  1. Agree. Would it be possible to get Z-TV updates more integrated with Zipsnation?
  2. Well, one comforting fact is that Temple got in despite their history of sucky-ness in f-ball.
  3. So, where was your reversible Zips hat made? Sincerely, Someone who loves AMERICA ha ha
  4. THis is the best shirt company. I'll be repping the Zips in style. http://www.homage.com/store/accessories/ha...zips-winter-hat And for good measure... http://www.homage.com/store/tees-tops/t-sh...ron/zap-em-zips
  5. I was critical of the Thomas interview, he said he didn't know where or what level Wayne St. played. I thought he was being ignorant. Well, I'm finding out he just sort of has a sarcastic sense of humor. He really does seem knowledgeable. Someone (Zach?) heard the entire interview and said it was pretty good.
  6. They definitely aren't archiving all of their interviews. I remember (and posted) about George Thomas being interviewed during the Bowden hire. On a related note, I expect the U to do everything in their power to make sure that ALL local sports media outlets have a visible presence on game days.
  7. Stuck @ work today...thanks for the game commentary. Final score?

  9. ^ How could one really dislike us? We have a kangaroo as a mascot!! p.s. pushing aside fears that this turns into an OSU thread, I completely agree that most OSU fans I know also root for Akron, just in a tepid way. I see the lack of a UA/OSU football rivalry to be a good thing in that regard. You want to win those types over, not beat them up in Lot 9...though it may be tempting sometimes.
  10. To some it's a leap of faith that the Akron market will follow. Aren't the Zips the THIRD most popular school in Akron, behind OSU and Notre Dame? Who can find that stupid fan distribution map? Anyone? Anyhow we're all speculating at this point. We simply don't know how Northeast Ohio will react to a successful 2.0 bigger conference version of Akron football because this is unprecedented territory. Maybe a barometer can be tv ratings for basketball when Akron or K-ent is in the ncaa tourney??
  11. Joe Akron is a dumb hick.
  12. I'm sure that the people in charge can and would make a convincing sales pitch. Well produced, televised Akron games will attract the same percentage of viewers in Cleveland as they will in Canton.
  13. Thanks for the history! I (and an adventurous squirrel) was chilling in Memorial right before the teardown. I've gotta tell ya, those wooden seats were damn comfortable, and a zillion times better than those F-ing bleachers in the JAR. Someone last year made a comment about it being a cool idea to host one last game there. Well, I would've drove down for that game for sure. The JAR? No allure for me whatsoever. It's photogenic on tv, I'll give it that. And it is a great facility for intramurals, I'll give it that too. But for watching games...I hate to be negative, or worse a broken record. But our team, fans, the whole school deserves better. If the next step is fundraising for a new place? That'll be on the phone with a donation almost immediately.
  14. Keep this up Beacon Journal and I'll buy a subscription. George- welcome to the forums and thank you for your continued coverage of UA.
  15. Again I feel the need to stick up for MAC Madness B-ball...so fun!! But as far as FB goes, we can still keep the rivalry with K-ent I'm sure. In fact, being in different conferences may even make it more interesting I can't say I ever took much advantage of our close confines here in the MAC outside Ford Field and away games to Ohio U. I'd miss OU, if you can't have fun there you're in a coma. Would love to get out to W. Michigan someday (Bells Brewing!) but not too many MAC schools have that away game allure/atmosphere that makes you want to go through the trouble. I agree with everything Wadszip said btw. on Big East being our best bet.
  16. Good interview. So good, that the first caller was a big time K-ent fan who said it was hard not to like the guy. Oh, and the best part. One of them asked why a high schooler should pick Akron over anyone else. Coach flat out said Akron is the best choice because "I promise I'll be coaching there. I'm staying in Akron. I'm not going anywhere."
  17. Talking MAC Tourny on Kiley and Booms http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/
  18. Big East, or more like "Medium Everywhere" would be such a weird place for us: Legends: Akron Cincy Louisville Rutgers Navy Central FLA South FLA Leaders: San Diego St. Houston Boise SMU Memphis ????????? Best case scenario would have been if the Big East kept WVU, SYR, UConn and Pitt and added us, but it wasn't meant to be. As weird as this would be, I'd still take the "Medium Everywhere" scenario over Conference USA/MWC. Nothing sounds less alluring than the prospect of road trips to Marshall. Yuck.
  19. -edit- You guys got this thread so far off topic you confused me!!
  20. Bunch of bombs....in the air....hee hee
  21. http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldohioschool...stream/lightbox While tearing it down would certainly be wasteful, I do think the exterior could certainly use some updates/sprucing up. Some larger windows would do wonders for this building. The original architecture is pretty great, but the more recent addition, much like the original Natatorium, comes off looking way too fortress like.
  22. Colo St. Wyoming UNLV New Mex So. Mill Marshall E. Carolina UAB Tulsa Rica Tulane UTE Hmm, I'm not too excited by this conference. p.s. your Zips buttons are way cool.
  23. Most intriguing... With WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, and UConn gone how much prestige will the Big East hold for Akron? Rutgers also wants out by the way. I know this is the football thread, but I'd really miss MAC Madness at the Q!!
  24. All right I won't go further off topic on the Chase thread (Way to go buddy!!!) but here's my take. Do I think we get enough press in CLE? Nope. I think we all want to see more Zips in the media. I just believe that it's far more constructive to try and change this; to try and combat the perception that there aren't enough Akron fans to warrant more coverage. It's a lot more productive, I think. Also, I've seen enough losing the past 20 years. I'm tired of it. I don't want to pick another fight that's impossible to fight and impossible to win. Does Akron have better media, arts, entertainment, sporting events than Cleveland? Certainly not. But it doesn't matter to me because it's the same market. And things aren't too bad, really. MAC Madness at the Q gets really good coverage. Before Akron-Can't games WKNR is all hilarious smack talk. We're really in the same boat as Cleveland State. Trying to elbow our way into Northeast Ohio's major league/OSU-centric market. Sure getting more Zips coverage continues to be a challenge, but I'd love to see every Zips fan be up for that challenge, calling/writing/emailing all the NEO media outlets and asking for more damn coverage!
  25. Not "Joe" at all. Just to clarify, this was a bunch of frat guys, at AKRON, ripping on OUR football team, on OUR campus. I wanted to fight them all.
