  1. That was a great article. I was blown away with how many people were in town for the game. There was a MUCH bigger crowd than I expected. The MCB really brought Detroit to life on Monday, and I'm glad to see someone in Detroit recognized this.
  2. THAT ROCKS!! Where is that billboard??? I need to get a picture of that!
  3. There has been some talk about it happening at Hockeytown, but in conversing with the people who went to the MACC with me, they didn't really like Hockeytown. Right now I'm thinking about hitting Pizza Papalis because it is supposed to be the best pizza in Detroit. There were a ton of people at Hockeytown last time, so I'm sure you'll run into a few people there. Hell, Maybe I'll show up. There is a parking lot right behind Hockeytown, I would suggest parking there.
  4. Well, I've come to my conclusion. I think the Zips will win in a close one (shocker huh?). Why, well, for some reason we seem to play better when we're underdogs. I've been nosing around and IMO, nobody really knows anything about us. They know a lot about Williams and saw how Wolfe ran all over us, so DW will really kill us. Usually, there is one little blurb about how Akron has the Best D in the MAC, but then it's "Wolfe bla bla bla bla Williams bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla...... In addition, despite the fact that they seem to acknowledge that Memphis doesn't have the best pass D, apparently we will somehow be stopped through the air. We'll also have about 4 times more fans there than Memphis. I think we could be a big help to the team if we're constantly making noise. I think we'll show up with a balanced attack and be able to move the ball. Though Williams is a hell of an athlete, if we get them on 3rd or 4th and long, we'll pin our ears back and get to the QB quite a few times. Finally, this team has shown a lot of heart lately, and I pray to GOD that the Akron that showed up for NIU shows up for Memphis. I don't think anyone will doubt that DW will put up some serious yards, but I think Luke will put up some serious yards too. We've been disrespected all year so there's no reason for this to change. In the end, it'll be a shootout.
  5. Consider it done.
  6. Good news, per Gozips.com, UA has sold their entire allotment of 9,400 tickets! Looks like 10,000 Akron fans is nearly guaranteed. I think 12,000 would be very respectable and gets our name down on many bowl comittee's lists. Zips SELL OUT!
  7. For a minute there.....I thought I was being called a low aiming a-hole. Nice recovery GP1.
  8. Money talks, bull$#!t walks. They are printing what will make them money.
  9. Yea, it would have been nice to see Mike get a shot. Through the contact I've had with him, he really goes way beyond what is necessary. Hopefully he stays around, Rhoades will need someone with experience to keep the momentum going. And if Rhoades is what we all hope he is, what a one-two punch we'd have at the top!
  10. I happen to have some luck in converting fans from other MAC schools to Zips fans.... Kflusher....do not resist.....come to the dark siddddeeee!
  11. I hope that total goes up. 8000 isn't that many in a 60,000 seat arena.
  12. How long would we keep him around if he sucked??? It's easy to talk about how someone should be loyal to your school when they are good, but if he wasn't getting the job done you know the fans would be crying about making some changes. A lot of other coaches/players careers depend on someone doing a good job. Why would they want to keep someone around who sucks?? I wish him luck.
  13. When was the last time an Akron football (Not futbol) coach left and went to a bigger school? At the beginning of the year we were debating if/when JD would go. In the middle of the year, we were wondering if/when we should fire him. At the end of the year, we're debating if/when JD will go. Just be thankful he's got us to where we are and let this thing go. It's almost as bad as the attendance talk!
  14. Too early for Lolla to be replaced. I think we've got the ability to get a top notch coach, especially if the athletic department says they are going to continue throwing money at the program. I don't think they'll announce any new contracts until the seasons are over. If we lay an egg at the MCB, JD gets just his bonuses from the previous contact. The basketball season has barely started, we don't know how it's going to turn out. That's why I voted for the stadium. This "rumor" has been flying around for nearly a year now, and still nothing. It sounds like Rhoades is a money guy and the only reason for that is to get the cash to build a new stadium. I've got mixed thoughts about this approach though. We need the new stadium, but we also need to get a top notch soccer coach, and keep JD! I think both aspects are of equal importance. If Rhoades can get the same coaching talent that Thomas brought in AND raise stadium money, then that guy is a goldmine. I think UAM would have been a safe bet, IMO, he would have continued the tradition of getting great coaching. I hope Rhoades is the real deal. If not, then this will prove a crucial mistake.
