Can't justify 7 hours on the road tonight to sit in the rain for 3 hours. Got a Test on Friday too. I'll be there Turkey Day! Go Zips!

Akron getting screwed, imagine that. We all knew it was going to happen. Were we even ranked in pre-season? No. We only made it to the #1 slot when everyone else in the country had a loss. We lose in OT to Indiana and the press immediately says we played a soft schedule. We're always the underdog, and I like it that way. The disrespect will make the Zips prepare even harder and give them that much more modivation. Since we were seeded #9, our opponents will get the idea we're not as good as we are. In the end, there is only one way to shut them up, the same way we did it earlier in the season. RUN THE TABLE!!

OK....Great TIE by the Zips! Still MAC Champions!

You know what, I think we've got something. IMO, we really needed something cool to say when we got a first down. MAYBE THIS IS IT! Announcer: And that's another Akron First Down! FANS: Fear....The.... ROOOOOOOOOOOO!!! What do ya think???

Yup! He's right. We need to beat Miami for about 5 straight years before we become their "Rival".
-
Though it would be nice to have a competitive Can't team for a big late season game, I can't complain that they will suck. That means the recruits that Akron and Can't are both fighting for will probably choose Akron. Maybe we just dump Can't as our Rival and pick a new one. Though Miami is the easy choice for Akron fans, I don't think Miami fans consider Akron a rival.....they've owned us. BG and Toledo are both taken. I think OU considers Miami their rival. Buffalo is too far away and so is directional Michigan, etc. Maybe we should start playing Pitt! Another solid recruiting year by JD, and hopefully we'll have a pretty tough team. Maybe, if thing go well for the Zips over the next 5 years or so, we could be the dominant Mid-Major team in the NE Ohio, NW Pennsylvania area! That would be a goldmine!

Z.I.P. Great posts! It's about 11:00 and though I didn't see the game, your posts were an exciting read. Much better than seeing that the Zips won first....and then reading all about it. Great win by the Zips!! FEAR THE ROOOOOOOOOO!!!

I'll be serving Breakfast.....Irish style! I say, between 7500 and 10000. I estimate there are about 8000 hardcore Akron fans. My data is about a year old, but whoever came to the BSU vs. Akron game at the Rubber Bowl last year, in the rain and cold, is gonna make it to this game.

Yea, not much to really look at over there. There is the weekly political rant, the Marshall Bashing, and the flood of useless info about OU.

I know none of you are going to believe this, but here in Michigan I just got done watching a program on Woody Hayes broadcast from the Michigan State TV Station. They had a part in there about the Bo vs. Woody, Michigan vs. OSU rivalry and how it is one of the truely great rivalries in all of sports. That got me thinking about the Akron vs. Can't rivalry. We all know that in past few years, it has really kicked into high gear. The sad part is that I didn't even know Can't was our big rival until like my 2nd year in school. I don't know how it is on compus now, but there wasn't a whole lot of buzz back then. I attribute that to the general lack of excitement with the football program. So, here we are, mid November, and the UA/Can't game is again, the last game of the year. One team really has nothing to play for, and the other is only statistically still in the hunt. The game is two weeks away, and it feels like it will just be a Thanksgiving Novelty this year. Do I really consider Can't a "Rival" to Akron. Unfortunately, they are. The sad part is that no other school in the country would want to identify Can't as a rival. They suck, and nothing exciting has happened to that program.....probably ever. We are, in a similar situation. No MAC Championship games, no Bowls. Sure, the winner gets the Wagon Wheel and some bragging rights, but that's about it. With the Michigan vs. OSU rivalry, they were slugging it out over the Big 10 championship nearly every year. THAT is what made the game huge. The last two early season games were so huge for Akron and Can't because they had MAC Championship implications. Do I hate Can't? Hell yea. We cover the same turf and battle for the same everything. Part of me wants to see them rot at the bottom of the MAC for eternity. The other part of me realizes that that true burning hatred, like I have for Miami, won't really be there until they are good. That will make the end of the year game really mean something. I hope to see a huge turnout at the RB in two weeks. I hope to see the students on both campuses get fired up and the community get fired up. Personally, I don't feel the urgency like I did the past few seasons and don't expect a huge crowd. I hope the game gets moved up again next year. We sold out for the $ this year folks and from this fans perspective, it was a bad move.

IMO, all that crap about having a Masters Mandatory is useless. I know people who have a Masters degree that shouldn't even have a Bachelors. OTOH, I know other people who don't even have a Bachelors degree (but have experience) and are better at their job than people with a Masters. IMO, the degrees simply tell an employer that these people have the intelligence to grasp the necessary concepts and have some background in the subject. I'm in the camp that says, if he doesn't have a Masters, give him the position and let him work towards one.

