The Michigan Chaper of the Akron Zips Fan Club will be watching the game at BW3 in Fenton, Mi. For my sake, I hope to GOD that they have ESPNU for the other games! (Baby Zip is putting a damper on football this year)

Last time we were in Happy Valley, I was sure we were going to give PSU a game. We got killed. JD didn't have time to work his magic. Last season, I prepared for a stomping in West Lafayette. The Zips took the field, looked sharp, played a MUCH better game than I expected, and we were within one at the end of the 3rd. Crowd was agitated, and there was a gleam of hope that we might pull off an upset. As in other BCS games though, our depth caught up with us. I predict a similar result here, but we'll have the PSU Fans agitated until the clock reads 0:00. JD will have the boys ready. I'm envious of the people making the trip!Cap'n, thanks for the rundown, brought back memories! P.S. The Michigan Chapter of the Akron Zips Fan Club will be watching the game at the BW3 in Fenton, Mi. There will be a handful of us there, feel free to stop in.

Does the company have one advertisement or two on the Aeros Scoreboard? I think it will be a GOOD company!

With a new Zips fan arriving in about 5 weeks, my friends and family have been very good in making sure the new addition would be well prepared for their first Zips tailgate later this year. One paticulary creative friend made up an oufit with a spin an the popular "Fear the Roo" theme. It read:"Fear The POO!"

I'm sure I'm like most people, I know tons of OSU fans, but I can count on one hand how many of them actually went to OSU. Bottom line, it's easy to root for a good team. Nobody want's to go to work, school, etc. and get crap about how bad their team is. Just like most Americans, might as well take the easy way out. (You know how many Texas fans there are in Michigan now!?!?!.. ) I came up with an idea when I was at an Indians game a few weeks ago. Lots and Lots of OSU shirts, hats, etc. I wanted to make a statement and was thinking about having some shirts made. Very simple and to the point:F-OSUGO ZIPS!!!

The Good and the bad:Bad: I lose the seats I've sat in for the past 11 seasons... Good: The "new" seats will be better to watch the game. Bad: I'll be farther away from the field.Good: I'll be closer to the opposing team (easier to heckle!) Bad: The student section is on the visitors side. Now the home side (with all the old geezers that complain when I stand up and cheer) will be as loud as Bierce on a Friday Night. Good: The student section is on the visitors side. They should get the opposing team pretty pissed! Bad: The chances of starting the wave just plummeted!Good: I should be on TV more!Bad: Sun in my eyes.Good: Sun keeping me warm.Either way, I'll give it a shot. It's Zips football!

As I sat down to watch the Hall of Fame game last night, I let out a sigh of relief....football has arrived. Sure, summer is on it's way out, but my favorite time of year is here.I can't wait for:1) PSU vs. Akron. Every season starts with such high hopes. Again, I'm really, really pumped and look for us to give PSU a handful!2) Tailgating at the RB!3) Kicking the crap out of NC State, Can't, Miami!4) Turkey Day #2! ( I hope is snows again!)5) Another "Home" game for me in Detroit!I hope that OSU implodes. I am sick and tired of everyone here (In MICHIGAN) telling me that they are #1 Go Zips!
-
I'll just take a close game. The last two times we played there we were demolished! Very embarrassing for a Zips fan. I'm looking for some consistency this year. NO, not the sucking kind of consistency either. We should play the BCS Schools tough, hopefully come out with a win or two, and dominate our division.
-
Granted there isn't much pregame atmosphere at the MCB, but there won't be much at the GMAC bowl either since the Akron fans will be few and far between. IMO, I would rather take a lot of Akron fans than nice weather.
-
Detroit would be preferable, and not just because it's close to my house. More Akron fans will come to Detroit because of location (short drive). Obviously, now, I just want to go to another bowl!
-
If Akron makes it to the GMAC Bowl, I WILL BE THERE! Sure, I don't have a lot of vacation time, but it is a new year and I might as well smoke 'em while I got 'em!

It must be in better shape than we all thought. 11 years ago, the worst team(s) in the country played in that place 6 times. Akron was the worst team the entire season until the last game against OU, who was the 2nd worst team. This was actually Akron's first DI-A bowl game, but nobody acknowledges it. Known as "The Toilet Bowl" , Akron defeated OU 24-10, and as a Freshman I was already fine tuning my heckling skills from the endzone . Sure, that was quite some time ago, but what about last season??? It should have imploded on Thanksgiving Day. Nobody would have known about it since it wasn't televised and nobody would have gotten hurt because well, there was nobody there. The only thing I can think of is that it was frozen solid last year and the high winds blowing over the stadium actually created an area of low pressure that kept stadium intact. Actually, I love the RB. Sure it is a piece of crap, but when that place is packed, it has the atmosphere of a Bigtime program. I hope in the new stadium the seats are close enought to the field so that I can continue heckling the opposing players.

