  1. Anyone see this? Yesterday around 6:30ish was watching ESPN at the bar. No volume, unfortunately. Glanced up and saw AKRON playing!! Bobby Knight was breaking down game strategy and the segment featured Zips highlights. I remember seeing Steve Mcneese vs. Notre Dame and, I think, Brett McKnight posting up vs. KEN.i.T. There was a white board, and it said something like "Offense: Athletic" or the like. I searched ESPN but the segment isn't up, but I'm betting it will be there later today. Anyhow, it looked very good. And very complimentary to our Zips!!!!
  2. Just curious if you know this to be a fact or just think it might be. My amateur evaluation would be that putting in continuous rows of seats at a steeper angle from floor to ceiling shouldn't really require major structural changes to the building. You'd essentially be building on top of the structure that's already in place. But if there's an engineering reason why that wouldn't work, then I'd agree that major structural changes to the building don't make good economic sense when compared with the cost of a new facility optimized for the future. Hey Dave! I'm solely going on opinion, I'm not an architect. As for the needed improvements being "major," well, one example would be the lobby/ticket buying area. It's an absolute mess, and was obviously designed without much consideration of how crowds would affect the function of it. Dead of winter. Lines of ticket buyers stretching across, blocking the main entrance into the building??? Someone threw out a number....$10 million. I have no idea. But going on that figure, that's a considerable amount of money that the U could put toward a shared facility with the City. Done the right way, this new arena could lease out spaces for Winking Lizard and other private entities who can help offset costs. Shoot, attach a hotel or dorms or condominiums into the structure. The JAR is a very nice place for intramurals. But throwing a bunch of money into the place right now just seems a bad investment to me.
  3. Agree Dave. Looked to me like the jet lag finally caught up to them.
  4. I'm afraid the only renovation of the JAR worth pursuing would cost way too much. Really, it would have to be a major structural overhaul to realize the improvements we all want. The JAR may be located close to other athletic facilities, but can someone explain how this is a benefit that will increase attendance? The best way to court better attendance/atmosphere is to re-locate to some place that's highly visible where spinoff development opportunities (bars, restaurants, hotels) can really take off on the street level. Think Arena District in Columbus.
  5. We all know about the Eastern European strippers working these days. I don't blame him. There are plenty of organized crime families to get a job with in E. Europe these days. Maybe he could run a small gambling ring and then move his way up to a mid level manager in whatever family he joins. If he does, I say best of luck. Would it really hurt to say one more year though? I think he should stay. There are always openings in organized crime. Uh, ya know organized crime is pretty prevalent here in 'Murica, right?
  6. The Akron Connections!!! RIght on.
  7. Great point. And it was so cool being able to sneak in a bit online at work. Props to NCAA website.
  8. Nice first post. Welcome to the board!!!
  9. Kentucky, Ohio State, UNC, Marquette, Duke, Arizona, UConn, San Diego State, Florida, BYU, Wisconsin, Butler, Virginia Commonwealth, Florida State, Richmond or Kansas. I'm sick of Duke. And I've already seen enough Jimmer highlights and commentary....yes, he's Morman....we know, enough already! Born in San Diego. I doubt they're the best team. But I'm pulling for San Diego State.
  10. I'm not as down on the MAC tournament. I thought it was a nice experience overall. Yes I agree the MAC needs to do a better job promoting. I think they should give the schools more incentives to get their fans to make the road trip. Maybe get the entire conference at the Q. This way, every school's fans can make plans to attend far in advance. Parties are contagious....make the long weekend a huge pseudo campus event. Then local businesses would get even more on board.
  11. No reply on the block by Marshall?? Two misses by Diggs....darn.... ND and 1.... I'm jinxing us guys.
  12. Nik you're killing me!!!!
  13. I'm NOT liking the new offense lol. 10-0 run Irish. Zeke 0-6. COme on Zips!!!
  14. I am LOVING this attention for our Zips!!! Also, on Andy's update: I just want to explain to my fellow Can't State alumni who have harped on me for enjoying the ride Akron is on. You need Akron to play well in the NCAA tourney. It is good for Can't State and it is good for the MAC. The MAC moved up two RPI spots this week already because Can't, Buffalo, and Ohio University won. The fact the MAC gets little respect, like Akron as a 15 seed and only one team in, is based on a few things. MAC schools not willing to schedule tougher games and universities willingness to spend a little extra cash to bring in top teams. But, the NCAA can't argue what the MAC has done in the past few days. If Akron can can pull off a monumental upset, it's good for Can't and it's good for the MAC. Fear the Roo, at least when they are not facing Can't. FEAR THE ROO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Me and my buds were up late and Roo-ting for K-ent last nite. I swear they fell asleep for roughly half the game lol. The MAC is our conference. Our 15 seed and "lack of respect" is national news. So, seeing the Flashes win just makes us look better imho.
  16. Great idea B&G....I just left a little note too. Again, the media gauges interest by the number of comments left after articles. This is a way for us to let the ABJ know to keep the Zips coverage coming!!!
  17. Today on WKNR, Reghai and Roda are saying "the best recruiter in the nation" is JEFF BOALS!! Saying he was instrumental in getting the A-K to five straight MAC championships. Thanks Jeff.
  18. Ha ha.....no doubt she'll be getting her masters at Can't State.
  19. There's no "I" in "roster."
  20. Memo to Channel 5.....YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Hillarious! They may beat us sometimes on the field/court....but they can't ever....EVER beat Zippy. Had some beers with Can't fans at Hairy Buffalo on Friday. Not a bad group of kids. You can bet I was roo- ting for them vs. BSU for THE BEST CASE SCENARIO WHICH CAME TRUE. p.s. When the 10 hot girls from Can't State wear shirts saying "Screw the Roo" I find that flattering. I have a vivid imagination I suppose.
  22. Seattle Sounders host LA Galaxy Tues 9:30pm on ESPN HD http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=6210731
  23. Good Lord....look at Nikolas shirt!!!!!!
  24. Oh man, everybody is piling on Can't today. Those bitter, irrational loser fans are calling and emailing the station and complaining. And the hosts are calling them out for being pathetic. I'm so glad to hear those geniuses want to run Geno Ford out of town (Ha!) and they're actually missing work because of their sorrows. Oh man, one caller just said that it's better to have a shot to win the NIT than to lose in the NCAA first round...Chris Fedor, Tony Rizzo and Aaron Goldhamer basically called this dude an idiot.....that could be the FIRST time those three ever agreed on anything. To heck with Notre Dame. Lets beat up on Can't for a few more hours!! http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/...callsign=WKNRAM
