I wish him luck. The german spot light will be shining directly on Charlie this week. Does anyone think he left tickets for Romeo and Phil Savage?

What a great thread!!!Buck-I fans hating on each other...GP1 stirring it up with comments on the great defenses in c-bus...especially when you play schedules rated 59th.The great assistant coach Dantonio is mentioned as well as he turned around the Bearcats...Wait a minute, that was Kelly. And it was reported about 7 days ago that Powlus would be coming as OC. Not sure who else would want him...
-
Tickets will be easy to get...I hear rain and 45 on Sunday....
-
Didn't fit any of my criteria!!Be prepared for Ron Powlus to be named offensive coordinator...

Where is Luke Fickell when you need him?

In 2008 at the Zips basketball golf outing, the UA all-time leading scorer was in attendance wearing his NC lid.I will not be meeting up with him.... -

Thoughts?Of the coordinators on the various lists, I like his resume. I believe he got his masters at UA and was a play caller for several years...Also, not coming from a major BCS program, but a BCS program is who I want, if you go the coordinator route. What is all the talk about the tosu coordinator? He has great defenses against the MAC, New Mexico State and YSU...His defense generally gets schredded vs. the Florida's, LSU's, and USC's....Why would you not want someone from a major BCS program? That is just a silly comment saying that lower level BCS coaches are better for our needs. We want someone that has been at the highest level. They generally know what it takes to get a program to that level and keep it there. As for the OSU D coordinator.....Fickell is not "the" D coordinator. As for being shredded.....do you even watch games? They shut down the entire Big Ten (something we cant do) and they shut down USC this year. I love how you pick 2 or 3 games out of a several year strecth and say that a D coordinator is no good. Hilarious. I will agree that his schemes against SEC schools do not work, but once again, THAT ISNT FICKELL.I watched exactly 15 minutes of Buckeye football in 2009. That was when a true freshman quarterback took the Trojans 95 yards and stuck it up the Buckeyes axx.As for Fickell, I wouldn't know him from Adam... and I thought the buckeye posters on this board mentioned that he was co-D coordinator. If not, I apologize. While I do not agree with GP1 that tosu is a national joke, they do however play in one of the weakest of BCS conferences and an easy non conference schedule. # 59 per Jeff Sagarin...Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee-middle of the pack SEC schools would dominate the medium ten....But I digress...Of course I picked out a handful of tosu's most difficult games to rate the D coordinator. You sure as hell cannot get a true read on the defense (and coordinator) against MAC, New Mexico St, YSU , IU, Northwestern, Minnesota etc. As for my preference of not wanting a coordinator from one of the 15-20 major BCS programs was already posted. Ridiculous? Maybe. The football budgets at these schools are so large that everything is handed to them. My fear is that they will have a much more difficult time getting by on a budget 1/5 the size, therefore I would take my chances elsewhere.

OK buckeye honks, then please inform me of the "successful" Tressel coaching tree over the last 5 yearsDantonio went to UC and all he could talk about was getting home after UC games to watch the Buckeyes..Then watch Kelly take the program to a #5 ranking...Mark Snyder--Just fired. No Buckeye assistants at Ohio D-1 programs.....80 million dollar football budget vs. 15 million equals a reality check and a one-way ticket back to c-bus begging for your old job back..

Big err Medium Ten football is now officially one step above the ACC.Way too many coaches from that conference listed on the list for my liking...

If he is good shouldn't he play?Ah.....NO.

Bowden is very realistic for UA. He's coaching at a D2 school, has no 1-A offers as of this minute, and would be walking into a great situation in UA to build his D1 resume back up. I'm telling you, make the commitment and throw 700-900k at the guy and he'll be here, and the national press UA receives not to mention the suite and ticket sales will cover that salary in YEAR ONE.Glen Mason is available!!!

What are you people smoking? LBJ doesn't give a damn about Zips football.Let's not give him a seat anywhere!! He can buy one.

I thought there were two plays that set Humpty off..However, I did not believe either plays were dirty, or even fouls in a physical game. What is posted above is what I kinda remember, although I do not recall an elbow on this particular inbounds play. The APB player was pretty physical not letting Humpty free. Humpty raised his hands as if to say I'm not grabbing-he is, but the ref let them go...Then as the ball was getting inbounded, both players made contact again with Humpty's face making contact with the defenders chest as the defender was much bigger. Also, a few minutes earlier, APB was denying Humpty an inbounds pass. Humpty fell to the floor, catching himself with both hands on the floor only to hop up, catch the ball and dribble down the court... I thought I saw him jawing at APB on this one first...Anyway, I didn't think either play warranted Humpty to go off. Teams will soon realize that he makes UA go and they will do everything in their power to slow him down. We had no business almost giving another one away. We seem to miss more mid-range/close to the hoop jumpers than anyone.... Hopefully KD gets the rotation figured out soon...Finally, I completely disagree with the notion that the refs made this one closer than it should have been. I thought we fouled them a half dozen times on each of APB's two final possessions...yet the refs swallowed their whistles.

This is exactly what we don't need...an OSU assistant.

Hipsher Hall? Will they have a constant video replaying the Thunder Dan- Ryan Andrick sideline fight?