I didn't know that we had such powerful people posting on this board, but I understand with us playing 2 games in Detroit this past year. It is obvious to me that GP1 is really Bill Ford Jr. Let me extend you an invitation to the Michigan Chapter of the Akron Zips Fan Club!

Rifle Coach Newt Engle had a hand in helping the State of Ohio Junior Air Rifle team bring home another National Championship. It also appears he's worked to bring next season's Junior National Championship Match to Akron. Some pretty good young shooters on this team, hopefully Newt's involvement will continue building the UA program!PRESS RELEASEDate: July 10, 2005 ORPA Juniors Win Second National Air Rifle Championship Yet Another National Record for Women’s Air Rifle Team! This years 6th annual NRA/Pyramid air national junior air gun team championship and training summit was held July 5-9, at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Redmond Oregon. Being a contender since the first championship 6 years ago, the Ohio teams have been performing at Olympic levels which last year earned precision rifle the national championship with sporter rifle and pistol finishing in the top 10. This year the trip to Oregon was filled with dreams of defending the championship and improving standings. The performances of this years teams have more than proved that dreams can come true. The precision air rifle team has earned the national championship for the second year in a row and the sporter rifle team moved from #8 to #5 while the pistol team improved from #7 to #6. That is right folks, in the entire USA! This match is not just a scrimmage among friends, this is the national championships! These teams come from all over the nation and contain team members who lead local clubs to state championships, colleges to collegiate championships, and yes, the USA to Olympic gold medals. These are not kids. They are our national champions. Every single one of them. Are you starting to figure out how talented these young athletes are and how proud the coaches are of every one of them? Ohio should be proud to be represented by athletes of this caliber. Head coach and Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association air gun director, Tom Paumier (rifle world record holder himself) states, “Beyond a doubt, this is one of the most talented teams to represent Ohio I have had the pleasure to coach. They knew what needed done and brought the gold back to Ohio. What more can I ask?” Air Pistol DivisionTeam Captain Ryan Devine (Columbus, OH) is now a seasoned veteran of leading the Ohio air pistol team at national championships. His leadership was apparent as he assembled his team and proceeded to finish as the #6 junior air pistol team in the nation. But how close is close? On a pistol target the scoring rings are a mere ¼ inch apart. Each competitor shoots 80 shots with each shot on a target with ten rings. Thus each shot can earn up to 10 points for hitting the center with one point off for each ring away from the center. There is 80 shots for each of the three competitors giving the team a chance to earn up to 2,400 points. So winning or loosing by 5 to 10 points would be extremely close. With this in mind, examine the below listed team totals from this championship.2085 North Dakota2075 Massachusetts2060 Montana2054 Oregon2023 Pennsylvania2022 Ohio2016 South CarolinaAir Pistol had 12 teams and 42 individuals. So how close is close? Many of the teams are less than 10 points apart with Ohio only one slim point behind Pennsylvania. This is a testament to the high levels of competition found at national championships. Below is the individual standings and accomplishments of the Ohio air pistol team.Score:707 Ryan Devine of Columbus, Ohio, Big Walnut Shooting Sports Assn. finished as #2 in the Junior class (Bronze medal), and #5 overall, named as a member of the NRA national air gun team.686 Rene’ Goeppinger of Fredericktown Ohio, finished #14 overall629 R.Jay Frinke of Oak Harbor Ohio, Oak Harbor Conservation Club finished #27 overall2022 Team Total finishing as the #6 air pistol team in the nation. Pistol team alternate member:570 Staci Collins of Waterford, Ohio, The Ohio State University, finished # 35 overall Sporter Air Rifle DivisionSporter air rifle is a category designed for entry level air rifle competitors. The rifles are very light, and less expensive than precision. The sporter competitors wear sweatshirts, jeans and a shooting glove rather than the leather and canvas worn by the precision competitors. But these differences are insignificant when it comes to the skill and determination required to be competitive in this division. Three year veteran sporter team captain Dominic Mendiola (Hartville OH) lead his team to show dramatic improvement by raising the team standings from #8 last year to #5 at this years championships as shown below: 4257 Montana4195 New Mexico4119 Pennsylvania 4116 Preston High School JROTC4059 OhioSporter air rifle had 15 teams and 61 individuals.Below is the individual standings and accomplishments of the Ohio sporter air rifle team. (Individual score out of a possible 1200)1068 Dominic Mendiola of Hartville, Ohio, Great