I'm a Zips alum (law school) and root like hell for the Zips but as a Penn State undergrad that comment infuriates me and I hope we beat the crap out of the Zips. We just got crushed by UCF. OU is a lot better than the Zips. I hope Terry recruits some damn good players in the coming year and I'd love to see the Zips return to the postseason but Christ almighty... the Zips just had a transfer go TO the Nittany Lions at wide receiver.
Penn State will be down for a long time, don't get me wrong. But to think they'll never be back is a joke. USC had similar sanctions for 2 years and the first year they were bowl eligible they're ranked #1 in the AP poll. Do I think that'll happen to Penn St? Of course not. But to think they're gone forever is laughable.
So which are you cj?
You say as a Penn State undergrad "I hope WE beat the crap out of the Zips" then you say "WE just got crushed by UCF"
If you are saying WE (Penn State) hope you beat the crap out of the Zips".......don't say WE just got crushed by UCF........You my friend are not US.

HOOORRRIBLE CALL
Now we know why Creighton has such a long home winning streak. The announcers are barely even commenting on it.

That was soooo on side!

Put some of that stuff on our receivers' hands.
Why not before it becomes illegal. Funniest post yet.

I saw this on SI's Extra Mustard today and thought of this thread.
I feel dummer after watching that guy.

We have a coach that has won a National Championship, Coach of the Year and the son of the winning coach in CFB history. Wins will certainly help but he is going to get good players.....mark my words. He is an extremely charismatic, well connected, persuasive guy. And lets not forget our defensive coordinator, Chuck Amato, he is pretty credible himself. My hope these two guys alone, just by being who they are will make our team BELIEVE they are better. I don't think anyone had confidence in iCoach and they were just going through the motions.

From all I know Coach Bowden is pretty dadgum good at selecting which at-risk players would bring more positives than negatives to his team. So whatever Coach Bowden decides on Reid is OK with me.

Check out this goal by Mattocks in extra time....(Nanchoff congratulating), fast forward to around the 6:30 mark.
See if this works. This will definately be a poster.......

Looks like he has the fade to the pylon down.
The one thing that sticks out to me, is something that I have heard TB say multiple times...."quick decision making."
I was thinking the same thing. He sure does not hold on to the ball long before making a decision and getting rid of it. Wow!

First of all, I do not think they will change anything. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world so.......if it aint broke, don't break it.
Personally I do not like penalty kicks deciding a match because there is too much luck involved. The hardest thing to do in ALL of sports is for a goalie to stop a penalty kick. The only way to stop one is to GUESS properly and even if you guess properly, a well struck/placed PK is unstoppable.
I think the best alternative would be to do something similar to hockey. A "shootout" where you have a one on one breakaway against the goalie and a limited amount of time to get the shot off. There is a lot more strategy involved in it and it is exciting.

I dont know exactly how many people are going to show up but I will tell you one thing: The first game at the Info against Morgan St. was ROCKIN'. I can;t wait till the day when it happens again.
Although real early I expect a big turnout. I'm guessing 25,000. Go ZIPS!!! Beat UCF!!!
I am suprised.......My thought is a sellout for sure. Exciting new coach, Coach Tressell promoting and a good team coming in.

Let's see, he has to walk around wearing a scarlet letter (except that it's gold instead of red) and took more than a 90% pay cut. That my friend is evidence that crime does not pay.
Dude, get a grip. We have Terry Bowden as head coach, Caleb Porter (best soccer coach in U.S.), Keith Dambrot (fantastic coach with ties to Lebron) and now we have Jim Tressel (at $200K) working for us. What are you bitching about? This hire is 100% genius. We need publicity and excitement to support the new facilities and get the community excited. Tressel is class and so was Joe Paterno (RIP). I cannot believe anyone would bitch about this hire. If we dont move to a better conference all of these facilities will rot.

I know. Kinda weird.
Hopefully this is our diamond in the rough. Does seem weird that he was not highly recruited. Has stats, size, winner. I like what I see.....WELCOME Dan!

Ok Folks, I have not posted in a while but I have to say I am excited about our future. I have always said hiring and keeping quality coaches are the key. So much bitching about TW but holy shit look at the staff of coaches he has now. He has done this by paying for performance and keeping highly desirable coaches (Porter and Dambrot). Look at last years Capital One Standings. Now we have Terry Bowden for our Football coach. STFU all of you. Support the teams and pay to sit in the seats so we can pay the people.....maybe move in to a bigger conference.
Men's Cup Standings
1 - Auburn (60pts)
1 - Eastern Washington (60pts)
3 - Akron (40pts)
4 - Delaware (36pts)
4 - TCU (36pts)
6 - Oregon (35pts)
7 - Stanford (32pts)
8 - Villanova (30pts)
9 - Appalachian State (24pts)
9 - Louisville (24pts

I feel like he will bring in a weak staff and the "think small" attitude that was a hallmark of the Faust and Owens days.
Weak staff "think small attitude in the Faust days? - Faust had an all-star staff.

