  1. Apparently you guys weren't ready for the first game. Seems to me that you blew us off. 48-42 Not blowing us off anymore are ya?!
  2. OU fans piss me off on the BBS because instead of posting things about their school on their website, they post it to everyone in the MAC. I nose around the BBS, but don't post tht often. Unfortunately, everytime I log on I have to see how the OU winter outdoor ping pong team is ranked 3rd in the county, or how their psychology department has purchased a new couch! F that. And to all who said that the OU fans have a superiority complex, I hear that! After beating them last year in Athens, I listened to the post game show on the way home. All I heard was how Akron sucks and OU really was the better team and how a few fumbles were the only reason Akron won. Then, Last week, I pulled in the OU broadcast over the internet. The announcers were still getting in jabs at us even as kicked their butts. I would breakdown the Miami fans attitudes into their sports attitude and their "Other" attitude. They essentially dominate us in sports, so I don't get pissed when they blow us off. We haven't done anything to prove otherwise. On the "Other" front, they seem to have an overall superiority complex over the rest of the MAC schools. I got into it a year or two ago with some Miami fan who was a lawyer, and because Miami graduates Buisnessmen and Lawyers, they are superior. We fired back with some stats about UA and our areas of strength. I think he learned a few things about UA and conceded that Akron isn't a breeding ground for idiots, and we do have well regarded areas of study. It's simply the difference between the rich and the blue collar. They go to school driving a new BMW and we got to school with 15 year old POS with the rear side window replaced by Duct tape. Of course they will think they are better.
  3. 8:00 hopefully. Though I am still in Michigan and it's 7:00!
  4. Yea, this the most meaningful game. But it's as meaningful as the Miami game last year with the MAC East on the line. What about the 2000 Marshall game? The difference is, we SHOULD easily take this game! Do we deserve to win the MAC East, honestly, no. We are too inconsistent. After watching the BG/UT game last night, I'm convinced that Akron (when we decide to play) is near the same level as those two teams. We showed up for one game and didn't for the other. Hopefully the gods of football will allow us to sneak in through the backdoor tomorrow! We got screwed last year, so I'm going to ignore any Miami/BG fans that are whining about how we got in. The most important thing is that we need to do is beat Can't tomorrow. And with the opportunity we've been given, I'm going to be pissed if we don't blow their doors off. Can't has NOTHING to play for and we've got the winning lotto card sitting on the ground in front of us. All we need to do is pick it up and cash in!!!!!
  5. Nice message to the rest of the Tourney. Sure, we're the #9 seed, but you all know who's #1.
  6. I would have to go with Miami. Almost every Miami fan that has posted here has been an @$$. I guess I don't consider any of the regular posters an @$$. If it weren't for them, then this board would really be dead, besides, they usually back it up with reasonable points.
  7. Biggs will need to rush for 200 tomorrow!
  8. '73!!! MAN, you're OLD!! All I know is that the mens room on the Home side usually had the heater set to about 115F, so I'll be stopping in there from time to time. This is going to be AWESOME!!! See you there!
  9. I can't believe that everyone is talking about our bowl game when we haven't even beaten Can't yet. Tomorrow is going to be a nasty day and may be to our advantage or to our disadvantage. Lets get the Can't game out of the way. That is the only thing we can control. Lets pound Can't and move on from there!!! I'll See everyone tomorrow morning, I'll be at the RB around 8:00 with 6 other Diehard Zip fans!!!!! Dress warm! This is going to be AWESOME!!!!!!!!
  10. WHAT A GAME! I'm totally blown away, I though the powers that be would ensure Jacobs would get a free pass to the post season. IF THIS DOESN'T GET THE ZIPS TOTALLY FIRED UP FOR THURSDAY, THEN WE DON'T DESERVE TO BE DI-A! GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!
  11. From now on,it should be. For a team that has trouble putting butts in seats, how can a game that has generated more excitement than I've seen in 11 years following Akron and nearly sold out for two straight years (when it was the first game of the year) NOT be an option????