Trail Musketeers JRC, finished #5 on day one and #7 on day two, finished #5 overall, finished #2 in Junior class (Silver medal), invited to be on the international postal team –vs- South Africa, named as a member of the NRA national air gun team.1029 Erica Troyer of Hartville, Ohio, Canton McKinley JRC, finished #9 on day one, finished #17 overall, invited to be on the international postal team –vs- South Africa.983 Sarah Fitz of Columbus, Ohio, Central Crossing JROTC, finished #30 overall.979 Henna Kahn of Grove City, Ohio, Grove City HS JROTC, finished #31 overall.4059 Team Total finishing as the #5 sporter air rifle team in the nation.Sporter team alternate member:970 Amanda Quinn of Columbus, Ohio, Central Crossing JROTC, finished #34 overall. Precision Air Rifle DivisionOhio consistently presents one of the top precision air rifle teams in the nation as demonstrated by finishing #2 in 2004, #1 in 2005 while setting two national records, and now #1 again in 2006 and setting yet another national record. Since members of this team come from all over Ohio, the success of this team is a credit to the junior rifle clubs in Ohio who are supported by the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association and the friends of the NRA along with many generous local supporters. This backing has put Ohio in the national spotlight as one of the premier states fielding championship junior teams. This years team lead by team captain Ashley Jackson (Cuyahoga Falls) was keenly aware of the fact that all eyes were on them as they began day one matches. When the smoke cleared, Ohio was alone at the top, but only by a slim 6 points! Day two began with the team warming up with the song “we are the champions” followed by a cheer of OH----IO! and the match began. Cheers rocked the championship headquarters as the final results went up showing Ohio had again earned gold. But remember how close is close? Check out these team rankings: 4669 Ohio4665 Washington4664 Virginia4651 Pennsylvania4639 CaliforniaPrecision air rifle had 25 teams and 112 individuals. Winning the national championship was just the beginning for the Ohio team. Several of the team members earned special recognition for stellar individual performances. Below is a list of what Ohio can be proud of: (Individual score out of a possible 1200)1173 Gina Cheliras of Girard, Ohio, Ashland Eagles JRC, finished #10 on day one, finished #6 on day two, finished #5 overall, finished as #1 intermediate junior (gold medal), invited to be on the international postal team –vs- South Africa, named as a member of the NRA national air gun team.1172 Abbey Stanec of Wadsworth, Ohio, Ashland Eagles JRC, finished #11 on day one, finished #8 on day two, finished #10 overall, invited to be on the international postal team –vs- South Africa, named as a member of the NRA national air gun team.1169 Ashley Jackson of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Ashland Eagles JRC, finished #14 overall, currently a member of the NRA national air gun team, named as team captain for the international postal team –vs- South Africa. 1155 Kelly Lake of Columbus, Ohio, The Ohio State University, finished #31 overall.4669 Team total and new Women’s 3 Position Air Rifle National Record for the second straight year. Precision team alternate member1139 Chelsey Frink of Roswell, Ohio, Great Trails Musketeers JRC, finished #56 overall. All members of this years ORPA teams offer sincere thanks to The Ohio Rifle & Pistol Association for their generous financial assistance. As well as assistance from The National Rifle Association Foundation which is supported by local Friends of the NRA events. A contributing factor to the success of the Ohio teams was in part due to a collaborative effort between Ohio and a championship host site local club. This year Ohio paired up with the Four Corners Rod and Gun Club of Salem Oregon to run a 5 day pre-championship clinic. This clinic was conducted by Coach Tom Paumier, Coach Chuck Miller and Coach Newt Engle. It was the generous assistance of Four Corners President Dave Hill, Secretary Tim Brown and junior coach Mike Wright, which made this clinic a possibility. The hospitality of our new western friends had a definite positive affect on the Ohio teams. Lastly and MOST importantly, a big thanks to the local junior rifle and pistol programs across Ohio with the coaches and parents who make Ohio the envy of the nation. Next years championship will be special indeed. The Ohio teams will not only be going for the gold for the third time, but they will be doing so in their own back yard. The 2007 NRA Air Gun National Championships will be held at The University of Akron. The championships next year will begin on July 4th with training on July 5th and day two matches on July 6th. Mark your calendars and plan on stopping by to see some of the nations finest young athletes performing at Olympic levels right here in Ohio. Plans are already being developed to provide Ohio teams the best chance possible of remaining as the top teams in the nation. If you are interested in providing assistance (financial or otherwise) please contact the air gun director listed below.

