  1. I've always heard the Faust is an excellent speaker. He may be a great fundraiser.
  2. You guys are Hilarious!

I want to apologize to everyone on the Rifle team for not posting and giving comments as I usually do. I've been very busy as of late and haven't had much time to visit. Great job capturing the WIRC and a strong showing in the MAC. The BusDriver and ZR32 have stepped up in my deliquency. Keep up the good work!
  4. Excellent point Z.I.P. Probably the best way to advertise your school (you actually MAKE money for advertising your product) and it appears there isn't a well defined direction. There are some advantages to having individual departments selling their merchandise though. I would set it up this way.I believe Buchtel Hall should set up guidelines that everyone must follow if you are going to sell Akron Merchandise. I would break things up into two areas:Athletic Dept. Sales - Since the AD has the it's own contracts (Addidas) and probably the largest sales of any dept., they should control their own destiny. I don't think that individual teams should be able to sell their own stuff. The athletic dept. should be in charge and should manage and distribute all the money. But this also means they should offer merchandise for every team (even the Rifle Team).Non-athletic sales - I think that one office should be incharge of non-athletic sales. This would include all department sales and registered student groups. If you wanted something made up, you should be able to go through this department so that everything is consistent and you would probably be able to get the best deal. Again, this office would distribute the funds according to sales. It shouldn't be too restrictive, we want small groups to be able to easily get merchandise made. I also LOVE the "Just Roo It!" concept, but I doubt Addidas does.
  5. I have already completed a nearly perfect (trust me, it's THAT close), magnetic reproduction of the "Fear the Roo!" logo for the tailgate of my truck. I spans the ENTIRE tailgate height and the about 1/2 the width. It is, of course, centered on the tailgate and was given a 4 hour durability test in earlier this year as we drive through a driving rain/snow storm from Michigan to Ohio prior to the Home Eastern Michigan game. I can't do too many more tailgating improvements....I'd have to buy a bigger truck and "The Ziptruck" has only been around 1-1/2 football seasons! I'll need to work on getting the pictures posted.
  6. I don't care what JH or HS kids think. If they don't go to Akron because the Logo looks dumb, great! If that is your criteria for picking a college then UA don't want ya. Lets start building some tradition.
  7. We start winning, the community takes notice, and the ABJ suddenly becomes our best friend. Money talks Bull$#!+ walks!
  8. I haven't been able to surf the nation or follow the Zips much of late, but was able to catch the game today and do a little surfing this evening. I was a little suprised to see the sudden change of favor of opposing MAC fans. When we were moving up the national rankings in soccer, many MAC fans were supportive. Even when fought our way into the MAC Championship game in Football, there were fans that were happy to see the change. Now the board we could once converse in peace at is loaded with opposing fans, we're being bashed elsewhere and there is a growing hatred of the Zips throughout the rest of the confrence......So this is what it feels like to be on top!
  9. All I remember are Bonfires, tear-gas, and lots of Cops in riot gear. I was actually caught up in a little teargas in the Fall one year. Supposedly there was an investigation afterwards within the Akron PD about excessive use of tear-gas. Apparently tear-gas expires and they decided to get rid of the extra. I think when the new stadium is built, Kathryn place should be the Tailgating Lot! I guess I didn't move any more than most college students. 10. GREAT THREAD! This is good stuff. Being so far away, I'm left out of the BB hoopla. Glad to see some students stepping up to get things in gear! OK, here's an idea, building upon what some others have posted. The AK-OLDIES will remember what happened when we left the theater after "Days of Thunder". For the AK-ROWDIES.....think "The Fast and the Furious". Everyone was squealing their tires driving like a madman! The point? A good movie will get people FIRED UP!! The leaders of the AK-ROWDIES should approach whoever is in charge of the cinematography Dept. (if one exists) at UA and see if the students in that area could put together a move. The movie would be a compilation of the GREATEST Akron Sports Moments with KICK @$$ background music. I think the old Theater in the basement of Kolby is still there. Hopefully it has a movie screen and a stage. About 1hr. before the game, the ROWDIES meet in that theater. They hand out any special shirts, etc. and practice their chants. Then, about 25 min. before the game starts... The lights go down and the Movie Starts. Music BLASTING, ROWDIES getting ROWDIE! When everyone is good and fired up, they are escorted through Memorial hall and over the bridge to the JAR, chanting the entire way (man that bridge will be loud). Into the jar, they make a lap of the track, CHEERING LOUD AS HELL, getting the entire crowd into it. They are escorted to their seats just before the opposing team is announced. By now, the ROWDIES will be fired up, the fans will be fired up, and the opposing team will be taking a Of course, a little bit of Athletic Dept. buy-in will be needed for the escort, etc. They could also help maybe pay for the movie? The same movie could be put on a bigscreen overlooking the lower lot at the Rubber Bowl about 1/2 hour before the game! The Cinema students could get credit, and they could redo the movie every year or so to keep it fresh! If there isn't a cinematograpy dept., I'm sure UA has SOMETHING that deals with students shooting movie or TV spots.
