Back from the game all. I've got to go to work tomorrow, but need to make a few comments. First, so many Zips stepped up tonight it was amazing. Hixon is a beast, Biggs is a beast, and Luke really turned it up. But, I have to say that Jay Rohr was again, HUGE!!! He made nearly EVERY tackle on kick returns. He got totally screwed by getting only an honorable mention. Kasparek, Kiki, Grant, Kennedy, Jabari,....the list goes on and on. GREAT showing by zip fans. It looked like we had more fans there than NIU, and I've got Pictures to prove it! So, for everyone that was busting our @$$e$ for poor attendance. The Zip students were loud and had a ball!!! Only a few times did I hear the NIU fans the entire game. The Akron fans were backing the team the entire way. Akron showed up, our fans showed up. I can't believe this. I'm out, gotta get up in about 4-1/2 hours. MAC CHAMPS!!

Hey, Sloopy, guess what, OSU has a rifle team too and we've owned them for the past couple years.
-
Yea, you've got to admit I was ready to give Fergie a try mid-season too. But, that's why I'm not a coach. JD gets paid a lot of money for knowing football. He sees these kids everyday of the week and makes the call based on a lot more factors than what we see for 30min a week. Lets hope Luke has the Force today! Go Zips!

There's a lot to consider when spelling out "Go Zips" on the snow covered bleachers. First, you have no idea what it looks like until you're done. Second, the spacing is hard to determine. You can use the uprights holding up the seats, but the spacing of those change as you move down the stands. Third, you need to organize a bunch of people and actually have everyone on the same page. Not a bad way to warm up over halftime though.

I plan on hitting Hockeytown. Don't know what time I'll arrive, but if I have my way, it'll be around 3:00. The Wings are in town and the game starts at 7:30, so I wouldn't be there too late. Hope to see some fellow Zips there.

Nothin to lose? If you win you win the MAC and go to a bowl, if you lose you stay home. News flush......... In case you haven't noticed, everyone but the Zip fans already have us staying at home.

I don't see a button for "I live out of state and will follow the Zips via TV or Internet as I need to bring in a paycheck". Seems to me there are quite a few out of state Zips Fans here. BTW, I put down 1-3 since this is my HOME GAME!!

Honestly, if we weren't playing on Trs and were 6-5, we don't deserve a bowl. Maybe if we beat Amry and BSU I would make that argument, but we didn't. Also, we all know that money talks and bull$#!+ walks so lets just forget about who "Deserves" to go. BZ is right, Toledo go the biggest shaft of all time a few years ago. I think they were the first nationally ranked team not to go to a bowl or something like that. Akron holds it's own destiny more than every right now. Can't sucks, Pitt isn't very good, we've got a brand new campus, and are getting a lot of other attention from the other futbol team to put UA in NE Ohio residents minds. I thought we got reasonable coverage from the Cleveland TV stations after the Turkeyday game. If we can pull out a MACC win and go to a bowl, there are going to be a LOT of people taking notice, including potential recruits. We all know that we're going to be loaded over the next few years and a win in Detroit would go a LONG way in putting us on the map. If we seize this opportunity we can beat down Can't for a long time to come, make a name for ourselves in the Western Penn. recruiting grounds and start pulling in fans from the Metro-Cleveland area. I'm sick of us sitting around and waiting for someone else to help us out. We've got a hell of an opportunity here and we need to suck it up and grab it.

Have you been to Akron recently? Exactly what makes OU so great? If I were going to pick a better looking campus, it's OU hands down. They've got those classic old looking red brick buildings everywhere and the campus is sprawled out. Akron has those classic 1960's yellow brick "could have been a factory" buildings right on top of each other. Don't get me wrong, I am VERY impressed with what has happened at UA in the past few years, but we've got an urban feel and frankly, need to keep improving before I'll put our campus on the same level as OU or Miami. By the time that happens, the entire East side of Downtown will be owned by UA.
-
Apparenlty beating them earlier this year means nothing. Personally, I'd rather be the underdog. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
-
I can't wait to move back near Akron. I miss out on a lot of sports and special offers from UA.
-
Nice win for the Zips. Keep knocking them down one game at a time. We'll keep getting disrespect everywhere we go. Lets feed on that.....or just pretend it's preseason at the Westfield cup!
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again. My vote for MVP goes to Rohr. He's a beast and has been consistent the entire season. I saw in another post somewhere that we had the #1 ranked D in the confrence. If that's true, then how can Rohr only get an Honorable mention. JAY - SHOW THEM ON TRS WHAT YOU THINK OF YOUR HONORABLE MENTION! BLOW NIU UP!
-
AMEN!! Again, we control our own destiny. Just win!
-
Man, is this attendance thing getting old. Enough already.
-
I feel bad for the guy. I hope this is a one time thing, if not, he should get some help.
-
Good luck to the Soccer team tomorrow. We all know you got shafted, so keep that chip on your shoulder and lets see another blowout. And whoever was complaining about weather, how warm will it really be in Conn. tomorrow? Unless they have an indoor field?
-
I've got to throw the Rifle team in there too. Not exactly a spectator sport, and I know I'm a little bias, but I think they deserve to be mentioned!
-
OK, OK. What have we been saying for eternity over here? Build a winning program and the attendance will go up. There we are, we finally broke through, and we're getting ripped on for an attendance number that doesn't even exist. IF the attendance is low at the MACC, I DON'T CARE!! The fact that we made it there is another step in building the future attendance! I hope to see a good crowd, I hope 3000 students show up. We all know what's in the pipeline for the next few years, and to make it to the MACC on a "Rebuilding" year is HUGE Bottom line is we're making the progress needed to turn this program into NE Ohio's team!

