  1. I hope they do stick around! And now the initiative has a name...the "drink the Gaucho student body into SB Rowdies" fund. I'll pledge 5 dollars to the cause. It will help to have someone we can trust to facilitate the delivery of said alcohol....could be a major flaw in the design. I mean really, who on this forum would you trust? p.s. convenient kep place right on campus!!! http://www.kegnbottle.com/kegs.htm
  2. Looks like we're the popular choice of the UCSB fanbase right now. In a gesture of good will I'd be willing to pay a few bucks to buy these fans some beer in exchange for some temporary loyalty. We are too close to a championship not to take advantage of every given opportunity! Anyone else interested in setting this up? This could be unprecedented. Think about doing a small part to create a rabid and drunk pseudo-fanbase for our SocceRoos out in beautiful Santa Barbara. Scott in Cleveland
  3. I thought this topic was important enough to deserve its own thread. So far I've heard Barley House and Tap House. I'd like to hear what the geniuses of Zipsnation have to say about which is the better option. I know all the pluses and minuses of Barley House. Tap House, given its location is more of a mystery to me. Any how, with each choice I don't think it's too much to expect the audio on the tv's to be turned up. One thing though...if I was a business owner I would definitely be posting on this forum telling why my place would be the best. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Barley House was owned by some out of state corporate conglomerate. Looking forward to making the drive down from Cleveland, watching the Zips win another two games with a host of other die hard Akron fans!!!! Scott
  4. How the hell does a top 25 team LOSE to the Miami Redhawks??? This conference is so dysfunctional....
  5. Weather update for Sat!!! Think I'll be wearing a Santa hat. 1pm 31 Degrees
  6. but expecting them to stop wearing OSwho crap to Akron games/events, is perfectly reasonable. +1. When this happens, the Rowdies should ridicule the guilty person with chants to the point of utter humiliation. Perhaps that would curtail it from happening again. Yeah, because then they'd want to come to another game for sure... Who cares what they wear? They are a PAYING customer who, on that night, made the decision to go to an Akron Zips game over other forms of entertainment. If they have a good game experience, they'll probably come back. If they're ridiculed for wearing a shirt of a school that isn't a rival, isn't in our conference, and never plays us because some of our fans have an inferiority complex with Ohio State, they will probably say screw it and go to the movies next time. When we start selling out games, you can start being concerned with what fans wear. If it's not graphic or vulgar, who cares? Good God...it's no surprise our fan base (especially student fan base) has trouble growing with short-sighted, ignorant attitudes like this. Our fan base has trouble growing because of the short-sightedness of allowing people to think they can get away with wearing the colors of a school we actively compete against for recruits and TV time. How can you be taken seriously when nobody cares that half the fans are wearing the gear of another team and not the one they're watching? Complacency kills. +1. Not caring sets us up to always be second best. I can just imagine what might be said to someone wearing Akron gear to an OSU event. When I lived in C-bus I wore my Akron gear all over OSU campus and to sports events. Never got heckled. Ever. Quite the contrary, I've always been treated with respect.
  7. Great feeling to get the win today. IU came out very aggressive and set the tone in the first. I was really impressed, there seemed to be twice as many red jerseys on the ball. Second half we gained our composure, got some great pressure on them and controlled the tempo. Can't wait until Sat!!! p.s. Thanks to the dozen or so Hoosier fans getting the hill all riled up! Have a safe, long trip back to Bloomington. GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!

  9. RIght now on ESPN Cleveland 850AM Michael Reghai (via telephone) is talking up the game with host and Ken+ grad Greg Brinda. Started with praise for both Dambrot and Waters. Glad he's spent more time talking Akron though, and the overall state of the MAC. He said it's notable that in recent memory there has been close to no NBA talent in the conference, and the lack of individual names has been complicit in making us a one bid conference. Finally, he said that he hopes that Zeke is the end of the MAC/NBA drought. Me too!!! GO ZIPS.
  10. Getting my tickets today and bringing five friends!!!
  11. There is a time to stop blaming the media and start doing something positive about it. To a large degree, it's our fault we're barely on the radar of the Cleveland AND AKRON media.\ The complaining is getting old, and only fuels the incorrect and apathetic belief that we can't do anything to change. If we want more media coverage (for the record, I do!) our job as fans to call in, write, email, fax or do whatever is necessary to make our voices heard.
  12. It is easier to bash those in the media, rather than to encourage (and thank them for) increased coverage of Akron and the MAC.
  13. Okay, thanks, I appreciate the effort. We are Zip fans. We are used to the long and hard way to get what we want. You should see what I had to go through to not get my Wagner jersey this year. I can only imagine. Probably as much pain as I was just to get our media passes for the soccer season. I think we didn't have them for the first week or two. And the same with the basketball season. We literally got them the day before the home opener for the Men's team. This shows to me an endemic problem right now. Why in the world would the athletic dept. not be closer with our own IN HOUSE media dept???
  14. Maybe because the players and most of the crowd weren't even alive when AC/DC was last relevant.
  15. Just chalk this all up to the magical aura of the U of A "We are small time" experience!! Who is responsible for this? What the hell good are brand new facilities if you don't change the apathetic, cultural loser mentality?
  16. So the Zips would be in a better position if Cleveland disappeared, and it could rely on all of Akron's AWESOME media? I just don't think the University does a good enough job getting the media interested in our sports. Anyhow, not to get too far off topic, we're all upset over losing. The way things were going it was bound to happen sometime. Hope this is a wake up call that the team can build on. EXACTLY my point. This is the painfully rare exception that proves the rule. I've been watching the Cleveland-centric televised newscasts for over two decades now, waiting, waiting, waiting for some recognition and acknowledgment to be shown to Akron. Has never come. If the past is a good indicator of the future, it will never come. If Cleveland chooses to pretend Akron doesn't exist, we can return the favor. The King sure did. Cleveland can crumble into the murky lake. Go Akron! Go Zips!
  17. Welcome to ZN Magnus. A lot of people are looking forward to a renewed CSU/Akron rivalry. You guys were very very impressive at the WVU game last year- was glad to catch that one! I gotta say, being a Horizon team, I really think you guys are seriously missing out on the Tournament at the Q. Great great atmosphere. For me it's definitely highlight of the season.
  18. Who the heck is on the Ianello bandwagon? I don't see questioning the merits of Coach Fickel the same as defending Coach I. For the love of God, I'd rather have eguins the Youngstown State ZN poster coaching than Ianello right now.
  19. As far as I know, Zippy did not fall off a Segway. Anyone else notice how our program went to complete hell after that incident?
  20. Hey Hartville, did you sleep though this "rat-bastard" Cleveland media portrayal of the Zips? http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?showtopic=20218
