I don't know which thread you'd be referring to, but there was one transfer thread where a few posters chose to bash a guy who turned out to not even be transferring and another thread where a guy came on here and made claims about a kid having horrible grades which turned out to be unfounded. It's ok to speculate about things like this as long as it stays good spirited and isn't totally unfounded. Obviously Rasor dug this up on another teams site so there's something to it.

If anyone saw after the pick Mel Kiper had a lot of great things to say about Hixon and commented that the Denver WR core just got a lot better with that selection. Not bad for a guy who wasn't even invited to the combine!
-
That's not a picture of me, that's a picture that was on gozips.com. I like it because it shows that even Can't State fans are now forced to recognize where our program is going and who their daddy is.
-
Well NEVERMIND!!! I guess the Brookhart/Shanahan connection was at work here, because Hixon just went in the 4th to Denver, higher than I think any of us expected him to go. Congrats to Domenik!!! I know he'll do the Zipsnation proud.
-
Another would've been good option for him was Pittsburgh, but they've already drafted two WR in the first 3 rounds. Cleveland and Pittsburgh seemed to be the teams with the most interest, so now I'm thinking Hixon may not get drafted at all which would be a huge mistake for all 32 NFL teams in my opinion. Whoever picks him up as a FA will be getting one heckuva deal.
-
I think it's time to stop feeding the 1-AA troll. The guy obviously knows his program is inferior otherwise he wouldn't be referring back to 20-30 years ago.
-
Butler, Bryan Howe, Mike Schepp, Doug Fife are all guys that come to mind as oft-injured. Most schools do see a flurry of transfers around this time of year so it'll be interesting to see if the Zips lose anybody.

You know, Akron lost at home to Middle Tennessee in the 21st century too--just like 20 years ago. Some things never change. By the way, I'm not an old fart. I've never even heard of a Commador 64. Congratulations, we lost at home to you guys with a new coach and new schemes at home in a huge UPSET and were thoroughly humiliated by it. Once our guys got a feel for the coaches and system, we came into your place in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year for us and a banner year for you and thoroughly dominated your 1-AA caliber program. Congratulations on being better than us 20 years ago. Really. That's great .

The teams that have shown the most interest in him seem to be the Steelers and Browns. I'm sure he'd love to reunite with Charlie, but the best situation for him would probably be in the Pittsburgh.

Walk-ons in basketball have it a lot tougher than walk-ons in football. While preferred walk-ons in football are usually guys who have D-1 talent but where left out in the cold when the scholarships were handed out, there's so many D-1 basketball programs in the country that if you didn't get a scholarship to one of them, you probably don't belong in the MAC. While some of our best football players over the years have started their careers as walk-ons (i.e. Ryan Myers) at the moment I can't think of one basketball walkon who has played a significant role on the hardwood for us.

It is quite a complement to the Zips that, if you don't play your best game, you will lose to us. It wasn't too long ago that teams could afford quite a few mistakes vs. the Zips and still come out with a "W."FYI: I traveled to the MTSU game. If it weren't for the ref "overlooking" your WR's foot being a full 2 feet out of bounds when he caught your lone TD, MTSU probably would not have scored in that game. You guys couldn't stop Hixson...he killed you. C'mon, man. 17 points is hardly unstoppable. While it's true ya'll probably should've shut us out, it's also true we had the worst total offense in Division 1-A. Again, that's why we fired our coaches and brought in a new staff. Losing to Akron at home is unacceptable especially when you are touting an all-time record of 7-1 (now 7-2) against a former member of the Low-VC. Alright man I was trying to be courteous but since you've come on here with such a big head and started spewing garbage from another planet, let's just be honest. MTSU is not on Akron's level and probably never will be again. The loss in '04 to you guys, while somewhat understandable due to the new coaching staff, was one of the most embarrassing losses we've had in the last decade. The 17 point victory from last year doesn't begin to tell the story of how lopsided that game was. Honestly it should've been a 30+ point win. Akron has had 3 straight winning seasons, a conference championship, and a bowl appearance. We've had recruiting classes that were the envy of a lot of BCS schools the past two years. MTSU and the Sun Belt conference as a whole are full of little hick town college teams that will never be anything but warmup games for other conferences. Stop trying to put yourself on Akron's level or even above us because you aren't even close, and that's just a fact.
-
That was the first home game for a group of guys still trying to adjust to COMPLETELY different offensive and defensive schemes and feeling out a new coaching staff. Had that game been played at the end of '04 it would've looked alot more like the game in '05. From everything I've heard N. Texas is not as talented as the Blue Raider team from last year so we shouldn't have any trouble. However I don't think it'd be wise for the Zips to take anyone lightly (see CMU, Ball St. and Army...we should've been 10-2 last year).
-
Got asked the same types of questions when I predicted preseason last year a MAC Championship, and was again ridiculed after the Ball St. loss when I said things could still work out for us to get into the MACC and not to give up hope. 11-1 is what I firmly believe we should expect out of these Zips.
-
I think myself and GP1 were the only ones who predicted a MAC Championship prior to last season (I think I was told what a fool I was by half the board), and I'm going to make another bold prediction about this team this year.... 11-1, only loss being at Penn St. We as fans HAVE TO expect greatness out of the Zips. We're the defending MAC Champions, it's time to start thinking like it.