  15. Can you still make a poll up in this topic? I don't know right now, Memphis has two big advantages. Wolf ran all over us, so I expect a simialr performance out of Williams. I think what I'm worried about more is our starting position. I realized the advantage of starting position this year. Sounds like they pin their opponents deep quite a bit. I think our biggest advantage will be our ability to blow up thier D with passing. Getsy needs to be on if we're going to win. Biggs will get enough carries to keep their D off balance. I think that Memphis will be more one dimensional than NIU, so I think our D will be able to key on Williams, but he'll still put up big yards. If they had a passing attack, we'd really be screwed. I'm undecided right now. I've been excited like this twice this year and we ended up laying an egg both times. We looked pretty good in the NIU game though, and if that team shows up, we stand a good chance. We have the ability to beat Memphis. Will we have our heads in the right place though??????
  16. Apparently he is the UTEP Associate Athletics Director.
  17. I'll guarantee you that you'll get some attention if your sign says "Go Zips, Fire Millen".
  18. For whatever reason Lolla decided to move on, it was the best move for him and his family. In the end, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, it was his decision and he made it. I myself am in a similar situation right now. I have a killer job, but am moving on to a new one. Everyone looks at me if I'm crazy, but it is the best decision for my family and I and it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. He has his own life, he can do what he wants with it, your input means nothing! I feel very blessed that Coach Lolla had the opporuntity to bring Akron into the national spotlight. We will be able to grab the top coaching talent in the nation due to this departure. Looks like we've got a loaded team, so we should be in good shape for a while. Thanks Coach! You will be missed!
  19. Obviously I'm going. We'll be bringing about 3 times as many people as went to the MACC game. This is going to be awesome!
  20. That would be a HUGE coup! The odds are against us though. I think the only reason he is taking a look at us is because he would be almost a guaranteed star with the Zips. At the big schools, there will be a lot more competition. He also must be impressed with what the Zips are currently doing and with JD. Of course, he might want to just be close to home. It would be great if he was a Zip!
  21. Congrats Zips. The awards keep rolling in! They deserve it, what an amazing season! How does UA have 2 First Team All Americans and one on the 2nd team and be the 9th seed? Just makes the screwing by the NCAA on the seeding more obvious. How do they choose All Americans anyway? Also, I would have thought Bush would be a shoe in for an All-American. I thought he was one of the top goalies in the country. Am I wrong? Zips All-Americans
  22. Well, from what I know about RH, which isn't too much, it is a really tough school to get into. I know I couldn't have gotten in there. I think the big advantage with UA engineering is the practicality of the education. Though we might not get the smartest students out of High School, UA seems to attract the gearheads. You know, the ones always tinkering with their cars and ripping apart things. From what I've seen, type of hands on experience is very important when you get into industry. As for the shooting team, I didn't know that was going on over there. Sounds pretty nasty, but I think it will work in UA's advantage. Newt has managed to really pull in some top talent at UA recently and if you couple that with the recent engineering successes, we might be able to steal a few shooters from them.
  23. At the first NIU game this year, my wife and I stopped into the bookstore looking to load up on new Zips gear. I asked the sales girl if they had more merchandise at "Porkey's". I got a "You PERVERT!" look , then my wife explained the Porkey's was indeed an store in the Jar back in the day. As for the prices, just pay it and stop whining about the price. It costs what, $7 to go to a football game, and how many times was the cost of a ticket a can of food? How much did it cost for the students to go to the MACC game? UA is just following the age old American tradition of cashing in on an opportunity.
  24. Yea, when the Rams won the Superbowl a few years back, my uncle pulled out this really old Rams jacket from who knows when and was wearing it around like he was always a Rams fan. I had never seen it before! If we win the Motor City bowl, there will be "Action A's" popping out of everywhere!
  25. Ok guys, what is happening here is that we're a victim (maybe) of our own success. Akron has been in the Cleveland sports news more in the last 3 month than they have in the past 3 years! LeBron leads the Cavs. Charlie is the crowd favorite and leads the Browns. The Soccer Team was ranked 1st in the Nation for a Month, the Football team is MAC Champs and going to a bowl AND the basketball team is a MAC contender! People are starting to pay attention and what better time to throw a wrench into the thing, get some water cooler talk going and sell some papers. The PD is just trying to cash in on the Zips success. We've all seen the new fourms and additional coverage by the ABJ lately. I think we're all pretty confident that JD isn't going anywhere, so IMO, we should see this as a good thing. More talk about the Zips in Cleveland will bring in more fans to see the Zips. We've been whining about more coverage, well, now we're getting it, and it's not all positive.
