gets us to 500 and we stay there for the next 10 years that won't be a good thing. Akron fans are so apathetic that they are happy with average. That's sad. IMHO. -

After reading your post, I can respond with a clear....No. Thanks for your ongoing obsession with what I write. Nice response. I didn't think you had it in you to actually consider yourself may be the problem. About what I expected. I'm not interested in most of what you write other than to laugh at you for thinking you know so much more than you really do. Please carry on.

Paul Winters Doesn't Want to Win at Akron
Buckzip replied to NanNewWin's topic in Akron Zips Football
I respect your opinion. Will you support him if hired or continue negative bashing like some?? And one other question...were you a "no" when Tressell was hired at OSU from YSU?? And did you support him after he got there?? (well...technically that is 2) Yes, I will support him if hired. However, when he fails I will also say I told you so. As for Tressel, no I was happy when he was announced at OSU. He won multiple NC and had a great, great proven track record of success at a division only 1 below, not multiple levels below. -
GP1, just a quick question. Have you ever thought it is you and not everyone else that has the problem? In case you are wondering what I am talking about, I have now seen a few different times you have mentioned that posters need to learn reading comprehension. I have also seen you criticize other peoples posting style. Perhaps the reason that you feel so many others need reading comprehension classes is because you aren't nearly as smart as you think you are and maybe, just maybe, some of your posts don't make as much sense typed out as they do in your head when you think them up. JMHO.

Of the supposed "finalists"... Who's your choice
Buckzip replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
Maybe he didn't, but I'm sure his lawyers did. This was a done deal over a month before it was officially announced. Don't believe coaches anymore than politicians. -
Very good. Very creative. I laughed too. Vehemently is in my vocabulary. But, I don't believe I've used it in this case. I think that the folks in favor of his hiring are much more emotional. It's just sad for me to think that my alma mater would even consider a D-II coach, with a mediocre record, who was part of a staff who failed here once before. I'm an old guy. I've been around Akron Athletics a long time, and I'd like to think that after 25 years of D-1A football, we should be able to do much, much better than that. Maybe we can't. And it frustrates me, and I am going to voice my frustration. But, thanks for the laugh. I needed that. Wow, it must be the holiday season and there is magic in the air. I agree with skipzip again. Miracles do happen...

When Tressell was named the OSU head coach, I knew plenty of people who had the same "little league" complaint about him. Your comment about Winters having just a "slightly above" average record was the same thing I heard when OSU hired Earle Bruce. Earle's over-all record was just a bit above .500 when he was hired, but that was because he had taken over two losing programs and it took him a few years to build them into winners. What has Paul Winters done that would make anyone believe he would be a good coach? Just took a crappy program and made it steadily better, and now has it among the best in its class. That sounds like a good coach to me. Someone who gets the most out of his players. Bob Huggins was a only coach in the basketball "little leagues" before Akron took a chance on him. Of course, so was Hipsher. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Apples and Oranges. Earl Bruce was known as 8-3 Earl. That is great by Akron standards but got him fired where he was. Tressel had won multiple NC at YSU. He was being courted for other big jobs before OSU. He was offered the Miami, Fl job a couple years earlier and turned it down and they hired Coker. Geez, we want to get Akron football on the map and the best you guys can come up with is a D2 coach that improved a lousy team. To this day, he has still won absolutely nothing. If he was such a great coach, you would be r eading other schools, even D1aa courting him. But you aren't. This isn't really worth arguing about. We all have our own opinions. Perhaps we will bring this up in a few years when Akron has improved all the way to 4-8 and maybe even 6-6. After all, that is improvement. I don't know about you all, but I want to win championships and leave the MAC. I think some of you are just happy to get to 500. I know we have to start somewhere, but I would like to start with a proven coach. -

Au contraire. He's somehow managed to get Buckzip and skip-zip to wholeheartedly agree on something. That's worthy of a Nobel Peace prize nomination Oh crap. I give. Hire Winters...... -

What did Brian Kelly do? Took over a successful Lakers program and continued to win, whoopity-do. That got him the CMU job, where he took a team that had been down for 7 seasons and righted the ship. Kelly's record at CMU 19-16 in three seasons, one of those being 10-4 so 9-12 the two years prior? But people consider him a little more than a good coach. Winters has a slightly above average record? He took over a team that hadn't had a winning season in a decade and hadn't had significant success since 1975. They didn't even have all 38 scholarships given out nor people willing to take them when he got there. It's funny some of you on here are "what have you done for me lately" type people yet you dismiss his current success to focus on the very early part of his career there. He took a kid that should have had talent (Joe Long, Jake Long's brother) and made him work so that he could actually show that talent. He will likely have 3 people in the NFL when everything is said done, from a D-2 school. He knows how to develop talent, he was a successful OC in the MAC. What do you people have against him? So because Brian Kelley made it that now means that all D2 coaches are future ND coaches? Give me a break. That logic makes no sense. -

I am still stumped as to what Winters have ever done that anyone here thinks he would be a good HC. He has coached in the little league and has a slightly above record. So he is having a good season this year. He has done nothing. -

Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?
Buckzip replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Who was the only one to mention Narduzzi in the Wheel of Fortune thread? The idea that they would hire an only-recently-successful small college coach over a guy with Narduzzi's resume? That's laughable, and predictable. Add scary to the list too. -
Nick Saban. He loves a challenge.
-
Of course he is. Pick the defensive guy who has no chance of getting hired because the mac is an offensive league. It gives you something to bitch about during this off season and the first losing season. You will have 18 months of material. Yes, the MAC is an offensive conference, so maybe hire a defensive guy to give Akron a little edge there. If he is the right coach, I don't care if he is an offense guy or a defense guy. As long as he hires a solid OC, I don't see a problem. There are plenty of programs that have defensive minded head coaches but have great offenses. Beckman at Toledo was a defense guy but had a good offense at UT.

Nebraska has a pretty bad offense. Of course that may just be what style Pelini wants though.
-
Not true at all. Another guy just took a HC job last week and all of his potential assistants are coaching bowl teams. He is already on the recruiting trail hard and will finish with a top 10 class. It can be done if you get the right coach. It needs to be a name coach that brings excitement.

Thanks for bringing me up in your immaturity rant there pal. Geez, you are a moron. I guess your case of SPS will do that to a person.