Because on the average, men in the way they are, are much more capable of instilling discipline, respect, healthy fear. That's not to say no woman can do that, but most can't because that's not in most women's nature. It's just a simple fact of life. We're much more likely to get these kinds of qualities with a man than with a woman. That's not to say that we couldn't get some pansy man who wouldn't have these qualities, or a sheman that would, but our best bet to get them is to go with a man.
-
that's what's nice about rifle we're all on equal footing competiting against each other (except when you get to the international level because the men changed things after a women beat them) just because men and women play a different style of game doesn't mean one is worse than the other. maybe you don't enjoy watching women's basketball and that's fine. personally i like all non-professional basketball.i'm just saying the qualities that we need in the next coach aren't directly related to gender. don't count out the women because they can be just as successful, but don't limit yourself to a woman either. they need to hire based on experience and a good resume not whether they have a penis or vagina. There are a lot more differences between men and women than just a penis and a vagina, no matter what our PC culture tries to tell you. Men and women are equal, but created differently. The way this team is we may need a man for the job to instill some respect and discipline.

Since there's not a whole lot of new news on the stadium let's pose a funny scenario and get some reactions. What if Mack Rhoades totally abandoned plans for the on campus stadium and instead came out with the ingenius and totally original plan of renovating the Condom Bowl?? You know, to preserve all that history.... . How would you guys feel about that??
-
I've actually talked to a lot of female athletes who say they prefer men as coaches because they feel like they exude more authority and command more respect. You can't get better with a coach you can run all over and you feel like is on your level was a point one girl made to me. Obviously there are exceptions, such as Pat Summit, whose got enough manly qualities to make anyone have a healthy fear of her, but I think a male coach would definately be worth a look for these girls who not only have played with no skill over the past four years, but no discipline as well.

VGreen is one of the best come from nothing stories you'll ever find. The guy literally went from living in a house with dirt floors with virtually nothing and little in the way of opportunities to attending college and playing in the NFL. His jersey should be retired and somebody should write a book about him.

The way I understand it, each MAC school has the power to veto once the schedule that the league puts out. The danger with it is, and why most teams don't do that, is if you veto the league can turn around and give you an even shitier schedule and then you're stuck with it because you already used your veto. Teams have used vetos in the past, as was the case last year when Can't was originally supposed to be our season opener (we had a bye week instead week 1 last year if you remember), and then somebody vetoed the MAC schedule and they redid it. Being that our schedule couldn't possibly get any worse, I don't see what we'd have to lose by vetoing this bullshit.
-
Why did we agree to this bullshit from the MAC? WE HAVE VETO POWER. If I were Rhoades the second they handed us this bs I would've handed it right back. And Chryst is a complete f*cking asshole sticking us with no ESPN or ESPN2 games. Who the hell does he think he is? We're the fucking champions. If I ever see that moron I am going to punch him in the face and I'll take my couple nights in jail for it.
-
I'd actually like to write a letter commending Rhoades on this. He's following a nice tradition set forth by his predecessor of kicking coaches who don't produce in a timely fashion to the curb. There's a new standard in Zips athletics, even for a sport as insignificant as women's basketball, and if you aren't committed to excellence, don't expect your stay here to be long. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya Miss Kennedy.

I wish the media department would release some more information about the team. Usually during the spring they give us depth charts and updated rosters and a cool "spring prospectus" feature on gozips.com with detailed info on every guy. Things must be lagging behind in the absence of UAM.