  12. This old Rifle Alum appreciates the beating the Zips put on Morehead. Who's laughing now! It appears the team is still bunched up as Gold and Blue teams shot very similar scores. The scores were a little lower than usual, but a win is a win. Great Job team! Next up is Rose Hulman. They are ususally pretty tough, so I hope the Zips bring their "A" game. Their coach has built quite a program as well. Also, Hats off to Christine, I can't remember the last time a Zip has shot a perfect target in Air Rifle. That is really an accomplishment! Shoot the ONE SHOT MATCH. PRESS RELEASE Date: November 19, 2005 Location: Morehead State University in Morehead KY Event: Akron -vs- Morehead State University Another win for Akron Rifle Even though the Zips sharpshooters were a little off the mark by firing a somewhat low team score, the Morehead Eagles did not take advantage of the opportunity to pull ahead of the Zips. The Zips ended up having both the Gold team (4537) and the Blue team (4519) finish ahead of the Eagles (4505). Putting it all together at one time, Junior Laura Kuntz not only lead the zips squad in smallbore rifle, but won high match honors with a 579 out of a possible 600. This is a new personal best in smallbore for Kuntz. Teammates Julie Debrita (576), Megan Reinking (574) and Micheal Tokarz (571) also finished strong with Tokarz setting his new personal best at this match. With the air rifle team score at a season low, several zips still managed to shine. Junior Christine Fortunato (574) finished second overall in the match, just one point behind Morehead’s Jay Noe. This ties Fortunato’s personal best performance and included a perfect 100 on one of the six, ten shot cards. Also setting new personal best scores at this match, Ben Soehnlen (559) nearly broke the 560 barrier, and teammate Cody Shields(552) is catching up. The last match of the semester will take place after the Thanks Giving holiday on December 3 at the home of the “Fighting Engineers†of Rose Hulman Institute of Technlolgy in Terre Haute Indiana. 13. F TV man, you need to be there to see a @$$beating! I'll break this up throughout the week. Talking point #1: Yes this was "Supposed" to be a rebuilding year, and IMO, it was. We either played like All Stars or didn't showup. Had we brought our "A" game everytime, there wouldn't be any doubt as to if we were going to be at Ford Field on Dec. 1st. I think there was a LOT of learning that went on this year. To come out of this season with a trip to Detroit means we really have lady luck smiling on us. That is something we haven't had in the past. I'll be sad to see Biggs and Rohr go, but excited to see what that stellar recuriting class produces. Some great things got started this season too, like a Student section! AK-Rowdies are growing fast too! So, do ya think Cribbs and Frye will be at the game on Trs? They both put in good performances today. Can you believe I get 1100 AM in Flint! Oh, Yea....
  14. In the two years JD has been here, Akron has been in contention for the MACC going into the last game and we pull in the #2 recruiting class. I'm still onboard.
  15. I'm very sorry that it has taken me nearly a week to post this. It's been a busy week for me, but that really isn't a good excuse. I think that it is truly amazing that Newt has been able to put together such a successful program. It has been a lot of hard work by him and others and this team deserves all the attention it can get. I know the pieces are there to make it to the National Championship match, they just need to fall into place. Well, UA Rifle soundly defeated University of Sciences in Philadelphia this past weekend. It appears that there are finally 4 shooters pulling away from the peloton in smallbore. I'm sure it makes Newt's job easier to pick teams, but IMO, a lot of intrateam competition is a good thing. The Akron "Gold" SB team came as close as you can and not make it to that elusive 2300 threshold with a 2299. In Air Rifle, the team is still bunched around the same score. Stephanie Elmore shot an outstanding 582, and helped the Akron "Blue" team top the "Gold" team again. In the end, it all added up to a buttkicking of USP as UA "Gold" beat USP by 241 points and "Blue" beat them by 225 points. Great job Zips. Next up is Morehead state. For those of you who've followed my rifle rant for a while, I really despise Morehead. It all dates back to a time when one of my team members was at the National Matches at Camp Perry. A shooter from Morehead laughed at her when she said she shot for Akron. We were laughing later in the year when we handed it to them! So, Rifle team, PLEASE take down Morehead tomorrow for an old-alum! PRESS RELEASE Date: November 12, 2005 Location: The University of Akron Event: Akron -vs- The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia USP falls to Akron Rifle This weekend the Zips hosted a rifle match against The University of The Sciences in Philadelphia. Akron