  11. Rowdies, Like I said in another post, you guys could have owned the EMU Convo last night if only 15 of you had showed up. The entire "Gang Green" section had 4 people who actually stood up. Two girls who stood up and talked. Two guys who stood up, one of which was jumping up and down yelling the entire time, the other couldn't see a damn thing because he had a basketball over his face. The best part, they had a big banner above the student section. On the left side was a picture the guy with the basketball mask yelling. Right in front of his face was another picture blended into his. I don't know what it was, but it sure looked like a big c*ck right next to his mouth to me.
  12. There are a few key differences I see. Akron is an ESTABLISHED SPORTS PRGRAM, this Pro Soccer team is not. Akron WILL BUILD a new ON CAMPUS stadium in the near future. So, as I see it, if they want to build a soccer stadium closer to Cleveland, great. If and when it will happen is anybody's guess. I'm not willing to wait around for a bunch of if's. More likely than not, the stadium in Akron will be built well before any pro soccer stadium. IMO, I would like to see the Zips Soccer team use the new stadium too (Though I have no idea how big a soccer field is). If that happened, I wouldn't be suprised if a pro team would also become a tennant. I see a possability to have 3 teams using a facility than one team for 5 days a year.
  13. I have to say that at the EMU game, there were not so many bad calls as lack of calls for one team. I'm no BB expert, but just like holding in FB, you can probably call a foul on every posession. I would like to see consistency throughout the game and for both sides.
  14. Yea, those ref's really sucked. Dials was going down the floor, gets drilled by an EMU player.. .the ball keeps bouncing in the same path, while Nick goes flying another direction.....of course no foul. Nick hustles down the floor. An EMU guy gets the ball in front of Nick, backs into him, BEEP! foul on Dials!?! EMU (Football) players were tucking the ball, putting their shoulder down and drivng to the basket (Akron foul of course). They were falling down very easily and rolling on the ground under the Akron basket a few times when we got the ball down low. At times the refs were calling every tiny infaction every time it happened both ways, and other times it was street ball one way. Here are some of my observations, even though I really don't follow BB. We couldn't get the ball down low. When we did, we didn't have a lot of success putting it in the basket. I don't know if that is because we don't have a dominating big guy, it wasn't our game plan, or we just didn't have the opportunities. We didn't have great rebounding, EMU seemed to come down with the ball quite a bit. Lots of passing, which I like, but there were quite a few bad ones that hurt us. I also thought that we played a lot of "Hands on" defense, which IMO, was why we got so many fouls. We were always swatting at the ball and using body contact outside which made it easy to call fouls. We did great at the foul line and behind the Arc which kept us in this game. Dials is a clutch FT shooter. I was amazed that Preston was nailing the 3's. Nate came to life for a few minutes....I like that kid, he's got some potential. Romeo had some HUGE blocked shots. One went in the stands early, and another looked like an easy layup for the EMU guy. Romeo had let up a bit and it looked like he was gonna give the guy the basket. The guy went to lay it in and Romeo came out of nowhere and swatted that thing off the backboard H A R D . EVERYONE in the place went "OAAAHHH!" Cedric has some great moves. Dru looked off from the pregame. Everyone contributed and I love how animated Dambrot was. To wrap it up, I was really nervous for a while. The EMU fans were few, and the ones that were there RODE the refs. They were complaining about how we always got the calls, even though we had twice as many fouls as they had Akron somehow managed to stay just a little ahead every time I looked at the scoreboard. I guess this is a team that knows how to win. We didn't look like the winning team in the 2nd half, but were alway ahead on the scoreboard.
