  1. Roda "I'm getting a lot of concerned tweets from people who are worried they'll lose you" Porter "Why in the world would I want to leave (laughs) we just won the title....For me it's about sticking around.....to build your own brand and develop champions for life with your student athletes."
  2. Kenny Roda will be interviewing Coach Porter "during the five o'clock hour" so tune in. Better yet, call the show!! And you can always email the station at http://www.espncleveland.com/ or text 50352
  3. I loved reading these, thanks for posting! Classy bunch here in the MAC.
  4. Right on! Agree that the quote captures the mood perfectly!!!
  5. Hail to Akron's soccer Zips -- champions of the NCAA, and even better, friends for life: Terry Pluto <H5>Published: Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 1:25 AM Updated: Wednesday, December 15, 2010, 1:51 AM Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer AKRON, Ohio -- From another coach, it may sound like a self-serving sales job. But when Caleb Porter talks about how his University of Akron men's soccer team not only won a national championship, but "did it the right way" ... well, you believe him. It was about 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning when the Zips arrived at their campus following an all-night flight from California. They staggered off the bus into wind chills of 4-below, with about 25 family members, friends and fans awaiting the first national champions in Zips history. http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/blog/index....er_zips_--.html </H5>
  6. Who do you think you are Dave in Green? We must stay negative. We must make untrue broad generalizations like Akron hates the Cavs. We must take every opportunity to rip on things we hate instead of simply enjoying the moment. (sarcasm alert) Actually, the untrue broad generalization is that Akron hates LeBron. It's actually downright laughable. It's fueled by some of the Cleveland loyalists who absolutely CAN'T STAND that LeBron talks about Akron, and that people in Akron still support him. I was at a picnic last summer, and I overheard a group at another table bashing LeBron. Then someone said, "Can you believe those idiots in Akron cheered for him at the Bike-A-Thon?". I almost could not contain my laughter. They are enraged by this. And they are probably some of the same people who engage in highly productive activities such as yelling obscenities as they drive by his house, and tape his old jersey to the side of their car with some derogatory change in his name. In the real world, people change employers every day. You get over it and go out and get new employees to replace them, and you move on. Oh brother....

  8. As far as championships go, don't forget about the Cleveland Crunch!!! Their 95 title game was absolutely incredible. Anyhow, I think the fact that Akron is the best team out of the 200? or so schools in NCAA is pretty incredible. GO ZIPS
  9. Hey man, don't be a stranger. Come back and visit often!!!
  10. They had a nice segment on Zips winning the title on channel 43/19. Listen, CSU has the same complaints. This has nothing to do with Cleveland hating on Akron. The fact is not every city follows college sports like Columbus, Ohio. And further more, the support for college soccer here is still in its infancy. In a pro-sports centric city/region like northeast Ohio I was happy with what I saw on the news last night. Please, lets enjoy this and stop mentioning LeBron and Ohio State for ten minutes.
  11. Loved seeing this comment!!! nsparks923 (12/12/2010 at 7:28 PM) Report Violation Great win. Congrats to my Alma Mater. Go Zips!
  12. Hi there Topcard. Thanks for visiting the forum. Tough loss for your team...this could have easily gone to PK's which would've killed me. I know Coach Lolla, he's a class act. I am sure there are good days on the horizon for both of our programs. Scott in Cleveland
  13. Oops: Louisville, making its first appearance in the College Cup, finishes 21-0-3. Actually, not too big a difference. Akron is just the second Mid-American Conference athletic program to win a championship. Western Michigan, which joined the league in 1947, won NCAA men’s cross country titles in 1964 and 1965. http://www.ncaa.com/sports/m-soccer/recaps/121210aaa.html
  14. Sounds great, especially the part about the congratulatory beer!! Hope we'll all be having some congrat. beers tomorrow. Barring the much feared blizzard, I'll be heading down to Barley House. And I'll save the Angle as an emergency backup plan.
  15. Great point! We don't have enough of us to water ourselves down...we need to hit up as few places as possible and keep up the positive kanga-energy. Glad to hear Barleyhouse was outrageous. And I'm making it a point to patronize the Tap House because their owner is such a Zips fan.
  16. Represent my man!!!! I've heard there are 30 former Zips players here this weekend. Hope to meet some of them tonight if there's a Zip Fiesta. I did see the former GoZips blogger -- damn, I apologize for forgetting his name -- from Tucson. Good guy to say the least. GO ZIPS!!!! On to
  17. Whoa, I forgot all about the Old Angle. I'm really torn...I want to experience the game with as many AK fans as possible, but heading south from Cleveland is gonna be rough on me today. Decisions! p.s. I'm really glad that with BH and TH we have two places on this thread vying for our business, vs. the ZERO attention we've gotten in the past.
  18. Confession to make....I grew up in NJ playing with Ken Lollas younger brother John. Ken would sometimes act as guest coach during practices. Then in high school we had to run the dreaded "Kenny Lolla drills" that were basically two hours of sprinting. I was glad- and very suprised to meet up again with Coach Lolla here at Akron. Ken and John are absolutely fine people. That being said, it would be an amazing story for us to go up against Louisville to win this thing. I don't care about UNC, I want our Zips to play the number one seed. GO ZIPS
  19. WTF...we could have raised some money for Zippy right here on this forum. Good publicity for ZN. If anything, it may have guilted the U into paying. It sucks the world won't be seeing the best mascot in the world on tv this weekend.
  20. Now why did you have to go and do something constructive when it's so much easier to just complain about things... Really we here at ZN have to do more if we want to see our teams covered. It takes just a minute to call, email or drop a positive comment after a story. Way to go Zip_ME87 GO ZIPS
  21. Welcome to the fourm BarleyZip!!! Thanks for hosting the soccer watch party. Gotta ask, anything in the special department for micro/craft/local beer fans? GO ZIPS