Akron will not hire Jim Tressel as its head coach. Not that they would not want to hire him or that we would not accept the job(which he might). The reason is that Jim Tressel is going to be hit with a "show cause" penalty by the NCAA. The same penalty that Bruce Pearl was hit with. Basically this penalty makes the coach toxic for however long the NCAA decided the length of the penalty will be. Bruce Pearl, for example, got hit with 3 years. This means that if a school would like to hire that coach, they would have to have a hearing before the NCAA explaining why they would want to hire a coach who is currently under penalty by the NCAA. The point of the "show-cause" penalty is to punish coaches who broke NCAA rules and dissuade other schools from hiring them during this time period. If a school knows all of this and STILL wants to hire that coach, they would have to have a pretty convincing argument to the NCAA why that particular coach is the ONLY coach that the institution could possible hire. That being said, the NCAA can't prevent a school for hiring anyone. However, they can hit the school with the same penalties that they levied against a coach who broke rules at a different school. If Tressel could just leave OSU and face no further punishment, don't you think his name would be coming up for some of the more high profile jobs? A coach with 1 NC and 2 other NC Game appearances, 7 straight Big Ten titles, and and average of 10 wins per season would have his pick of choice jobs. Its not like Bruce Pearl just decided that he didn't want to coach anymore. After 3 years passes and his punishment is lifted, he will be right back on the sidelines coaching someone.
If he wants the job, we will hire him........penalties or no penalties. You want to talk about toxic.....how toxic is our football program right now. We need to make this happen, it is a dream come true that can right the ship. He is a good man, well respected who paid the price for not disclosing kids trading jerseys and rings for tattoos. Sorry, but I think there are alot worse things you could be accused of (see Penn State).
Is he the only coach for us...........ABSOLUTELY.........this is a rare opportunity.
Money - I don't think I am overstating this but he could potentially help us sell out Infocision for the entire year (especially with a good start to the season). That (along with being a terrible football team) is what is and will prevent us from ever being considered to go to a better conference. With the conferences realigning, we have got to make a move NOW or it is back to 1AA (or whatever it is called). If that happens, you just wasted a shit load of money on a new state of the art stadium. If we go to a bigger conference, we will get more money by being in the conference and attendance will be boosted even more because the quality of the teams will improve.
Recruiting - I can assure you there are young men out there in the state of Ohio that have grown up dreaming to play for Jim Tressel. He is our best chance to get some decent recruits in quickly.
We need to start winning. I won't post his records but they are impressive......showing turnarounds and national championships.

Big East or whatever. If we had a line up of Dambrot, Porter and Tresell and our facilities.......the skies are the limit. I have said this years ago.......get goood coaches, pay them and keep them.
I posted this in March 2008 about Coach Dambrot.............
Keep Coach DambrotI originally was posting this as a response to another thread but thought it warranted what I view to be the most important topic we have.
I said it in previous posts and I will say it again..........The key to our success is KEEPING good coaches. It is rare when you have a great coach like KD who actually WANTS to stay and BUILD our program to national prominence and make that his legacy....... "Dambrot Arena".....I like it! What a story if he were to make it happen in his home town.
The pieces are in place (Lebron) for this to happen. In KD's tenure, we are off to a great start(Lebron), winning seasons, better recruits(Lebron) and we have advantages that no other (Lebron) school has. Did I mention that Coach Dambrot and Lebron are loyal to Akron?
Who could blame him for taking millions one day to go to......UCLA or Kentucky? Christian going to TCU is a joke and another slap in the face to the MAC. I hate Can't, but TCU? I have been to TCU
If UA lets Coach Dambrot get away for anything other than an absolute ELITE school - I will separate any association I have with UA. This is a rare (nope, once in a lifetime) chance to make a serious leap. I have more to say, but let’s see if there is any interest.

Cmon folks, - Tressell means FILLED STADIUM, alumni excitement, better recruits, stability....CUT THE CHECK - just hiring him would get us so much pubilicity (like Faust). What is he going to do.......aspire to be the head coach at OSU? This is perfect. With our BBall rocking, national defending national champs in soccer,we would be a lock for the Big East.

We look bad at the start.

so is this game nationally televised? what time EST?