Anyone else find it ironic that...
Zipsrifle replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Wow cap'n, good point. I don't think it should depend on us winning out and BG beating Miami, that was the motto for this season! We had pleanty of chances to find that gold, but just didn't get it done. Now, someone else will strike it rich. -
I prefer Goodyear tires over just about anything else....Is Frustrating a new type of Chinese tire??? I think I predicted 5-6. What gets me so pissed is that we don't show up for every game. JD had these guys so well prepared early in the season, now, who knows what we're going to get. We have about a snowballs chance in hell at winning the MAC East right now. TWICE this year I had high hopes that we were back in it only to have the team show up for only about 40% of the following games. It's been a rollercoaster ride, I expected to start off slow and end strong. We started off strong and have been sputtering. That's not improvement guys, it's leveling off. Does this mean we'll be sputtering next year too? Nobody outside of Biggs and Rohr are stepping up and we're stuck with Getsy for another year. In the end, I guess I'm most pissed that the momentum we had built through last season is gone. I doubt we'll have the #1 recruiting class again and I don't see many exciting players returning next year. We seemed poised to become the next upper eschelon MAC team, but have blown that opportunity and now sit here with about 8 other MAC teams in this Gigantic MESS! CMU's got a great coach and so does OU. At the beginning of the season we had the upper hand on these schools, but now they've leapfrogged us. Oh, and I'm not going to even talk about the MACC until I've got a house full of Zips fans and a fist full of tickets here in Michigan the night before the game. We've got 2 games left and we'd better worry about those first before we're thinking MACC.

I've got to push this thing over 200!

What a tough loss for the rifle team. They lost to the Buckeyes by 3 points. That is just amazingly close when the there are 4800 possible points. On top of that, Akron shot it's best scores of the season! I don't know what happened to OSU from the Purdue match, but their score went up over 100 points, that's HUGE. The Zips have been pretty steady throughout the season and would be undefeated at this point if they had been able to squeak out just 4 more points in each of their two losses. My condolences to Coach. The Zips actually had enough points to beat OSU, just like Xavier, but again, not all the high scores were on the same team. Look at it this way, Coach basically has a 2nd team that is nearly as good as the first team. No matter how hard he analyzes the scores and tries to get a feel for who's hot, and who's not, it is just nearly impossible to predict which 4 shooters will put up the high scores that day. Oh, yea, there is no such thing as substitutions either. The team came VERY close to the magical 2300 in each discipline, which as I've mentioned before is a good indication that this team is in contention for a spot at the National Championship match. Lets hope this team continues to improve and focuses on "The one shot match". Lets push those comfort levels up a bit! Oh How I Hate OHIO STATE! PRESS RELEASE OSU shoots ahead of Akron Rifle For the second time this season, the Zips rifle team fell victim to a match decision in the “unbelievably close†category. In Olympic rifle, the teams compete for up to 4,800 points. When teams finish within 10 points of each other it is considered very close. Less than 10 points is rare. Three weeks ago the Zips opened the season with a 2 point loss to Xavier University. After falling to the Zips at the Boilermaker Invitational two weeks ago, OSU came to Akron this weekend focused on getting even. When the last target was scored, OSU did get even but only by a mere 3 points, firing a 4579 to Akron’s 4576. Despite the loss, this was the best match of the young Zips season. “We performed well in both disciplines,†states coach Newt Engle, “I am pleased we continue to keep getting better with each match.†However, both the Gold and the Blue Akron squads finished ahead of John Jay College from New York (4095). In smallbore Akron fired the high match of the season thanks to the effort of athletes like Julie DeBrita (580 out of a possible 600) who fired in the 580’s for the second week in a row. DeBrita’s performance included the ever elusive perfect 200 prone and tied the school standing record which she set only one week ago. “Julie has been on fire at practice, and now she is proving herself at the matches,†states coach Engle. Junior Christine Fortunato also fired a perfect 200 prone and teammate Ben Soehnlen fired yet another personal best at 559. Freshman Melissa Lussier continues with her winning ways by leading the Zips with a very nice 579 air rifle. A total of 5 Zips had air rifle scores in the 570’s with Sophomore April Engle (573) and Ben Soehnlen (552), both setting a new personal best marks. Coach Engle states, “We are extremely lucky to have such a wealth of talent.†The Zips combined efforts set a new season high match score (2290). Akron will host the last home match of the semester this coming weekend against The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP). The match will start at 8:30 am at the marksmanship training facility located in Rooms 1 and 7, in Schrank Hall South. Allright folks, I'm outta here. BSU played a better game than we did. They deserved to win. Well, I just hope we can beat Can't, we're not very good. I hope the Rifle team beat the snot out of OSU today.