Yeah, everyone thinks Dambrot's a bum. It was funny...consistent with many quotes from last season...Dambrot's post-game comments to Frenchie after beating Drake began with a slight to the fans. The general theme was - "No one remembers how many games we won over the past 6 years...everyone thinks when we start 0-2 that we stink."They guy is always complaining about lack of support...never showing much gratitude for the many loyal followers he's got.I guess it is simply a motivational thing for him. He convinces himself that everyone thinks he's a bum, and that motivates him to be his best. But it isn't true.Like t or not, we all love Keith Dambrot and want him to stay at UA for as long as he wants to be here. I hope I didn't ruin his primary motivational tool by saying that. I agree. I have never understood KD's comments about the fans. Criticizes those that show up and those that do not show up.On the other hand, it fits right into the UA way. UA wants to be big time, yet how many are prepared to pay the price. A part of paying the price is accepting criticism by the fans, if you want to call it that. That said, sure fans get pissed if we lose, yet I have never heard even one fan say anything more disparaging than the list of comments KD made after the AP loss. As CK pointed out, if even one fan made those same comments, he may get banned from entering the JAR. (or the board)I don't understand it..never will. Personally, if I had his won/loss record at a DI school, I would gladly accept ten thousand fans calling me out. At least it shows they give a damn. And giving a damn about UA anything is hard to find!!!

Dare I call it as I saw it? "Crapping" all the way....What an absolute awful way to start the season! Will the Zips improve over the course of the season? Of course! Last year proved that point and it cost me. It's a long season. The non-conference games are there for a reason. To win games, build a resume for the selection committees and to find your rotation. We failed on two of the three.Last year we started out slow in the MAC- Dambrot adjusted the rotation and we steadily improved. How many games will it take this year? A part of the reason that KD has had some "sucess" making the MAC finals three staight years is also a major reason we fail in games like this? The large rotation and no go-to guy helps at times and is a detriment at times. If you have two QB's of equal ability, typically you have two "second" teamers. If we have a solid rotation of 10 guys, do we have a strong bench or do we have two "second" teams? Yes the defense was off... Especially the guy that got burnt three straight times by # 22 late in the game. But enough with the we miss Linhart already. Guys graduate every year.... I realize it was the first game and KD is looking for a rotation..Here a hint..Humpy and Nik should play major minutes... Everyone else can fight over the other 130 minutes.I realize it was the first game, but you just cannot lose that game. Unexcuseable!I hope that wasn't too much lipstick.

One particular game comes to mind!

He also holds the record for being the only opening day QB traded the following day after opening day.Anybody can complete a lot of passes in the NFL to guys out of the backfield. The key is completing passes downfield. With a weak arm, he can't complete passes downfield. The bottom line is Charlie is not a winning QB. He didn't win in the worst conference in D-1A and he didn't win with the Browns. That's why Charlie doesn't get on the field...he just isn't a winner.Maybe you are not a Browns fan. If you were, you would know the entire story behind why Charlie was let go instead of Anderson. The entire time Anderson and Frye were together in Cleveland, barring injury, Frye won the starting job. Every time. As far as your comments about "anybody can complete a lot of passes out of the backfield", you may not know that all of the figures on completions, yardage, average yards, attempts, etc., are ALL taken into consideration when figuring a QB rating. And once again, Charlie's is pretty darn good under the circumstances he was playing under, and very favorable compared to other first and 2nd year QBs.skip-zip- I have to disagree. I was the biggest Frye fan coming out of Akron. I wanted him to succeed more than anyone...Not only for himself, but to help put UA on the national map with a starting NFL. We've had these discussions over the years with GP1 leading the way. While I will never agree with GP1 and the constant "he wasn't a winner at UA, therefore he's a terrible quarterback" logic. I know he didn't have a winning record at UA, but neither did any of the qb's before him. He simply was the best QB at UA in the last 25 years. No one is even a close second in my book...(Although I personally rate Mike Johnson second) Now as far as the NFL is concerned, GP1 is correct. He's awful.. But he's awful because his arm strength in the NFL is "weak", he struggles reading defenses and he always wants to take off and make a play on the run. THis doesn't cut it in the NFL and are the reasons that he is barely hanging on in Oakland, not because he wasn't a winner at UA.He was terrible in CLeveland, awful in Seattle and will lucky to be on a roster by year end. He had (has) three chances in the NFl to take the bull by the horn and become a starting qb ...couldn't hold off DA in Cleveland, an injury prone M. Hasslebeck in Seattle or the awful J. Russell in Oakland....I wish it was different...

Captain Kangaroo should like this one. Even when we win the greatest game in program history, we create reasons for why we really should not have.We back-doored into the 2008-9 MAC basketball championship too. Humpty got lucky...we should have lost to the 12-seed. Right?I guess so.....I don't agree, but it seems to be the prevailing wisdom on the board, which is why GP1 goes the other way when it comes to prevailing wisdom on sports boards. Maybe we need to the start of any critical comment now on the basketball board with, "I love KD and even though he backed into that championship last year (insert criticism)".We didn't back into either championship...We were fortunate for sure...but we won fair and square. JD won 5 MAC games and then all the tie-breakers. No other MAC East team won more so how is it "backing in"? It happens in the NFL every year.