  15. Well, at least it`s an exciting game Our passing sucks and Eastern D has been tight all game. I can`t say that the ref`s are calling bad fouls against us, but they sure aren`t calling anything against eastern. At the end of the half, Nate was basically pushed to the ground and stepped on, but no personal foul?....just a stern talking to by the ref`s. As for attendance, this place is about 1/5 full. The best part is that the `GANG GREEN` is about 4 students total! If about 15 AK-ROWDIES showed up, they would have owned this place.
  16. Man I love this wireless stuff. They`ve got a nice arena here, I bet it will get really loud. Oh wait, it`s ' cram the convo' night and it was an iceskating rink to get here....it`ll be 1/2 empty. I`ll give an update at the half.
  17. I suppose a new shirt would be okay, but it should still be short so Zippy's belly sticks out. The shirt HE's wearing now is way too long! Cut it off!
  18. Given Akron's history, the fans will turn out for the big games, but keep doing what everyone did when the Zips sucked. It will take a while to turn things around. The more big games we play in and win, the more people will slowly get hooked. There are very few people hooked on Zips athletics right now. Once people get hooked, then there will be more local talk around the water cooler and the attendance will start to go up. Until then, I'm afraid we'll have to put up with the spew from spoiled brat fans who go to school 50 miles from nowhere. I can say with confidence that the excitment is growing about Zips athletics. We're getting more coverage in the media. Hell, even here in Michigan the local sports radio show knew that Akron was the "Zips" and that we were a decent BB team. I think the best example I can point to is the traffic on this board. Last season, there was just a handfull of chatter on the board this time of year. Now, hell, I don't have time to read everything! I just briefly scan the posts to get the message. I firmly believe that this is by far the best place to go for Zips info, and IMHO, it's a big factor in getting people hooked.
  19. I was just wondering if anyone was going to the EMU game this Saturday? Any AK-Rowdies? I'll be there, it's a short 45 min drive for me! Oh, yea, this board is ROCKIN!!!! The Moderators should be proud!
  20. Sounds good. If I get off of work at 3:00, and I get through Ann Arbor and Toledo Traffic, I should be there in time for it to start!
  21. I'm willing to bet that for the Can't vs. Akron game at the JAR, the Can't students will come up with this novel idea...... Probably something along the lines of wearing Akron shirts but turn them inside out about 3 minutes into the game! AK-ROWDIES in ONE YEAR have become the premier student spirit group in the MAC!
  22. I am in a state of shock!!!! I need to go check the Beacon Journal, this really is news, right up there with confirmation that Big Foot exists! LOOK EVERYONE, a Can't FAN! Where the hell did it come from!?! I don't think there has been a Can't fan sighting for at LEAST a year here on Zips Nation. Unfortunately, it appears to be a little messed up. Maybe it's been in hibernation for the past few months. I think we all need to go easy on it.....stop jabbing it with all those recent MAC Championship facts :macc: or it will become like the other Can't fans. You know, the ones who never leave their board (is there a Can't board anymore?). The ones who will act like the runt of the schoolyard and start screaming Uncle as soon as the cross-town bully shows up? I would like to keep it around for a while, but I fear (the roo) that it will be gone after today It'll probably scurry into the same hole (Dix?) the other Can't fan now occupies after we hand it to them tonight. Oh, yea.....
  23. After what I saw at the football games this year, I'm not suprised that the student section would be rather sedated. By the 3rd quater of FB, it went from watching the team to trying to find someone to hookup with that night.
  24. The big difference is that I can wear my "Fear the roo" shirt anywhere. I doubt you'll see "Screw the roo" shirts anywhere but on the Can't Campus during game days. Besides, their shirts will sell well for 2 games of the year......"Fear the Roo" will sell well all year round.
  25. I would like to know if there is going to be something for the fans as far as fundraising for the new stadium? I like the PSL question too. What about continued upgrades to the Soccer facility. Sounds to me like they sold out quite a few times last year.....keep upgrading.