chalked up another win by finishing ahead of USP 4580 to 4339. The Zips who have been lagging a little in smallbore really turned it on for this match. Freshman hot shot Melissa Lussier lead the charge with a 579 out of 600 including another perfect 200 prone. This gave Melissa match winner honors only one slim point ahead of USP Michelle Bauer (578). Teammate and co-captain Megan Reinking rose to the top of the smallbore list with an impressive score of 575. And the rest of the team equally knuckled down and pushed out some very nice scores. Even though the air team score fell off slightly, some individual efforts need to be recognized. Sophomore Stephanie Elmore came out of nowhere and won high match honors by posting a 582 out of a possible 600. This score ties Elmore’s personal best and eked her 2 points ahead of USP Michelle Bauer (580). The rest of the team performed well, but just a point or two off their averages. And at the national level this team is performing, those couple of points are needed to stay on top. What is needed now is for the team to start producing “A†game performances with both rifle’s at the same time. Little doubt this will be the goal for the next couple of matches. “This is still one of our high matches of the season, but my athletes and I both know what we need to do.†states coach Newt Engle, “I believe every one of these athletes have what it takes to take us all the way.†This coming weekend, Akron rifle will test their skills for the 5th weekend in a row. This match will be on the road at Morehead State University in Kentucky. Morehead is a member of the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference (WIRC) and is posting scores near the same level as Akron. This match may set the trend for the remainder of the WIRC season which will conclude in February 06. The match will start at 9:00 am at the Morehead shooting range located on campus in the Button Building. 16. We've heard from "Very Reliable Sources" in the distant past about stadium announcements.......and we're still waiting. I'll believe it when there is a leak to the press (otherwise known at UA as an official press confrence).
  17. OK, I see that this is very confusing. What has me totally amazed is that ESPN or someone in the press hasn't picked up on the complete and total disaster the MAC is this year. You know that the press would be able to get the ear of someone in the MAC office to set this entire thing straight. It would make GREAT conversation for all the sports nuts, even if it is only the MAC. In the end, this season is ending very similar to last season. A must win final game for Akron to Make the MACC (though last year was more cut and dry). Though I admit we didn't have a stellar year, it still says something that we are still in the race. Also, Akron is again depending on someone else to win a game for us to get to the post season. I wouldn't be suprised if we get screwed again this year. The media will want BG to win the MAC East because of Omar (he is a truly outstanding player). I guess after what happened in Hawaii last year and what happend to the Akron Soccer team seeding this year, I'm convinced that it where your team ends up isn't 100% dependent on how you perform on the field. Here's my prediction: Akron Blows out Can't. BG beats Toledo w/ a little help from the ref's. We all turn our attention to soccer/basketball/rifle So telling that this year's motto is exactly what will keep us out of the hunt. THREE MORE FEET!
  18. WE WIN!!!!!!!!! To everyone who went to the game, way to represent! See everyone on Turkey DAY!
  19. Sounds like Solich is putting in his backups. Also sounds like the D has some blood lust going and is just blowing through the OU line. 3 min left. Finish it off in Style Zips!!!
  20. ANOTHER BLOWN TD. DAMN, it could be 38-3 right now! Sounds like a bunch of backups are going in now. Radio said McDaniel almost got his 1st TD before he fumbled.
  21. BG up 20-0 on MU in the 2nd quarter! Go OMAR!!
  22. Holy Crap, Ringer got a carry. I thought that guy was going to be Awesome 3 years ago. He went nowhere. I hope he going to get his degree!
  23. WTF, it's just starting to rain in Akron NOW!?! It rained every minute of the day today here in Michigan, literally. Believe me, if I lived closer to Akron, I would be there tonight. The drive, the weather, the test kept me at home tonight. I feel like a fish out of water right now.
  24. Had to settle for a fieldgoal....DAMN! Wouldn't it be nice to be up 31-3 right now or what!? I can't forget about NIU, so we will NEVER be up enough! Keep it up D. Keep rolling up the yards Biggs! Keep chewing up the clock O. Seems like Getsy is having a pretty good night, 22-32 w/ 270 yards right now. Man, does this team have a split personality or what!
  25. Taking a study break and WOW, the zips are up 24-3 late in the 3rd. Way to go Zips. I'm looking at Gamecast so I'm missing a TON of details. LETS GET THE WIN!!!!