I think I got the first 3 tickets! I'm in 108, I think it's row 25, and I know it's seats 1,2,3! See you there!

I must have misread the "Internet" part. Here's my take on the rest of the MAC Schools. Can't: Internet interaction leads me to believe their BB team should have been NCAA Champs the past 5 years. Day to day interaction leads me to believe they don't really care about their sports. Most of the Can't fans I know are "Ohio State" fans. Sounds familiar huh? Buffalo: Internet interacion leads me to believe they are just trying to get things going. They aren't overly boastful about any teams that are good. Example: when their soccer team was ranked and played ours, they didn't say they were going to kill us, they said something to the effect that they thought they were talented to beat us. Day to day interacton leads me to believe they don't really care about their sports. BG: Internet interaction leads me to believe they are realistic about their chances. I know TONS of people from BG and most of them again, don't really follow the sports. Those that do claim their favorite team as Michigan or OSU. I see a trend starting here. Toledo: The ones on the internet are pretty confident in their teams ability. I would too if we dominated the MAC for like the last 20 years. Can't be sour on them for that. They seem to have a realistic viewpoint on the rest of the league too. As for the Toledo grads I know day to day....well, I don't want to keep repeating myself (UofM, OSU) NIU: I don't personally know any NIU grads. The Internet interaction I've had, they seem to also have a realistic expectation of what will happen. There are some AH, but which teams don't have that? Ball State: They seem to be a very optimistic bunch. No real life interaction, just on the internet. Eastern: Eastern fans seem to be pretty level headed too. I know a couple and really haven't had much interaciton in the net. "Their Team" is UofM or MSU. Central: I think central fans are great. There are a lot near where I live and they've always been cool. (UofM, MSU) Western: I only know one person from Western and he's cool. I just hate their fightsong and that line they play EVERY FIRST DOWN! Just to elaborate on OU and Miami more. I know quite a few people from Miami and almost all of them have the superority complex. As for OU, the radio announcers from the past two seasons and Kit-Kat have shaped my view of that school.

Question, do we go to a bowl game no matter what?
Zipsrifle replied to Ryno aka Menace's topic in Akron Zips Football
You'll fit in great in Detroit! They need some buildings demolished before the Superbowl! I don't think we should worry about if we get into a bowl if we lose. Why are we always relying on others to get us to the postseason? Last year we needed Michigan State to win. This year we needed every star in the universe to align (and somehow got it!). It's time we step up and create our destiny! JUST WIN! -
Fan Travel Packages Set for MAC Football Champions
Zipsrifle replied to UAM's topic in Akron Zips Football
I doubt we will outdraw NIU. I'm hoping for a good showing by UA fans. I know it's a Trs. night, but when was the last time the Zips made postseason in Football? If you don't have vacation time, make the trip and then drink a couple Red Bulls for the ride home!!! The pain the next day will be worth it. Fortunately for me, I get to sleep in my own bed after the game!! I've got 5 going right now. -
I totally agree that Biggs was amazing with how he was cutting today. I can't believe we put up 35 points. Nobody could go ANYWHERE! Just slipping and sliding on the snow. I think field position put the 35 points on the board for us today. Because nobody could run anywhere, keeping Can't pinned down really made it easy for us today. Nice job zips. As for the fans, I was amazed to see when I showed up at 8:00 that my normal spot was already taken!!!! REAL diehard fans out there today. GREAT turnout considering the weather conditions the hour prior to kickoff. I was frustrated with everyone leaving early, but I know they had obligations and it was so freaking windy!! I just remember how it was in 2000, great day for football, we beat Can't and Syracuse got the Wagon Wheel. The entire home side was nearly full and everyone gave a great big standing ovation to the team. Not so many people at the end of the game today. I'm really hoping to have a good showing at Ford Field!

Got my tickets already. FINALLY A HOME GAME FOR ME!!!!!! Will the Husky Mobile be there? The Zip Truck will be!
