The Really Big show on ESPN 850 just started and already the topic is Akron vs. Can't and the MAC tournament. You can listen online at wknr.com. Come on guys, call into the station!!! Anyhow, I'm being interviewed there this morning so I'll be able to rip Can't State live on the air. GO ZIPS

Echoes the topic on WKNR this morning: Why OSU isn't drawing better. Despite the obvious differences in programs, there are similarities here, I think. And just like Gaffney, the conclusion of the WKNR callers is that the Schott is not an exciting environment for the students. Too many of the best seats are expensive, reserved for elderly, "low energy" fans lol. The JAR is seriously lacking, we all at ZN know this. I just hope the new AD is working on a plan for some drastic, much needed changes. p.s. On the bright side, it's really good to read the ABJ covering the issue

Sweet. The just showed Zips highlights on Channel 19 News...even BEFORE the OSU game!!!!!Looking good, LETS GO ZIPPERS.I can't wait until MAC Madness at the Q.
-
Mark, you bring 30 people to the game and I promise to politely, though reservedly clap when Syracuse first comes on the field lol. Very cool. Akron is a city where all the cool things are not so easy to find. You're best shot is to rely on local knowledge. Hope you have a great time here. ScottGO ZIPS!!!

Yawn...wake me up when we get to the Q.

This is good news for sure.Right now I'd take even the Maryland-I over this weak, stupid, "can't get a 1st down on 3rd and 1" spread offense we've had to endure.

What do Zips Fans Really think?
scottditzen replied to MDZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Add me to favoring the Soccer title.Tough choice...I just think being THE elite team in a given sport would be so awesome. And unlike the B-ball option, the Zips aren't seen LOSING on national tv again in the next round. I've had enough of losing. -
Well Said!!!!

Very good article, thanks CK.

Welcome to the forum!!! It's always great to hear from more Akron fans. Man, sometimes I think we take Zipsnation for granted....I remember pre internet feeling like I was the only Zips fan in the universe lol. THANKS ZN

I couldn't (respectfully, of course) disagree more with your sentiments. Is there any reason whatsoever for the Cleveland media to believe that THERE IS A DEMAND FOR MORE U OF AKRON COVERAGE? For goodness sakes, there's no reason to believe that even the Akron media supports the Zips. The Beacon Journal? WZIP anyone??? I listen to WKNR virtually all day while I'm working....maybe once a month a listener will call to talk about Akron, or about MAC sports in general. They'll have MAC coaches on, but I never hear callers commenting on those great interviews. I live in Cleveland. When the MAC tournament is going on the media, imho has done a great job in an effort to promote those games...yet many games are sparsely attended...why? Is that the media's fault too? I'm sorry, but up here the perception is that nobody cares about Akron or the MAC on a day to day basis. I see neither an organized nor a grass roots effort to counter that perception. This can change, of course. If there was a groundswell of calls and emails letting the Cleveland radio and tv stations know that you want more on Akron and the MAC, there you go. Are you guys ready to make your voice heard, or is it too easy just to say F*** off to the Cleveland media and accomplish what, exactly? Instead of blaming someone for a problem, why not instead think of positive steps to remedy the situation? Couldnt be more correct B&G!! Television is justification to those cleveland lovers of OSU, CSU, etc. They want nothing to do with Akron U and dont want to see/hear about them either. Its an incredible handicap that we live with (no TV station) yet were not alone. Same goes for BG, Miami, OU, And Can't so complaining about it is futile. It was refreshing to see/ hear the interest we got last year when we made the NCAA tournement. U are correct, even the powers that be at 3,5,and 19 didnt ignore us then.

I see the blight issue with Akron And Cleveland being simply a reflection of the state of public rail transportation in Ohio. The rails are used for freight, train travel is (sadly) not widely used here and there's virtually zero attention paid to aesthetics. If we could actually use those facilities then the tracks would once again become a source of pride rather than a nuisance. In an alternate universe there is a majestic rail station bridging the U and downtown, and it's constantly crowded with travelers coming and going from Columbus, Cleveland, Canton, Buffalo, Toronto, Chicago, NYC etc etc. But, the government instead invested in highways and subsidized suburban sprawl, and it's a big reason why our cities look like a bomb went off.

Inspirational story got me wondering....who was our player that overcame injury from a car accident where his best friend (who was in the Army) died? Amazing article, but I can't find the article. Anyone remember??? -

Hey guys, before we get down on ourselves, check out some of the things being said on U Va's forum:Congrats to Zips on a fantastic season, and GO HOOS! ** -- SixerHoo Sun Dec 13 2009 3:58:40 PM DAMN RIGHT! What a great team the Zips have! in my mind deserving of the seed... -- The_Superhoo Sun Dec 13 2009 4:00:04 PM They belong in the ACC ** -- Hoogle.com Sun Dec 13 2009 4:04:13 PM Couldn't have asked for a tougher opponent. Akron fought valiantly. ** -- MaizeAndBlueWahoo Sun Dec 13 2009 4:01:50 PM -
I'm watching 19 Action News, they just had a really nice little segment about Akron soccer. They showed the winning PK and it is still electrifying to watch. And I was watching Channel 3 news last night, they also had some great comments. If we can win it all, I believe many casual sports fans in Northeast Ohio will be very quick to jump on the bandwagon....this region desperately needs a title!!!!

When I think of the position of TE I think of guys like Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez. These are freakishly amazing players and I'm not sure they're from the suburbs or not. Not saying we can get that type of elite player here, who knows, but a good TE that's big, tall, can block and catch will present huge matchup problems for a defense. Especially in the MAC, where D backs seem to average 5'9.

Hard fought game, fairly even, but......ZIPS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
This post reminds me.....OUR HELMETS ARE AWESOME. It is sad that I'm happy about that comment, but I am. Choosing the proper scheme is step ONE of ten that Rob has to do to have a dominating defense at Akron. Good luck, I like his start.PS He looks good in that cap.