Guess what folks, we won the MAC East by a tiebreaker on a 3 way tie. We won the MAC Championship on a Hail Mary. We lot to Army, Central, BSU and got demolished by Miami last season. We are in no way, shape, or form ready to go anywhere near the Big East. We'll need to Dominate the Confrence for several years before we get any consideration. One season at a time...2006 Goals: Win the MAC East Outright! Win the MAC Championship! Win our bowl game!

Anyone know the story behind this guy?
Zipsrifle replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
ZipBoy summed it up for me. If you get a scholarship to Akron, you are getting a damn good deal if you decide to use it! I paid to go to school while I was shooting. While I was studying my @$$ off I would occasionally get hit by one of the paper airplanes that some of the scholarship athletes would be tossing about.....and it wasn't exactly a quiet study environment either. It's not like the University can pull the scholarship from you if you get injured playing and can't compete anymore. You're getting a free college education, use it. -
Both GP1 and ZW make valid statements. I remember 2 instances where Luke had Kasparek open over the middle, in the endzone. The first time, he didn't even try to get it to him, the second time, he overthrew him by a mile. That was early in the season, by late in the season, he had his feet under him and was tearing up the competition. Luke took a lot of heat, me included, stepped up when it mattered and got us to a Bowl game. The guy is getting a lot of positive press right now, I'm sure he's not losing sleep with what's posted (or not posted) on Zipsnation.

Either you've been around a long time, you like to waste time on meaningless hobbies, or your a Can't fan (also a meaningless hobby) that has converted.

Interesting this post started today..... I just happened to order my 2 tickets over the phone today. I opt for general admission because I drag anyone to the game I can and they want to sit near me, not 5 sections away. They typically don't want to pay a lot so the general admission works great for me. Besides, I have sat in the endzone for 11 years now, no reason to start pissing off the old people in the reserved section by moving there and actually making noise during the game and standing up! Our smart@$$ comments are better received by the endzone crowd anyway. One thing that blew my doors off today was when I asked the girl at the ticket office how sales were going. She said they so far had only about 50 orders. Granted each order was for multiple seats, but 50!! If each person got 4 seats, that only 200 tickets!!! COME ON PEOPLE! We won the MAC last season! Hell, I won't even be at most of the home games this year and I still bought them! Because I was one of the first 1500 people to purchase my season tickets, I will be getting 2 cool blankets with my purchase! Hope the numbers take off soon, remember, it will cost less to get season tickets to Akron than to attend ONE GAME at Beaver Stadium!

What's the deal with the new gozips.com coming in August? Will there be additional content to the sports services available or is it just a money thing?
-
While sufing around I dug up this site. It appears to count down till the Penn State game, though it is about 2-1/2 hours different than gozips.com. Could this be part of the next "Fear The Roo" marketing push by UA? Feartheroo.net seems like it would cost some money for the domain name?http://www.feartheroo.net/

While Digging around, I found this old article (late 2003) on the Stadium project. I don't know if any of this information is relevant anymore, but some of the companies mentioned are new to me.http://www.momentummedia.com/articles/am/a...onstruction.htm

Something to think about...this is a good move by OSU to quench it's fans thurst in Cleveland with an "Away" game. The people in Cleveland will eat this up. I wouldn't be suprised if OSU started playing this card more often. Pulling this off once a year (or every other year if they switch between Cleveland and Cincinnati), will only hurt the MAC schools in that the fans who typically attend one college football game a year won't need to drive the short distance to a MAC School (Can't, Akron, Miami). I admit I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but I don't think this is a move to squash the MAC, it is for money, exposure. OSU would make a nice chunk of extra money, along with some people in Cleveland, through merchandise sales and Akron gets one of the big boys invading it's turf. BG and Toledo were chosen because the typical Ohio College Football "Fan" sees them as the "Good" MAC Teams (Toledo still fits the mold). I say, look for something similar in Cinci with Miami and if Akron has a successful year again, they'll be on the list next. Bottom line for Akron, if we are going to make inroads to the Cleveland Market, we've got to continue our winning ways. A win in Cow-lumbus next year would go a LONG way....a new stadium would too!Go Zips!

Though I agree that JD and KD get new contracts, I doubt they will be for huge sums of money. Honestly folks, if a decent BCS School comes calling, JD is gone no matter what the money is. He's got goals in life and I'm sure coaching a National Championship team or being an NFL coach is on that list. Remember, this is the guy who gave up a 6 figure salary and was begging to coach for free just so he could be close to football. He's not gonna stick around at Akron for the money. I think the news that the U is doing everything in it's power to keep LP is the biggest news since last season's bowl game! I've said it before, LP is the type of guy that will put the entire city of Akron on his back and drag it to bigger and better things. I still think we should name the new stadium after the guy.

Zipsrifle replied to IBleedMACGreen's topic in Akron Zips Football
No matter what, Toledo is gonna play tough. I think Toledo scares any team in the country. It seems to me that OU has been predicted to have a "Breakout Year!" for about the past 10 years. I'm still waiting.......... As for CMU, sorry to say it guys, they've got our number. Charlie had to come from behind two years ago in a great win, but we can't seem to pull out the other games. They've got a great coach and I expect a battle in Mount Pleasant. I hope we don't get blown out in Happy Valley (Seems to be a theme recently) and we play a good game against NC State (an upset would be nice).
